I want to be excited about this, but recent history has me skeptical of Nobles plans. I’m a 100% backer of David Warby. He and his father don’t spend half their time making promotional videos asking for help/money.
Richard Noble was brilliant in his time with Thrust 2 and Thrust SSC. With Bloodhound he spent too much time faffing around with so many side projects linked with it and in my opinion took his eye off the ball in beating the Thrust SSC record... He's now 76 years old, long past the age to manage a project the size of the world water speed record (if that's what this is). He needs to retire gracefully in my opinion and remines on all his glories and discreetly forget his failures. Read his latest book, he's had a few of them that were not in the public eye... Irrespective of everything, he still is a brilliantly inspirational man... Now Richard, go and pop your slippers on and go and sit down to watch the Monaco grand prix there's a good chap.
Better to finish Bloodhound first. I know Richard Noble has little or no role in that any more, but any attempt on a different record will potentially compete for funding with Bloodhound.
There have been 2 official attempts to break Warby's record. Both resulted in the death of the driver Lee Taylor (1980) - held the world record from 1967-1977 (285 mph) Craig Arfons (1989) - son/nephew of Walt/Art Arfons, who traded landspeed records in the 1960s
To be honest with the contributions i made to bloodhound this feels like a bit of a slap to the face . I’d much rather he made an agreement with the current owner and used his time to find the funding to get THAT project to completion .

@@Jaggerbush I wish I could contribute to the engineering ! It’s owned by a man that owns a company that reconditions turbochargers . He doesn’t have the money though .
Sounds like a building company I have an idea lets build houses and to obtain planning we will throw in a school and doctors surgery Lets build a boat and go for the record to gain finance we will include perhaps a university and schools Hang on we have done that with a big long car and I am not sure where that is???

does this mean what I think it does? Even with Mr Noble's incredible talent of finding money to spend on his projects, he's going to struggle. But I REALLY want to be proved wrong!

Imagine accidentally floating an air biscuit to yourself while traveling over a mile every six seconds in that small enclosed space. There's no sticking your head out the window like that pet detective.
Bloodhound was torpedoed by a change in government funding policy, leading to the withdrawal of funding from a major backer. The project went into administration and was sold. The project continued testing the car up until Covid halted things, and I believe the current owners are now looking for a buyer. The car is currently (Aug 2023) on show at Coventry Transport Museum alongside Thrust2 and ThrustSSC. The ThrustWSH Water Speed project is currently privately funded.
Much rather that the money & time were spent on trying to beat the current record rather than pushing money into a whole new thing..... It's already started so let it continue
Direct drive is limiting. There's only so much power you can put through the tiny contact patches the car has with the ground, not to mention the drive train itself. Also, it's actually now a much tougher challenge. Rocket and/or jet propulsion is _hard_ (we talk about rocket science being the epitome of of difficulty for a reason) and the LSR vehicles that use them face a whole host of challenges that rockets and planes just don't: The full weight of the vehicle must rest on the wheels (plus any additional downforce), and they need to go supersonic in the thickest part of the atmosphere at ground level (unlike air and spacecraft), deal with the shockwave/ground interactions, and rocks and dust being flicked up at supersonic speeds. Then there's slowing down. You can't just switch off the engines; the drag-induced g-forces at those speeds is like hitting a wall, and would severely injure or kill the driver and could destroy the car. They have to throttle down gradually before deploying airbrakes, chutes once subsonic, and eventually conventional wheel brakes to come to a complete stop. And all of this has to work perfectly or someone dies. (RIP Jessi Combs)
