As much as I’ve heard complaints about TM, it’s a great way to start sim racing. My first wheel was the T150, then load cell pedals. I then moved up to the T300 which I’ve been very happy with. I’ve patiently waited for TM to put out a competitively priced DD wheel, and not only have they done it, they made it PlayStation compatible . This is a great deal with it including pedals, I was thinking of waiting until they sold the wheel separately, but couldn’t help myself and pre-ordered. Yours is the first and only hands on review that I’ve seen, so thanks for that. Your review was fair and well done.
@@KarcusKorpse I'm definitely waiting for the base. Wonder what the price will be.. I have the T-GT2 right now so I kinda don't want to buy the whole package cause everything I have hardware wise is better than what comes in the package aside from the base itself. I'd just throw the pedals and the wheel in a closet and never touch it again, that's such a waste. With the price of the full package I would expect the base itself to be 350 bucks or so. If that's the case, Thrustmaster is going to sell unbelievable amounts of this thing. The T818 was priced out of some people's comfort zone, and no console compatibility made it a non starter for a LOT of people, me included (Love GT7 in VR. It's the best.) I bought my rig 2 years ago and I've been waiting for a DD wheel ever since. I want it so much.... The T-GT2 is great and all, but it's no DD base.
@@JimmyNuisance hi yes i was just saying i only need the wheel hub base as i already have load cell pedals and 3 x different wheels from thrustmaster its certainly going to be interesting to see how much they will drop the price of the tgt 11 wheel ? i mean no ones going to but that at £699.00 when they are selling the new DAD wheel for £450.00 ??? are they they are going to have to drop it down to around the £300 mark ?? I have a tgt wheel had it since launch in 2017 never once had any issues with it if the tgt 2 drops massively i wud even contemplate buying as a back up to the DAD wheel lol
@@JimmyNuisance I bit the bullet. Preordered to arrive on the launch date. I realized it won't be in stores yet. I have an extra wheel stand so I'll pass my old base and the new pedals to a family member. Sticking with the TM eco system for now since I never experienced hardware issues. I'm excited for the "jolt" feature to go with the TM sequential shifter.
If the wheelbase doesnt start throwing screws at the user and immolate itself to absolute death over the mere act of steering, I guess it is fine. Sadly, I bought the TS-PC 488 Edition for 900 CAD and sold it for 100 CAD after just 1 year, but actually had problems as early as 4 months. I let you take a guess at the kind of problems I ran into.
I've had two TM products in a row and have spent maybe 5 years between them at 15 hours/week or more. Their products are extremely reliable considering the price. I'm def a fan.
An incredible review by someone whose opinion I trust. TM should be paying you commission because I'm pre ordering this wheel, based on this honest review.
Most of the comments are coming from people equipped with much better set ups at higher price points who come and complain about few things...like they need to justify why they paid more! but the most important is the base. It seens to be à great value for the buck on ps5 before xmas 😊
@@DaBaker21 I think that's just GT7 thing; after patch X my old CSL Elite started to shake like this... From my understanding it's the same for all wheels.
You have to love TM for keeping their head in the game by continuing to bring us innovative and reasonably priced sim gear. Great video with concise info.
As for any of your videos, this was very well done! I’ve been waiting for something like this from thrustmaster as I play both on pc and PS5. My 6 years old T300 is still working great but I think I’ll be due for an upgrade soon. I also have the Ferrari 488 gt3 wheel and the TCLM load cell pedals, so none of the downside of this package will affect me
I’m in the same situation but would rather not spend hard earned cash on a rim and pedal set I just won’t use. Think I’ll wait until they release the base as a stand alone product hopefully for £££’s less
@@Cshadders you could sell the t300 with the pedals that come with the t598 given they are compatible. This way you’ll get back some of the money you spend. Last year I sold a t300 that belonged to a friend of mine on eBay for about $250
Awesome review! I know there's a lot of us that having been waiting for a detailed review and you did not disappoint! I will be upgrading from a G923 this holiday season.
Great review. Very comprehensive. Based on this review I have pre-ordered the wheel and subscribed to your channel. As a GT7 weekend player this makes sense to me although the aesthetics are very challenging for me but nothing a upgrade in wheel can't sort out. Thank you.
They nailed the price. Not sure if I should wait for base only release or not. How long did you play? Was the heat constantly building up or did it stay at the same level after a point ?
Thank you for the video, I’m so exited about this wheel and your review confirms that I should be. I’m 65 years old and only got into sim racing a few months ago after I retired from work and moved to Thailand. I bought a PS5 and a Logitech G29 steering wheel. All I really want to know is if this new wheel will be an improvement and worth buying? Many thanks.
The Logitech G29 is an entry level wheel. TM T300 base for example is already better than your Logitech, its too soon to say but the probably this bundle is TM is releasing is a big step forward. Good luck on your SIM journey
Direct Drive is a massive step up from the G29 for sure. The cogging you feel when you move the wheel (like small steps in the rotation) is not there in DD wheels and the power is more sudden and direct. If you want to upgrade to Thrustmaster, I very much recommend a load-cell brake pedal. That was by far my favorite thing when I moved from my G25 to a Thrustmaster setup. Load cells makes braking FUN. You gotta stomp that foot down real hard, and it lets you be super precise with your braking. Supposedly there will come an add-on load cell pedal for the pedal base that comes with this package. That way you'll have what used to be the brake become a clutch if you need it, and the load cell replaces the brake. Load cells kinda require you to have a chair that's solidly fitted to the seat in some way, cause you'll just kick yourself away from the desk if you have an office chair + desk setup or similar.
hi im 62 yrs old i had a g29 then upgraded to a thrustmaster TGT Wheel and their load cell pedals the difference was massive so much more realistic i also changed the standard tgt wheel with a larger diameter 33cm sparco rally wheel and with these three upgrades made it so more realistic and immersive so god knows how much better their new DAD Wheel is going to be ? but i can honestly say with those three upgrades i made i smashed all my personal best stage times in wrc rally game !! welcome to the world of sim racing my friend
Great review 👍 really well made and edited. So assuming the base alone will release for under £400.. someone who has tlcms, evo and sf1000 rim.. is it an upgrade to the tgtii? I'm guessing not much in feedback but possibly more consistently?!?!
Nice Review. I appreciate it. I have mine on Pre order. They will be shipping on the 19th. I have a CSL DD for Xbox with upgraded pedals.8mn. This intrigued me though. For the price point, it looks like a good way to try something a little different. I really dislike the cogging on the Fanatec CSL DD. Although I like Fanatec, that was a bit annoying. Thanks again!
I’ve been running a G29 since 2018 so have been looking into DD but they were just so expensive. This I think will be perfect for me on my PS5 where I play ACC and a bit of rally can’t wait for release in Australia
My thought for the perfect way of using the overshoot, is to get it to use it when load is progressing through corners. That way the wheel will feel much stronger than it actually is on regular use.
Nice review. The bit that worries me is how he described it feeling hot and overworking. I wonder what effect that will have in a year’s time when the warranty runs out. Apart from that I’m very interested.
Traxxion made a hands-on video when the base was still in the camouflage box, and he drove a rally track in GT7. So you will have partly your answer there, although no Dirt2.0 or EA WRC of course
Looks like it will find it's place in the market .I m on a Logitech Gpro and it's perfect but have to say my old TGTII with[ tclm pedals]was great and about 6.8 nm with really good feedback and extra feeling similar to trueforce.
@ldplays9431 Honestly Gpro is as near to perfect as I could want in a wheel and to me it's worth every penny .I used to love my TM but there QR is a flaw ,fanatic is nt great either but Gpro is rock solid and very satisfying to put on and take off .Not to mention Trueforce which adds an extra dimension p s I get trueforce in my feet too ,it sends it thru cockpit to the pedal set somehow. You have to try it to believe it .
@@Dave062YT Wow that does sound amazing. True force in the feet with the load cell pedal sounds incredible too. Strongly leaning towards the G Pro now. Appreciate you taking the time to share man 👍
I've got a T-GT so this isn't quite enough of an upgrade to tempt me just yet (unless a PC-only, base-only option comes out very cheap), but it is very promising for a later T818 successor - if they can bring out a cost-competitive ~10Nm model off this technology I'm definitely onboard
I’m so tempted by this, I currently have a T-GT2 and I love it and I’m contemplating taking the leap into DD and this is perfect budget wise, in your opinion would this be much better then the T-GT2 ?? Plus I love the transducer on the tgt2 does this have similar effects?? Great review by the way 👌
Coming from a TS-PC user, which also has higher torque than a 5nm DD, I can tell you, its a difference. I tried a CSL DD and Moza R5, yes the torque value is lower, but the feeling is totally different. Its much snappier and you get loads more feedback through the wheel. I would say, this is a good wheel to start getting into Direct Drive. Especially if you're already deep into the Thrustmaster ecosystem.
It seems like a good option for the price and probably the best option for the price. But TM definitely ripped of Logitech's Trueforce with this "New" tech. I personally own the new Logitech G Pro DD11 and it's the most impressive wheel I've owned so far and that includes my original Simucube and Podium DD1. The base is crazy quiet , the Trueforce is a game changer & the overall fidelity and smoothness of the wheel is awesome. The Pedals are also incredible and has one of the best Load cell brakes I've used. But you're also paying quite a bit more for the G Pro but it's absolutely worth it in my opinion.
On lack of detail for kerbs in GT7. I'm on PS5 with a G29 and GT7 to me feels numb. You get pressure but very little else. When I was on PS4 I got Project Cars 2 and was amazed at the details even the lowly G29 could produce in that game on a PS4. Road surfaces were alive, kerbs felt real and you knew when you lost traction. Very different to GT Sport at the time and GT7 on PS5 now. To me PD with GT7 is short changing players with the detail in the FFB. It's just enough to say there is FFB, but nowhere near what the wheels are capable of. I find myself playing ACC and even PS4 versions of PCars2, PCars1 and original Assetto Corsa more often than PS5 GT7 as their driving experience feels better. Would love if TraxionGG did a comparison of FFB quality in a few different games on console with different hardware to see what the comparison throws up. Where possible, same track, same car, multiple games. Could be as simple as play session for the team with opinions, no fancy measuring equipment needed.
@@ahicracing884 Yes I agree 100% I was hoping for a comparison with ACC, hopefully we won’t have to wait long for the comparison. Saying that I’ve pre ordered the T598.. and I’m looking forward to using it.
@@taco8680 I’ve tried all the sensitive setting and it helps but compared to other driving games on PS4/PS5 the detail for same car same track is far less. If you’ve got it take any GT3 out on track at Monza in Project Cars 2 and drive like you’d drive in GT7 and see what the experience is. To be clear I love GT7 for what it is. For me a great way to get online races on demand. (Simgrid Seasons for ACC on PS5 works but is a bit more effort). A while back I went to a sim racing centre called VRROOM in Brighton. They use Assetto Corsa on PC and recommended the Toyota GT-One at Le Mans. I loved it. Was delighted to find the car and track are in GT7 (PS5) so played it and I didn’t get the same excitement. Booted up Project Cars 2 (PS4 game) with the same combo and it felt amazing. I’ve done loads of laps with this combo now because it feels great. Yes, GT7 looks and sounds better but PCars2 with its FFB on G29 just feels so much better.
Hello I’ve got the TGT ll, and I was looking for a dd from fanatec until I saw this one DAD 😅. Do you think it’s a good upgrade for my TGT ll? Thank you.
I think this is a great move! I almost guarantee without even touching it that it will have among the best ffb quality on the market. I'll be sticking to my Simagic Alpha.. But I think TM truly are among the best at implementing new tech into sim racing
So is this the perfect way to get into DD world? I mostly play EA WRC and GT7 (and I can't wait for AC Evo). I had to return the Logitech G923 because it was incredibly loud and slow feeling, at the end it didn't feel like I gained much over the ps5's dualsense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
One question to the settings of those PS5 comaptible wheels in general, will the settings via the PC software affect in any way the wheel when used with a PS5 or is that a completely different thing? I am asking because in GT7 you can not really adjust the steering angle. With the old Thrustmaster T300RS you had to press a button combination for setting up the steerings angle but you have to do it before every race in GT7 because it resets it all the time. Is there a button for that on the new T598?
@@jackkanoff6491 the curb feedback in gt7 is weird, it's not part of the "force feedback" but more of a vibration signal(you can feel it with the PS5 controller), the Logitech wheel with trueforce like g923 and g pro is the only two wheel base that does it right AFAIK
500€ for the entire kit that you need to get you started is a pretty good price, especially seeing how the wheelbase is a DD + the access to all the 1st party parts later on
I will be buying this when a.c. evo releases. Ive been waiting for something like this! Was hoping for a moza r3 playstation version, but i do like thrustmaster
Tbh, GT7 is not a good benchmark for testing a wheel's FFB. It's a game meant to be a system seller, the FFB is designed to make console players feel good while driving by giving them just enough feedback without annoying them
Firstly, this is probably the best review on this wheel i've seen so far, so thanks for all the info. Secondly, i have the TS-XW Racer with the T-LCM pedals, with a range of different wheels. Now, while im only a casual sim racer, I've not seen the point in spending a lot for something im not using every day, so would this be a great upgrade for the current wheel? And it's rumoured that a base only unit is being released later on. Would it be best to wait for that version if the wheel attachment and pedals that come with this base are quite low budget in comparison?
@josephlauer8980 Both the casual racing gamer and frogboyxgaming have done reviews of the specs, etc, but neither have had an actual physical item to review, this is the only one in that has the actual wheel, the others have been more review the specs, and I saw it at a convention type reviews.
@@kuzeykb Fanatec will give you a more professional simulator feeling, heavier more realistic steering wheels that will give you a solid turn like a real car, the Thrustmaster one looks not bad but extremely light. When everyone is yapping on the plastic, it's not an issue to use it in a direct drive, it is solid but it is light maybe to light so light it will give you the ''toy'' feeling. Still interesting engine idea used from YASA's flux engine.
@@kuzeykb as the included ''sportscar steering wheel'' is one of their lightest wheels probably ever made, an add on on that base would be always welcome.
Great review! But why only testing this base with GT7 on console? Why not Assetto corsa OG or Project cars 2, F1. I mean the whole intention of this base is to attract console users more than PC users which they already have the badass T818. Just saying this because I don’t find GT7 has the best FFB settings and feel when driving compared to other titles on console. Maybe you will do more reviews about it but I guess something to keep in mind. You probably didn’t have enough time to play around with this base all the way. Thanks and good review anyway!
Surprised that this doesn't seem to be front/rear mountable. Would have expected that to be a specialty of this form factor. Maybe in another review someone takes a look at that.
Great video by the way , what do you think this wheel would be like on Ea wrc 2024 ? or dirt rally 2.0 ? would it be much better than the first TGT wheel ??
@@tb6539 i have a t818, from what i gather from this review is that the main difference is going to be strength between this and the t818. i also had a ts-PC recently which afaik uses the same motor as the t-GT. The difference in reaction speed, smoothness and detail for rally and drifting is massive between a DD and a top end belt drive wheel, even if i set the t818 to 40% strength it feels so much better.
@@givemeajackson hi thanks for your reply good to hear that a dd wheel is so much better than a belt driven wheel i will wait untill they sell just the wheel hub of the t598 as i already have wheels and their load cell pedals goin to be interesting as to the price they will be asking for the stand alone wheel hub ? also their tgt 11 wheel is still at £699.00 no one is goin to pay that price for their belt driven wheel when they will be able to buy their new DAD Wheel at £450.00 !! so they really will have to drop the price on the tgt 2 down to the £300 mark dont you think ??
@@tb6539 i think they'll discontinue everything above the t248, anyone who still has stock will have to sell them for peanuts. tbh ever since the moza r5 bundle the t-gt2 has been pretty pointless unless you really needed PS compatibility. i expect 300-350 for the wheelbase only
@@givemeajackson yes i think your quite right there, with this new tech of direct axial drive and how good it is for the price all the rest will surely become extinct !!
I can live with the wheel, have 3 others to change it with. I can toss the pedals since I have the load cell already. The height is what I don't know if I can live with. With a T300 I'm already only about 2 inches from my knee, looks like I would have to drop it about 3 inches and raise my screen to compensate. Release the 818 with PS compatibility please!
Thx for the review! I think TM should sell the base without the pedal too... I've got a T248 and change a 3 pedal base for e 2 pedal with same technology is a little bit unfair... like spend maybe 100€ more for a pedal set i would not need... They should do a 279€ only base or 379€ base + wheel bundle.
Im gonna bite the bullet, i made the dumb mistake of thinking thr tss handbrake would be compatible with my t150 (i have the tlcm pedala and th8a shifter, so I assumed the handbrake would work too! NOPE lol) So this will be a perfect upgrade to that old (6+ yrs) wheel (i only paid 50$ new for it, a pricing error lol) but its time. Ive got a sim rig too so this will fit nicely once it realeses. 😅 Great reveiw by the way !
If your budget is sub $500 then yes. But if money is not as important as performance then you want the new Logitech G Pro DD11 and G Pro Pedals. Trust me.
It seems decent, but I've been really wanting the new logitech G pro wheel . Witch is alot more expensive, so not really a comparison, but if I had nothing and wanted to start sim racing, this could be a great option .
This is basically a cheaper less powerful version of the G Pro. They basically took the Trueforce and made e their own version. In my opinion the G Pro DD11 is the best wheel you can buy for the price. I honestly 100% prefer it over some that are double the price. It's the best feeling and most detailed wheel I've owned.
The product description from TM sounds like there will: "...The pedal set can be upgraded with a third Load Cell pedal thanks to Raceline Pedals Upgrade Kit (sold separately, available soon)...."
I've read people complaining about plastic and who cares like really, if you want to buy it then buy it don't worry about what others say you can do what you want and enjoy what you want they're not there playing it with you holding the wheel with you 😂 don't worry about it just buy it
Hy,. I just have 1 question. I now have T300 with SF1000 add on, and playing F124. My question..Will be better this bundle ,than my current because I feel in every online-offline race that I lose feedback and I can drive with one hand....Is it game? Than in GT7 is perfect...Will my driving skills based in race in karting be feeled with this bundle?
The T300 is very good but has overheating issues, so you can try using the "always on" setting for the fan or lower the overall feedback or dampening, but a D(A)D base won't have these problems
many things to address here: 1. F124 doesn't really have great FFB so it has a lower ceiling up to where you can get improvements with better hardware. 2. You need to pinpoint where your issue is coming from, maybe it's your USB connection, internet connection or something else. It will only be fixed if the base is the problem. 3. GT7, as mentioned in the video, is also a mixed bag in relation to FFB. 4. Driving karts is a very different experience from most cars, of course there are some skills that are translatable, but don't expect to feel the exact same things that you do in a kart.
Do you have your t300 in fan always on mode, l have used a t300 for a year on gt7 and wrc for more hours than l would like to admit with fan always on l haven't experienced any ffb fade
