As someone who used the TMX pro for a few years as my entry wheel, I can definitly recommend buying it as a first wheel. You get a lot for the money. after a few years of regular use, you may find that the shifter pedals will start to break. The T3PA pedals are pretty decent but I'd always recommend upgrading to the new T-LCM pedal set instead because even with the brake mod, it's nothing compared to a proper loadcell brake. I did use a G920 wheel by logitech for a short time before getting the TMX wheel and I'd say if you choose between the two, the TMX pro is the way to go. a few months back I decided to upgrade to the fanatec ecosystem and I don't regret it but TMX pro is a great point to start at to get a feel for whether you want to invest more money in the future!

Thanks, this is so useful. I have been wanting to get into sim racing for a while now and you helped me make a choice on what to get. This is such useful feedback and I couldn’t thank you more. Update: figured out I have to go with normal TMX because I can’t afford the pro because I’m a kid (don’t ask why I am into sim racing while being a kid). Luckily, I’m good at dealing with what I got and I’ll still have fun even without a clutch. I’ll figure out how to drift without it.
@marcusberggren9241
@marcusberggren9241 3 года назад
@@footßall if you're going normal TMX I think that's fine if you can't afford the pro version but the plastic pedals are going to annoy the heck outta you. Maybe it's worth waiting and saving a little extra for the pro version to get the T3PA pedals? :) otherwise you could do an upgrade path something like this: Thrustmaster TMX -> Save money to eventually get the T-LCM pedals -> Upgrade to for example either a TS-PC Racer and a wheel addon of your choosing :) For me I went a bit sideways at first. I got the Logitech G920, it's a very good wheel but the pedal set is absolute garbage to be ruthlessly honest. i got it used but i managed to resell it 2nd hand again so gained some money back and decided to get the Thrustmaster TMX Pro. Bought it from the store. I invested in the TH8A Shifter as well so i went all into Thrustmaster eco-system. Sad thing with TMX is that the wheel is not interchangable. Even Fanatec entry level you can interchange the wheel rim if you want to so that was a bummer. for the longest time i was using what i got so to speak cause upgrading from a $300 to a $1000+ setup is daunting. My worst fear with upgrading to Fanatec was that it's soooo much money invested into something. Ultimately, I am happy that I invested in it because I really really enjoy it. TL;DR You have to start somewhere :) and if your starting point is the regular TMX so be it! :) hope you will enjoy your purchase and welcome to the world of sim racing. It's a very expensive hobby but it's nothing compared to the costs of actual track time and the sims these days have become so realistic and it's improving every year.
@footßall

@@marcusberggren9241 Yeah, I was planning to upgrade the pedals later. The fact that they’re plastic and cheap feeling won’t bother me very much but I do want some better quality ones that will last me a long time. I've racked up a total of around 840 hours on my TMX with the T3PA and I love it, for a budget wheel, they are incredible. The FFB still feels very good and hasn't worn out over the 5 years of use. Great video mate. Just upgraded from the TMX to the TS PC racer and I’m so glad I did! It’s so much better and my times have improved as I’m getting so much more feedback (I can feel things i couldn’t with the TMX and I can now catch the car in skids which seemed impossible with the TMX). Also I could never get hang of the pedals so upgraded to some fanatic CSL ones and my times improve again along with my constantly. I had a G920 last year, only kept it for a couple of months, couldn't get on with it. I think mainly due to the pedals, they were kinda either on or off with no real in between which made more delicate inputs like feathering the throttle impossible. This sounds a lot better though!! And no dead zone in the steering is good! I hated that there was about 15 or degrees of nothing in the centre of the G920! Might have to look into getting one of these for the BTCC game coming next year!

Thank you for all the insight on these sim racing peripherals, they've been really helpful! I've never gotten into sim racing before and I just picked up one of these wheels with pedals and a cheap wheel stand for 64 bucks shipped. This will be my first time into driving wheels and didn't want to spend a ton, so found it secondhand. My other option was a DFGT for 40 bucks but I figured the belt/gear hybrid system would be better due to the lack of deadzone and slightly quieter. It only has the basic cheapo 2-pedal set but I'll probably try to do some sort of rubber pad/brake mod for the time being until I can find a cheap set of T3PA's used too. I've seen a number of arduino DIY USB conversions so I'll probably try to find a Logitech Driving Force shifter and convert it to USB since the TH8A is way out of my price range right now.
@SimRacingCorner
@SimRacingCorner 2 года назад
If It's your first time diving into sim racing, you're doing it the right way and finding bargains to keep it cheap. The weakest performance element of the setup is the 2 pedal, pedal set, so definitely you'll want to upgrade the pedals when you can.

TMX (NOT pro) owner here. I have to agree with this review on virtually all points outside of the pedals, since I don't have them, though I really wished I picked them up. The TMX is a good plug-and-play wheel that will work with pretty much any PC/Xbox game I've used. However, as I find myself in the same situation, it is a stepping stone. Pick up the TMX if you feel you might be interested in sim racing. Pick up a better rig if you find you are interested in sim racing after some use. Truly a simple wheel in both operation as well as "should I or should I not" verdict.

The G29/920 force feedback can produce a rattle noise and there is a force feedback centre deadzone. So I do prefer the TMX Pro for this reason. However I would say the Logitech wheels have better build quality and is likely to last longer over the years.

quite refreshing to see a review that points out the flaws as much as the pro's with these entry level wheels. ive been spoilt on sim racing hardware for a while, using direct drive motors for a few years now currently own a simucube 2 pro... i purchased a thrustmaster T150 for my 6 year old just to quite frankly keep him away from my gear which as we know isn't to be messed with by kids and you know... my first impression of the T150 was it is absolutely disgustingly horrible, from the point you take it out of the box it feels like you rescued it from a few years at the bottom of the sea, full of wet sand, i couldn't think of anything worse to play a game with but when i see my kid having fun and not even thinking twice about how it works im reminded what these products are for, they are a fun entry into simulating racing and most of us have to appreciate what these do for our community. We are surely now at a point however where higher end hardware needs to trickle its way down the stack, belts need to be standard entry level bringing with it increased smoothness and immersion and direct drives need to be made affordable, thankfully it is looking like those steps are slowly being made.

The T300 is a nice bump up in strength and ffb detail over the TMX. Another one to consider is a second hand Logitech Driving Force GT. They are usually cheap on eBay and will give you 900 degrees of rotation, and also a decent upgrade over the MOMO. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eqRJ4aSxhx8.html

I would give the G923 the advantage, the wheel rotates smoothly with little friction than the TMX which you'll appreciate for drifting. This also improves the feel and delivery of the force feedback. Overall build quality is also better with the Logitech wheel.

Will it be stable if I mount it to a desk whose front edge isn't 100% parallel to the wall behind the desk (My goal is to mount the wheel so that it's perpendicular to the wall behind the desk.)? I would say it's roughly ten degrees off. It's hard to explain but if I mounted the wheel perpendicular to the table, then the pedals would be at an angle if I press them against the wall, which would be weird. I guess another way to ask this question, do the pedals stick to the ground or do they move? I hope you understand what I mean, lol. Edit: I'm going to use it with VR anyway, so it doesn't matter whether it's right in front of the monitor. If the pedals stick to the ground, then it doesn't have to be set up perpendicular to the wall.

@MR.EVERLOST
@MR.EVERLOST 2 года назад
@@A4DXZ There are minimum 3 things that affect your motor. It is 1. steering wheel weight (in total: rim + buttons + QR + screws), 2. steering wheel diameter and 3. steering wheel offset (how far your rim is from the base). If your wheel is too heavy for your motor it affect ffb. If the offset of the steering wheel is too big, the shaft will be overloaded causing faster damage of the base and of course it will affect ffb. And finally, the larger rim diameter also has a negative effect on the base. Entry level products like Logitech or TM 150/TMX has ~ 2.2Nm power. Next T300/TX has ~ 4Nm. TSPC/TGT/TGT2/TSXW has ~ 6Nm, CSL 2.5 has ~ 7Nm, CSL DD 8Nm (with boost kit), Simagic Alpha mini 10Nm, Simagic Aplha 15Nm, VRS 20Nm. Simply put, more power = more possibilities without losing details. Read about „clipping”. I had TMX and TX and when I was playing on this 3.9Nm base with stock Sparco rim (1.2kg, 32cm diameter and minimum offset) it works quite good but ffb on 28cm Italia wheel feels definetley better. After that I did custom Porsche rim with total weight 1.4kg and than I discovered that I need something stronger because wheel loose detail and responiveness. Probably for 6Nm base it would be fine. Remember that there are people who mount heavy wheels to entry lvl bases and say it's ok. A lot depends on individual preferences, but you can't fool the physics. Especially drifting tires the motor the most.
