I was there during the Gulf War as a civilian employee of Bechtel Corporation. We were constructing the King Fahd International Airport (KFIA) Project in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. This became one of the biggest US military base during the Gulf War. Just days after Iraq invaded Kuwait on Aug. 2, 1990, Bechtel evacuated most of it’s employees, they chartered planes and flew them back to their countries of origin. I was one of the few essential employees Bechtel management asked to stay to operate the essential airport utilities like the Jet Fuel Tank Farm, Apron Jet Fuel Hydrants and Fueling System, Central Plant, Central Water Pumping Station and Sewage Lift Stations. I and my other Bechtel colleagues operated the utilities to provide Jet Fuel to the US Jet planes, air conditioning, potable water to the US Military and Coalition Forces. The airport was just partially completed and not yet commercially operational then. The first C-130 US Air Force plane landed at KFIA on Aug. 15, 1990. There were no operational airport communications systems then, the C-130 landed visually and was guided with a pick up with a Follow Me sign painted on a plywood. to the Terminal Apron. After this first landing the A10 Jet planes from Germany flew in. Military personnel and equipment started to build up. I could still remember the start of the war on Jan. 16, 1991 when the war started. I was in the camp and saw all the war planes taking off, Operation Desert Storm has started. At night we would run to the bomb shelter every time there is a Iraqi Scud Missile attack. I was there side by side sitting with the American soldiers. Proud to have served the US Military during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. I was there during the entire duration of the Gulf War operating the airport utilities to support our US Military.
One thing that the wars in the gulf region showed was that cooperation between allied nations was in fact possible and worked effectively, yes there were problems but nothing insurmountable, and thank goodness they did work together otherwise the whole strategy for western defence would be a mute point. Thanks for sharing this interesting and informative film. Thumbs up 👍.
Boots on the ground wins wars, but the capability to deliver massive air forces are absolutely necessary for the defense of the country. Buy more aircraft! Train more pilots!
DON'T REALLY KNOW WHY but i always loved watching DOCUMENTARIES about back in the day WARS...!!! I REALLY like being able to learn more about our HISTORY OF DOG FIGHTING...!!!

rumor has it that photographers at the airshows who were using auto-focus lenses had such a difficult time focusing on the F-117 for for photos had to result to manual focus…the electronic signals from the cameras & lenses (some USM type) were bouncing off the plane’s facets in all directions except back to the lenses
Tomcat is the navy's best aircraft! What an iconic marvel and not just because of top-gun, but because of its capabilities for the time it was completed.
Yes sir thank you for your service you are a true patriot and hero and your Patriots love you God bless you and your family there are so many who wish they could have served because of age I am physically not able to but thank you sir thank you!!! My brother-in-law was in desert Storm or desert shield I think the first one he was a colonel and was supposed to have done the analysis on the m1 a1 tank and came back and was a colonel that had his own base when they spent the night the phone would ring at all hours and gave it up when the clintons were presidents that's all he said didn't give a reason other than Bill Clinton!!
I was in 9th grade when this happened, and it was awesome warching all of it play put on TV, seeing the US and allied forces completely dominate Saddam's self labeled most powerfull fighting machine and how any type of warfare against him and his military would be a huge mistake, only for us to completely wipe put anyone who stayed to fight while massive amounts of other Iraqi troops surrendered, bussloads at a time. His airforce fleeing to other countries rather than even attempting to fight. This was why in 2003 so many americans thought it would be the same thing all over again against the Taliban, yet here we are nearly 20 years later, still fighting a seemingly endless war. Either way, the 90's was the best time for this type of conflict if you are a fan of military aircraft. From the B-52 all the way up to the F117 and every plane in between played huge roles. No little unmanned drones, rather actual pilots putting all their training and technology on display, allowing the actual ground warfare to he over in just 3 days. It was one time when I was proud to be an American. Great video!
Recommend reading a new book, CALL-SIGN KLUSO (Casemate Publishers, 2021). written by Rick Tollini. Capt. Tollini flew the #1 F-15 in the second aerial engagement at 32 minutes into the video.
you are correct - it even shows in the credits @ 59:38 Peter Thomas (who died on April 30, 2016) was an American announcer and narrator of television programs, including shows such as Nova and Forensic Files.
Thank you IRobot! I know that voice anywhere! God rest his soul! I appreciate your answer, no matter what spunkmier said, he was wrong, thank you again amigo
My Dad Robert King Parsons, also called, “Bobby King Parsons” was the first and one of few who Flew the F-111 for 1000 hours, without failure . I am his second boy Kent Cole Parsons
I'll never forget 'Stormin' Norman's response at the end of operations, when asked about the feasibility of occupying Iraq. He said (and I'll have to paraphrase) " It would have been a nightmare - it would have been a second Vietnam for the United States".
I think it's a given when you say it. If I tell you my wife's on the pill, you don't fly through a huge list. You know which one. Say there's a military incident in the gulf, you know what gulf they're talking about.
@@mtmadigan82 This is a game by Arab states of the Persian Gulf. Nobody calls "Oman sea" the sea or "straight of Hormuz" the straight, have you ever heard somebody instead of gulf of Mexico tells you the gulf? even though this gulf has been infamous for a fuckin thing.
The F-117 was supposed to hit troop barracks in Panama. However the powers that be wanted to use those Barracks for our troops after the invasion. So they dropped the bombs in an empty field hoping people would give up.
I like this video. I had the VHS tape back in the day. However the F/A-18 flew SAM suppression in Prairie Fire and El Dorado Canyon missions over Libya in 1986.
D Mutant - I worked on the ground in both the Prairie Fire AO and somewhat farther north but never saw an F/A-18. Are you sure you were referencing the Vietnam Conflict in that part of your comment? De Oppresso Liber

There is nothing fighter about the F-117. A-10's are great, I live 20 minutes from Selfridge AFB and see these flying around often. I'd hate to have them looking for me.
F-18 is good but I still think the F-14 was better, the computer controlled variable geometry swing wings were absolutely outstanding for air to air combat.
I watched Apache warrior on Netflix. In the end they said they did a roll call and everyone was accounted for but in reality an Apache went down and two were taken POW but later recovered. Not sure why stories varied.
During war in the Persian gulf, not gulf! In that time small Arab countries bribes some medias to call the Persian gulf just gulf then if they had chance replace it with Arabian . They did want to buy identity for themselves which didnt work at the end.
@381mamadou The planet we are living in has seen 2 large scale wars involving Irak. Make sure you know which one he and you are referring to prior to making a fool of yourself.
Did you go to save Kuwaitis, or to save the price of oil ? Shows how weak minded patriots are easily manipulated.... Did you play Cowboys and Indians when you were young, ? Were you a cowboy or an Indian...doesn't matter it was a stupid game anyway !
Not to mention the impact on soldiers and now veterans families from vacccienes and antidots against chemical and biological warfare, which impact those families til today! May those Oil-Bushes burn in hell for that Pandora's box they opened for the USA it's people and it's forces!!!💀💀💀
More well if you take the account of destroying Kuwaiti air force on the Iraqi invasion plus all the losses during the desert shield build up plus the desert storm operation losses or damage you will have something like over 100 aircraft and helicopter in there. There is a great Internet site for all the desert shield / storm operation. www.dstorm.eu/pages/en/menu.html
You say "small losses" because you compare with your enemy losses, iraq had pretty heavy losses, above 100.000 deaths. The coalition had a few hundreds, the allies loose 50 fix wing aircrafts, but the iraqi air force was totally decimated. So if you make a comparation you'll see that they really had few losses

Did anyone ever go to jail for 5 years, and/or get a $250,000 fine for copying these vids. or uploading them to YT? These are serious copyright laws people haha
And yes the guys from piratesbay got something like 30 copyright infractions which resulted in close to 50 million in fines and 10 months in jail for pirating videos internationally
You seem to not know how the procurement process for weapon systems works. The vast majority of the weapons used in this conflict where made years or decades before the war took place.
Americans have all the superior technology so it was a formality Iraq never had a functional military was not a war it was a one sided beating of a inferior opposition
Fair play to the yanks - the f15 is one hell of a plane. IMO it’s easily the best post war fighter aircraft, what else has been as clearly dominant for it’s time in it’s designated role. Hell not even the mustang or spitfire can match unbeaten a2a exchange rate. USAF pilots are always very professional too, guys I’ve spoken to that have been to red flag etc always speak really highly of US pilots. Also that eagle mig kill footage, the computer was calling bingo fuel like crazy and he just calmly continues the fight (nothing will eat fuel quicker than a2a scraps), then once the enemy was down he stayed out of afterburner and made sure his mates did so too. Hope they got to a tanker or I bet that journey home would have been pretty dicey!!

The first Iraq War was the best planned, best executed war in history, the 2nd Gulf War in 2003 had better technology, better surveillance, better aircraft, better everything but the planners got it badly wrong, they were overconfident in their planning, committed far too few troops and badly misjudged the Iraqi people. The Coalition service personnel were exceptional but the US Government planners/advisors got it badly wrong.
Keep your insecurity, prejudice, and bigotry to yourself. Your democratness is showing and its embarrassing you. I know you do not hold illiteracy in high regard considering your political party members rely on illiterate people, who see themselves as victims, to gain votes.

Infrared Radar.. I was an Army Air Defense guy. Went from Chaparral (Aim 9) and Vulcan 20mm cannon. Navy still uses it as Phalanx. No such thing as infrared radar. Want to argue with me. Go ahead . I was the Chief of the U.S. Army ADA school. ADC4I.
Oh, I taught PATRIOT missile systems and was in Combat twice. As a 1SG and CSM. I'm an electronic and mechanical engineer. Oh, I love my country and friends.
This was 2 years after the despicable Soviet Union collapsed into ruin. You barely had control of your country in '91 with all the former Soviet puppet states declaring independence and regions declaring themselves republics. You had no political influence and certainly no money to cause your usual trouble.
The 3 words Iraqi pilots hated to hear Just to give you something to read before you go for Read More or any way I’m a USAF brat and Navy Submariner during the first one in 91 I was a bartender at the Officer’s club at at Mather AFB where MOST of the Navigators, Bombardiers, *^~’s and EWO’s were trained tough job but some just have to mix drinks 👍🏻 “Cleared to taxi” How do you end an Iraqi bingo game? Call out “B-52”
@Reg Jennings Science much? Radar is an acronym for Radio Detection and Ranging. Radio and light waves are both part of the electromagnetic spectrum. And yes, infrared radar is real. It's called FLIR. Most people have seen night videos of police helicopters and Apache gunships using FLIR. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C3fO4vWwCT8.html
@@red94mr28 FLIR is not RADAR! FLIR is a passive device to image heat differences. RADAR is a whole different story. The script which the narrator read was a bit blurry. He mentioned the different sensors of an F-111F, the suite consisted of: several radars, and PAVE TACK (FLIR and Laser target designator).
