I’m glad everyone else recognised how little recognition Larry got for his CLEAN Wolf play. If that had been Zackray, I feel like the words “GODLIKE” and “THE BOY WONDER” would have been thrown around (even though ZR is a fantastic player). I get Marss has played way better this year but still, props to Larry. Commentators stop sleeping on the Lurr.
why couldnt they say nice things about larry’s play lmfao, everything was marss ‘being weird’ and ‘messing up’ maybe Larry’s just nice and marss was getting schmixed
I can definitely see how you could see it that way, but I have to admit that Marss was obviously off his game. Not saying that to discredit Larry in any way, but it seemed like Marss was really off his game.
Coney wasn't really being biased, because its all about perspective. You can see it as larry playing insanely well or marss playing really bad, but the outcome is the same. Statistically speaking though, marss is a top 3 PGR player and got upset by larry so its understandable to assume that marss was off his game (especially when marss ended up almost winning the whole tourney).
@@OneStepAheadOfYou1 Weird as in bad, if you've seen other Marss matches, you'd realize he is not playing on his usual level, this man has beaten the best players in the world several times ffs.
Tbh marrs is very emotianal hell start playing bad when he doesn't have an answer for something like with joker against zss he went falcon in the end out of frustration
Marrs did look a little slow for Marrs, but Larry’s play was absolutely phenomenal. He looked so confident and just destroyed Marrs for every mistake he made
I think we can all agree that Marss played worse than usual, but the commentary was extremely biased regardless and there was barely any recognition for Larry at all. Yes, they gave him a tiny bit of credit but it was completely overshadowed by Coney repeatedly saying that Marss was just playing unusually bad. Commentary was garbage during this set. Barely any talk about the game or recognition for the player that took the set. Disappointing.
Larry = Nice. But also, nairo and marss have said this matchup kinda sucks. Marss has gotten lucky in the past facing wolf players unfamiliar with how to fight ZSS. Now I see what they were saying. His anti air coverage makes her neutral so much harder.
Im glad somebody mentioned this before me, its very clear that the things wolf does to get damage/advantage are far stronger and safer in this matchup. His game plan was try to read marss' movement with short hops then shield and react for 80% of the set since grab is often not a threat.
@@G.dot_ Sure, if you win, you deserve the win no matter what, but marss was obviously playing worse then usual. He's even taken out Mkleo's wolf before, despite the shitty matchup, and as you can see, marss made the biggest losers run, made it to grands, got the reset on Tea, and almost won the whole tournament.
Larry is good but marss is obviously playing off, not to mention how terrible this match up is. If larry is "too good" how come he couldn't even make top 8, while marss almost won the whole tournament.
@@khaledd07 It is kinda massive, nobody was really expecting Larry Lurr who has been underperforming since launch to beat Marss (#3), a player who has beaten Nairo, Tweek, Samsora, Dabuz, MKLeo and more top players several times. Larry Lurr is not a big name in this game yet.
Interesting how when lower ranked players fall apart it's all because the higher ranked one outplayed them, got in their head, picked apart their playstyle, etc, but not when the situation is reversed. Give credit where credit is due.
big props to larry, but this is something a lot of top players recognize. zss loses to wolf. nairo, leo, esam, and marss all agree. wolf's damage output, ledge trapping, and reflector negate a lot of zss toolkit. zss is still top tier in my mind at least but wolf is definitely a hard matchup.
edit: a lot of top players seem to be saying how ultimate is on its way to being a "counter pick meta" where players recognize that some characters can consistently beat other characters easier. makes me wonder with that zachray win at big house last week, if learning multiple characters is that future meta of this game!
@@ThePiddlePopper we could see the same thing that smash 4 did before dlc. Constant counterpicks may be the meta. I personally don't know how I'd feel about that tbh
This is the main argument against her being top tier. She's good but the characters she loses to like wolf, Roy, chrom, are all pretty easy to pick up. So if two players of equal skill play one can pretty easily pick up a counter character. But marss is ridiculous so I'm sure he'll keep her relevant in the metagame. I'm not dropping her either.
Seal i like the idea of learning more characters to be more successful but i might be biased because my favorite players (nairo, tweek, zachray) already use multiple characters proficiently. if anything, it would definitely be fun to watch!
Not surprised. When marss isn't ready or pressured his mental state shatters and he doesn't play the same. Nice to see a good wolf other than zackray play so well. Who knows how ffar Larry can go, but if he keeps playing this well. Marss can be saying goodbye to being a top 5 player next season if he can't keep his emotions under control. He easily gets tilted.
Some of the worst commentary I've ever heard from Coney, extremely biased, no constructive commentary at all. Just excuses for the upset even though it was obvious Larry deserved to be praised for playing extremely well and earning the upset. Comment on the game next time buddy, not Marss.
A lot of people are saying the commentators were biased towards Marss, but I agree. He was playing sloppy and picking these weird options. Larry Lurr capitalized on his opportunity and sent Marss to Losers.

It can be both, but its most likely that larry was just playing better since he knows the mu very well and its a pretty difficult mu for zss too but thats subjective so i would say the matchup is the main reason he won especially since that would be discrediting larry for playing good. Not to mention he was close to beating marss at another tournament 3-2 or something but i cant remember the tourney.
Wolf - downthrow to Fspecial is a true combo depending on the opponents character weight class and damamge. With ZSS her sweet spit is 48%- 50s%. Idk why ppl dont use it more. Its guaranteed damage.
False. Every character except Peach, Jigglypuff, and Kirby can completely avoid it by DI’ing down and away. The spike is also never guaranteed on any character

Marss is def my fav player this smash game, but man he just got bodied. Coney ruined about 80% of the commentary on all these games, and for him to not recognize marss was taken by surprise with how nice Larry was playing is a travesty.
@@Greeds_ Many bad MUs...she has 10 bad MUs at worst and all of them are VERY doable, Wolf is definetly an easier MU than Pikachu or Olimar and Marss has beaten them very regularly. He didnt lost this one because of the MU (which isnt that bad), he lost because he played very poorly, simple as that. Yes i know he got 2nd but thats probably because he realized he played like trash and was about to get 17th at an event sponsored by PG.
Synopsis of every Marss match I've seen in the last 6months: Marss: *Gets Bodied* Commentators: *Marss not playing like himself. Hes top 5 in PGR for a reason! (Gives no credit to opponent)* This is why PGR is trash. Literally no other fighting game uses ranking systems like that to determine a player's skill which is another reason why Smash is a casual fighting game community. Its like the Call of Duty of fighting games. PGR is the equivalence of ESPN power rankings for sports. Its just something for the casual fans to argue over but in reality it doesnt mean anything. Like Smash fans, Most sport fans are casuals who do not know how to analyze the content on screen so they regurgitate power rankings/PGR to sound like they know what they are talking about. Most Smash fans can only say "he hit him with the dair to the fair to the nair to the snair to the cair to the tech chase to the gair to the pair to the jair to the ledge trap!" but dont understand the nuances of whats happening on screen. Most of the Smash community are like the casuals who complain that "GOLDEN STATE ONLY SHOOT 3s RAWR!" Yet they fail to realize that The warriors play some of the most beautifully intricate basketball i have ever seen There are at least 100 dudes in the U.S. who are better than overrated Marss yet he always gets placed high in the rankings. I feel as though youre just talking out of your arse. Ive watched many different tourneys from many different regions and yes there are definitely 100 US players better than Marss in ultimate Dont even get me started on the worldwide scene where there are close to 1000 better players. He was great in Sm4sh but ultimate is not his game
TheMusiqKing there are not 100 players better than Marss in the us. How would that even make sense, with him having shown that he can consistently top 8 majors and supermajors? While I agree that PGR is pointless and that Marss is overrated (though I don’t care as much about that second point as you evidently do), you just don’t have grounds to say that there are 100 players better than him in the world, let alone in the US specifically. The only tournament I can even remember him not getting top 8 in was like Evo. Where were those 100 players in all the other tournaments though?
