Full Run of Thunder Spirts on Maniac Difficulty (Hardest mode) with no deaths, my final score was 2,173,640 points. This was captured from a real SNES running the real cart. I did not use autofire in this playthrough, only pure button mashing!

A lot of folks hate on tbis game, myself, I like the Thunder Force series, and buying this years ago, just gave me more Thunder Force goodness to play.

Kind of interesting that Cerberus uses a totally unique design in this version - Radically different from both the TF3/AC appearance and the one fought in TF4's STRAIT stage. The ingame graphics also resemble TF4's art style more than that of III's, with significantly more complex shading and detail overall. Likewise, the ORN Core's appearance (also unique to this version) evokes the aesthetics of TF4's BIO-BASE stage, particularly the gnarled black biomass. I remember getting so mad when the game tricked me into dying, (eg. when there's a series of pillars that come closing in from the top and bottom, and the last set completely cut you off). You did such a great job! I never even knew you could make this game harder! My friends and I laughed when we saw that the crab boss shot giant Spaghettios as its projectile weapon.

You dindnt used auto fire but fired often in empty spaces of the game with high frequency? I found it to be really exhausting to play without auto fire in this game.

I didn't use autofire in this playthrough but I sure would if I ever played the game again. I'm too old to be mashing buttons like that anymore

Just curious Peg. Why would you play an inferior version of Thunder Force 3 when you have the excellent Genesis game? Nice run BTW.

The only reason I played this one was that I was trying to clear all of the SNES shoot em ups and this one was in the rotation. I totally agree that the Genesis TF III (and TF AC) is a million times better than this version. I do own all of the TF games I will be doing runs of he entire TF series at some point.

Fix the slowdown on this using that SA-1 thing and this would be a really solid port of the arcade game, maybe even better.

No miss means no death, it's a term a lot of Japanese STG players use to notify they 1 life cleared the game. You might want to start studying game terms for stuff like this, it's a common mistake the casual observer tends to make.

That's what's messed up in the world. dumb logic. Don't get me wrong English people miss pronounce so many game titles more than anything it's annoying to know. Also been playing games for 24 years why has it not swung my way or do I don't give a f.

Never knew there was a SNES version of this game! It was Thunder Force III on the Sega Genesis. This... doesn't look as good, though.

It's even more confusing than that. This game (Thunder Spirits) is actually a port of the arcade game called Thunder Force AC. Thunder Force AC is an arcade port of a console game (Thunder Force III). So it's actually a console port of an arcade game that is a port of a console game lol.

Jimmy Biggs MegaDrive TF III is way far better than TS. But TS wins in only one aspect to MegaDrive TF III and TF AC, final stage. At Thunder Spirits the final stage isn't a plain sub Boss and final boss fight, unlike Thunder Force III and TF AC

I think it came down to familiarity with the hardware Technosoft worked with. They didn't do many games for the SNES, and really I think Seika just ported this over more than Technosoft having anything to do with it (Technosoft's Jaki Crush pinball game on SFC is pretty good), but Technosoft was also quite familiar with the Mega Drive, and the X68000 guts inside of the Genesis.

This was one of the most disappointing games I ever rented. My buddy and I both had an SNES, but he also had a Genesis, and we loved the shooters (as we called them back then, before FPS games). Thunder Force III was one of our favorites. So when we heard about this port, we were super excited to see what Technosoft would do with the SNES hardware. Man what a let down! The Genesis version was clearly superior even to our dumb teenage minds.
