Nice tie. Reminds me of a Harrison Steeves' pattern. If your excited about the design, that tells me a lot. Also shows me how under appreciated Harrison is as a fly designer/innovator.
There is a lot going on with that thing, it little big for my needs here in New England, I could see myself on the Madison with one of the new Hi-tech Sage R8 6 wt flinging those along the bank out of a drift boat. And I don't like fishing out of boats. The Bling on that bug makes it worth tying just because.
Don’t be so sure. I have done several destination shoots(writer) in the Eastern US where big hoppers/terrestrials weren’t on the menu and they worked great. Last August-September was epic on sz. 6 hoppers back East for me.
Did I miss the step where you zapped the knots on the silly leg material to the foam legs? Will those single overhand knots hold? Apologies if I missed it. Thanks.
Eric assured me that no glue is necessary on the leg knots, however, after fishing with the unglued versions last month, I did have a couple lose the lower leg. A tiny shot of Zap on the knot can’t hurt.
Okay...dumb question from a "new guy" I tried tying an egg and when I pulled everything up and cut straight across.....I got a flat top cartoon looking critter! haha It in NO WAY made a ball!! Could it be not enough mc fly foam?! I saw how small the package was and maybe I was being too conservative with it! I'm going to make a dispenser like Tim suggests and maybe that will cut down on waste!! Any help appreciated!
You stated in the video you used the River Road Creation chernobyl-style (round end) foam body cutter but it looks more like the tapered end. Could you verify?
What "long" scissors are those? I've seen them in various videos, but have never seen them on fly tying materials sites. This pattern looks really good!
Just as an added tidbit concerning foam-to-foam adhesives, Gorilla has a "Spray Adhesive Heavy Duty" product that works well. I have nothing to do with Gorilla business-wise. Just sayin'. 🙂
