Can I run my Portable Thunderbird on a USB flash drive (formatted xFAT) on Linux Mint, (Currently runs on windows 7 pro) by just plugging it in ? Or are there steps that I need to take ?
You can try to run the Windows version with Wine, but if you want to use the profile in the Linux edition of Thunderbird, I suppose you have to copy over the profile.
@@ekiwi-blog-english Okay, so I guess my USB flash drive with TB is not interchangeable between Linux and Windows, I will have to have one or the other, or two separate drives? Thanks for your help !
@@ekiwi-blog-english Well basically I want my email client on a portable flash drive that I can move from machine to machine. Soon I want to have Poxmox in virtual environment running different OS's including different distro's of Linux and Windows 7, 10, and 11. So when I plug in the usb drive these VM's will read it. I really don't want Thunderbird tied to any one machine. I tinker with my computers, changing things and experimenting. What I don't know is if TB needs specific clients based on what OS it's running on. I have a portable version of TB, which is I got while on Windows 7 (which is my current daily driver, and have run with no issues for years). Any guidance from you would be greatly appreciated. And thanks for your time.
@@EJSmith-dk3yg Well you could try Wine to run the portable version from the USB drive. The problem is, the portable Thunderbird seems to be the Windows version, which does not run directly in Linux or other operating systems.
