When the Ocean Pioneer tanker mysteriously explodes, Brains investigates the cause, and discovers it to be a chemical reaction between the cargo of liquid Alsterene and OD60, which is found in the sea. International Rescue set out to save the crew of the ill-fated Ocean Pioneer II.

Perhaps ironic that, in an ep entitled 'Danger at Ocean Deep', the only Thunderbird that we don't get to see in action is TB4

I can confirm in Thunderbirds Are Go (2015 remake), John does take a more active role in it.

It always struck me how Scott mentions in this episode that he has been involved in all rescue's, however he wasn't involved in the perils of penelope. Chronologicly this does take place after that one i'm pretty sure!

Perhaps he didn’t count The Perils of Penelope rescue because they were saving one of their own rather than ordinary citizens. Kind of like an internal job or something.

Ah, my favourite episode. The script, visual effects and soundtrack are all spot on in this episode! Does anyone else think the captain of Ocean Pioneer II looks like Uncle Albert from "Only Fools And Horses"?

Of course, after the events of the episode, we can assume the shipping line sued Allpets over the loss of two ships.

class87fan if the tanker companies had known the od60 was there the company would have routed the tanker around the od60 pile because they didn't know the od60 was there they sailed right through it

knight6831 I'm not so sure of that. The commander can be seen standing behind Penelope during Ocean Pioneer II's launch, so evidently he survived.

The Mighty Atom is the only episode I believe where all 5 Thunderbird craft were used (although not on the same disaster)

It's the only Gerry Anderson episode to my knowledge with a sort of environmental aspect - wasn't the OD60 dumped in the ocean? That didn't turn out to have been a smart move, did it? Compare Doctor Who: The Green Death.

Yes, OD60, as mentioned in the episode, was used to make dog food and was found only in the Gulf of Mexico but the rights holders of OD60 due to increasing transport costs throught be a fantastic idea to dump OD60 in the Mediterranean to help the material flourish and keep transport costs down not realising that Liquid Alsterine carried by Ocean Pioneer tankers were a highly combustible combination.

I don't know if I just missed in previous episodes, but I spotted a browncoat today :D Great vlogs btw chaps! Halfway now and definitely going to finish watching all of them :D
