They technically have a song together on Flying Lotus' song "More" on his newest album. Anderson does vocals and while he isnt specifically named it's obvious thundercat is doing the guitar/bass parts.
God damn, I came here to see the man behind the intoxicating funk of Lamar's "Wesley's Theory" and I was not prepared for this level of bass playing. I can't even comprehend this, man.
finally after years of mourning the passing of George Duke, I have someone to carry the torch. Thank you Thundercat. You are amazing and keep the spirit alive!
I love this, the imperfections are awesome! The fact that Hamm came into the solo early and immediately knew it and Brunner sued him in after the bridge.
Wonderin' bout TC's wry smile n' raised eyebrow at 1:08. I can only think is it was a little inside acknowledgment and jab to the keys player. A few bars before he came in with synth strings on the first go, then quickly shifted to acoustic piano setting for the remainder.
What a talent. To be able to sing and play bass is incredibly difficult. To do it at this level is off the chart add in this guys song writing skillz and voice and you have the makings of musical genuis. Great track
some of the perks of being a musician is hearing the smaller things. My favorite thing Ive noticed is the tempo speeding up slowly its there in the recording but its so much more noticeable in the live version.
rishard daniels your completely right that’s just one thing I mentioned and I didn’t know how to word the rest of what I was saying so everything is worded wrong and an incomplete thought
Cool that he allows a guest solo. Cool that the song takes different forms depending on who else is playing. I was getting jazz vibes from this breakdown but there are several ways to deliver it and they all work amazingly
Love Thundercats music and Flying Lotus!!! Have all they're CD's and I Love KCRW. Me and my sister used to live in LA and we always looked foward to Garth Trinidad's shows. Thanks 4 posting this!!!☮💕😀
1st time listener now i know why my Son is a BIG fan, one of his graduation gifts from CIM (double Bass ) is tickets to you guys when you come to Columbus OH....and yes you have a new but older fan ask well. Good luck guys and be better then Bless!
This brother is in another place, would love to visit, puts in mind of what I grew up believing in adversity art has no limits, art is free, art is all we really have, art is what we only are !
the tempo is a little faster than his official release. this isn't a complaint because that means that this was unique and has almost more value then the original
3:21: The eye of a man completely aware of his surroundings as he rips out the voice of God himself from the bass guitar, wary of his bandmate's temporary desync with the funk
The line "Why would I give my heart to you..." is so much more "real" than bs love song writing from 70s and 60s. Kudos to THUNDERCAT. "Who's that? THUNDERCAT."
Why do you say that? This man, Thundercat has the name of a funk Super hero and sounds like he's been listening to too much of the '70s Philadelphia sound, which is a good thing because the songwriting was much better in the 1960s and '70s than it is today. That line is so much more "real" sounds like an advertisement that chooses style over content, meaning, and substance. Why is this line, "Why would I...." more real than cheesy lines in '60s or '70s songs? Language changes with the times whereby new expressions are made popular by musicians - maybe this is what you mean by sounding more real or authentic. It's just a guess.
Real talk: this is the most "normal" I've seen him look. It seems like he's almost cosplaying as "eclectic Black guy" most of the time (which is fine, of course).
