LISTEN TO ALL THOSE JUNGLES, Jingling to the Rhythm of the drum. Dance your heart out You Indigenous Ladies. 😢 I miss dancing, however seening this made me proud an happy. One day I will get back on to the pow wow grounds an ROCK MY Jingle dress. 😃
proud of my first born, Sophie, dancing good straight Shiibaashka'igan (Jingle dress) style, representing Anishinaabe/Three Fires Confederacy in an honourable way. She got 2nd, miigwech to Thunderchild and community for hosting a safe event :-) good work Sheldon, especially pronouncing 'Wikwemikong' in a good way :-)
I know this was years ago but my goodness the girl in the half black and white skirt is just to be adored. I live in viva Nuevo Mexico and these girls are killing it!
Beautiful. Is there a reason why some without fans look at the ground and others with fans raise their arms during certain parts of a song? Was always curious
Hi Chantelle... there are two styles of Jingle Dress... Contemporary style w fans... Old Style without fans... "certain parts of a song" you refer to are called Honor Beats, usually to represent acknowledgement of the Creator... Old Style bow their heads in recognition of acknowledging the Creator during these Honor Beats... Contemporary raise their fans to acknowledge the Creator... fans are made with Eagle Feathers... it is believed that the Eagle carries our prayers to the Creator... therefore, Eagle fans are raised to the Creator... just my understanding.... hope this gives you some insight... thanks for the visit and the comment... take care... :-)
Interesting watching this. I never knew why I used to do certain moves whenever I heard certain beats, or just felt like moving. I guess it’s a bit instinctual or racial memory. Lovely to watch. Thank you so much for sharing.. :)
Hello Yes... to answer your question, no, you do not need to audition... if you want to dance, dance... at powwow, there is general dancing called inter-tribals, at this time, anyone can join the circle and dance, with or without regalia... then there is the competition segment... dancers of each category are scored by judges... style, rhythm, footwork, regalia and timing with the song and drum... dancers have option to compete or just dance for the enjoyment of dancing... there is no general dancing during the competition segments of the powwow... thank you for the channel visit... :-)
we dance like that because back in the day this wasn’t allowed and we were taught everything but how to be who we were so now we do this for our ancestors and for us
