Maybe the TI-84 is different but I used solver on a TI-86, then the TI-89 at work. The solver was the most useful and used feature on my calculator. I would have arithmetically complex calculations saved as "EXPR"s and I could work the solver to find out what value I needed to make something true. Not only to determine a value from a set of measurements, but also to sense check assumptions. If the solver came out to an unrealistic number, I knew that assumption was wrong. This would work for complex equations with multiple variables. It would also use nested equations. I would enter each basic equation in a simplified form, nest and chain them and then use the solver for any of the basic variables even in complex, multi-EXPR solver equations. The trick was to save the equations in the right order so they wouldn't be overwritten with a numerical answer as a simple variable. The TI-86 and TI-89 do not have the requirement that the solver expression equal zero. This is a trivial, albeit annoying, restriction for the TI-84. I also don't know if the TI-84 is able to save EXPRs the same way the TI-86 and TI-89 could. Solver is not good learning tool, I suppose, and not all that useful for tests. But an absolute god send for any task where one actually has to compute something for a living. For example. SAL = 5.368.370718296/(RW25-0.0123)^1.047120471204188482 is estimating the salinity of NaCl in ppm from the resistivity of water at 25 degC. It is not an expression I want to key into my calculator often and not something I want to sit down and do the algebra to get the inverse. Sometimes I would have the salinity, sometimes I would have the Rw25 and I would need to convert between them. Based on additional equations I could make estimates of Rw25 and estimate the salinity to see if it made sense. Used properly solver is an amazing practical tool for engineers and scientists who often have to deal with arithmetically complex conversions and correlations on a daily basis. I also used solver extensively in Excel for non-linear least squares fitting, but it could be used for simpler expressions like above.
Hi, what if you have a very complicated equation that's not equal to zero? I would prefer to have the solver that has two boxes for two equations, but my calculator doesn't seem to have it. Is there a way to change the settings or something?
if you have a complicated equation on one side and let's say X on the other, you can just put that the equation minus X = 0. So if we have lg10=X you can put lg10-x=0. Hope this helps?
Is there anyway to configure the calculator TI 84- plus, for the equation solver don’t make everything linear, I mean like, when I put a fraction dont put a slide to separate numerator and denominator, and put it like a normal fraction?
