Tickets are piling up, but drivers aren’t paying them. Kansas City now says it’s revving up enforcement to catch the top parking offenders. Read more at m.kshb.com/1wiE5kE
Firstly who builds an apartment block without parking, even more important who allows the block to be built. Build parking garages on the parking lots shown in the clip, make then available only for local residents. Now you have company employees how are they going to park and don't say they should use public transport. That does not work properly for the outlying districts making the journey into the town or city a many change and/or long commute. My sister living in the UK just 20 mins drive time from the city of Gloucester had a ONE TIME PER WEEK BUS SERVICE. Plus companies in town could not fill vacant job slots.
Not sure I understand this. In most jurisdictions you cannot renew your registration every two years without paying (with penalties) all your parking tickets. No registration and you get your car impounded by the police, any time, any where and you walk home.
They need to give 30 days to pay in full, 90 days if you appeal for a hardship. No pay, auction car, problem solved. Owner not allowed to attend auction. Scofflaws barred from registering car in the state for a time period (year or 2)!
@@Beezlie727 Actually, I don't think that you can do that, unless the car's owner is also the title holder. If the car is still "owned" by the car loan holder, auctioning it off would be screwing the bank (or whatever), not the car's driver "owner". I don't know if there are any laws against this, but it seems very unfair to the holders of car loans.
I'm in the middle a bit here. I mean if you are allowed to build an apartment unit in the city, I honest believe you should be given parking permit to residents of said unit. The first lady was right, how is it that she lives at a unit but there is no place to park in around the building. Why do they have to park 3 or so blocks away, and yet they paying X amount of money to live at that residence.
The problem is that that doesn't necessarily stop people from driving. Even if you impound their car, they might get a new one or borrow one and still drive.
They are not paying fines, do you think taking their license is going to stop them driving? One guy in Australia went to court and lost his license. He walked out the court, in front of all the news cameras, got in his car and drove away. Take the car, or garnish their wages, do something that is going to really hurt them.
You can’t take the license for a parking violation.... here in California after 5 unpaid tickets you get a boot or towed or when you have to register your car you have to pay all the tickets to get registration...
Man, they don't pay thousands n parking fines. you think they won't drive without a valid license? They are scum of the Earth. Take their cars and sell it on auction to pay for the fines.
@@godfireprime And what if the car still has an outstanding loan on it? You'd be screwing the financial institution that holds the loan. No, I think that the idea is to go after the DRIVER. Garnish their wages. Or perhaps if they own a house, put a lien on the house. Also, I'm thinking that after a certain point, these people should also have to do some community service as punishment. Not punishment for the parking infractions, but punishment for failing to pay the fines after reaching a certain point.
if there are not ENOUGH parking spots IN the city (to park cars) ... then WHERE or who is the problem? is it about right/wrong ... is it about law and order ... is it about lost revenue ... is it about all the spaces being TAKEN? if it's about cars ... there's almost certainly a SCAM going on ... somewhere ...
Paying to park is a ridiculous concept. I mean it is the poster child for nickel and diming people, or in this case quarters. There has to be a better way to make revenue. Tax payers already pay for the roads, why are we double paying?
Dude, they need to zone downtown parking to ALLOW people living in that zone to actually park there. What the hell is wrong with Kansas City? They’re paying their property taxes to cover those spots.
Back in the 80's, my brother had over 13 parking tickets. Hid them from our father. Then a notice of a bench warrant for our father for outstanding parking tickets because the car was in our father's name. Our dad got beyond mad! My brother had to pay for every parking ticket, and go to court with our dad to straighten things out. So how come after so many parking tickets, why is there no bench warrants? A judge could rule on this very easily. Is the city just looking for revenue? Something does not seem right if no bench warrants or a warrants not issued for outstanding parking tickets.
It makes me think of the scene fro Liar Liar when Jim Carrey says "NO!... I have unpaid parking tickets!" Then he presses the glove compartment and over 100 tickets just explode out and then he says "Be gentle" Whilst the cop is looking at it in complete disbelief.
Maybe before then. On the "Beverly Hillbillies", they thought that they would be paid for parking there. The tickets were ignored because they did not need the money.
Why? The arrests are unlawful, the only reason the city is doing this is to extort the citizen. The city streets are paid for by taxes, the city has no reason to put up meters asking for more money.
In my country 2 tickets you lose your car depending on how many points you have on your drivings license. Plus the ticket like that here is prob like 80 euros that would be like 89,31 Dollars
Tow the car, and don't release it until the fines are paid. PLUS start criminal action against the car owner. Don't renew licences or registration until the fines are paid. Make life really tough for them.
Mexico has very good system, major take front tag, minor take rear tag. Only get back after fines paid. Cops see car driving missing either one stops check date if beyond say 15 days car is towed period. Owners will always be checked and if not paid lose car and we get a walker? This really does work great. Lived there 9 years very effective
Parking tickets are like old TV attachment that gives basic TV services, most people do not pay it at all , like having TV or radio , people hope the car tickets will apply to to the same way of being sited but not in trouble by tge law for evading payments
"they're not going to tow this" ... he says, just as a semi tow truck with a large boom drives up to tow the damn bus away ... and charge him the thousands it will cost for the tow.
rarelibra that is true and yes we can tow them. I’m a PEO for My city, and I tow semi trucks and buses like the one that bozo has👍🏽 he is so wrong. It costs thousands of dollars hourly to impound oversized vehicles. It’s going to cost him more.
This is what they are worried about?? Bruh there are worst things happening to this country why are they more concerned with such a solvable problem? Like, when they renew their license deny them till they pay up or tow them after the third offense. #WTFAmerica
No matter how old the tickets are they should have to pay them. Otherwise they are getting away with bad behavior and they won't pay for any now hoping years will go by and then they won't have to pay again.
I have been watching videos from other countries of vehicles being towed. They have some neat tow trucks for parallel parked vehicles. They pull up alongside and either a mechanisim extends out under the vehicle, lifts it up, then retracts, or over the vehicle and heavy straps hanging from it are passed under the vehicle and attached to the bar, then it lifts the vehicle straight up, and then retracts and loads. Then they drive off. Sweet!
I've seen that. For some reason, KC is about 40 yrs behind the times. The best thing about KC, is the road OUT OF IT. Becoming more like Detroit, every day. Hey ! Got street cars, though. Gets the yuppies around.
Don't people have to go get a sticker, once a year, for their car? Maybe, when they go to buy one, and their registration is put into the computer, they can't buy one, until they paid their tickets, i know around here, they'll suspend your license until it's paid off
Yep. Nothing hard about that. They OVER THINK remedies for this stuff. The DMV will deny tag & driver's license & flag tie info to insurance companies. I say make the offenders attend classes (as in DUI cases,) having to pay (or course). Make them get in their pockets HARD. Repeat offenders- JAIL TIME. PROBATION, COMMUNITY SERVICE, LITTER PATROL. Same & more for handicap parking violators- OF ANY KIND.
If they wouldn't let them go so long without paying, it would lessen the question as to whether or not they paid. Now this guy that is so proud of himself for his outstanding parking tickets is just encouraging others to not pay them either. If he gets off, then others are going to follow suit. I thought if you had outstanding parking tickets, regardless of how many, you couldn't renew your DL or registration. And, it certainly DOES pay to crackdown on them. Looks like if they collect what is due, it would easily compensate them for the cost to recoup the fees/fines. This place is just doing it all wrong, it would seem.
Who's running the city? There grandma😁in most cities, if you don't pay, no registration renewals, license revoked, 3rd ticket put a nice boot on the car. You can't just keep slapping people on the wrist. It's a waste of time all around. How do you allow someone to rack up for parking tickets with no consequences.
Just have the vehicles towed for immediate crushing , charge the offender for everything . Whether they work or not have their finances garnished....the technology is there
3:39) DUMB. DUMB.The city/county may not have heavy duty tow trucks, but bus companies do. Privately owned tow trucks can be called for. There are videos about them. Maybe a law should be passed to give the drivers/owners 90 days to ante up. After that, an automatic Nolo Contendere. Any points be placed on their record.
join the conversation why won't they just pay them. 78 is a lot of tickets . These people would not have these if they just watched the time and put more money in the meter
last time i owed a buttload of tickets they impounded my car until i paid if i didnt pay in six months they would have put my car on the auction block i paid reeeal fast.
