Tidepooling during King Tide 

Tide pooling during one of the lowest of the low tides of the year!
Just a couple days before christmas last year the coastline experienced one of the King Tide events of the year. I waited til tide started to drop before heading to the tide pools so I don't have a comparison shot for the difference in water level - maybe next time.
This was one of the trips where I've seen the smallest number of animals. As always several sea birds and shore birds (several seagull species, royal terns, etc) were around taking advantage of the opportunity to forage in the pools. Some of the tide pool creatures and plants you'll see in this video include Pacific Purple Sea Urchins, Ochre Sea Stars, Hermit Crabs, Striped Shore Crabs, the structure belonging to Sand Castle Worms, a California Spiny Lobster molt, Black Tegulas, Gooseneck Barnacles, limpets, California Muscles, Anemones, Feather Boa Kelp, Banded Fanweed and more.
It is important to say you should not take any creatures you find in tide pools home! Observe them without touching - especially sea stars on the west coast which were hit hard by Starfish Wasting Disease which can be spread when someone touches one starfish and then another not knowing that one is infected.
