I love the result. What I don't like is wasted buttercream and the thickness of the buttercream when you cut into it.

Piped roses are one of the thickest styles of piped frosting but since a lot is scraped off here, the frosting ends up being thinner than regular piped roses. You don't have to waste the scraped off buttercream luckily - you can store it in a sealed container or sandwich bag for 2 weeks in the fridge or 2 months in the freezer and then re-tint for another cake :)

Wouldn't it have come out way better to not scrape it and just add the white after it comes out of the freezer ?? As for what to try next how about the Russian piping tips in one or two colors max then right when it comes out of the freezer add a leafy green background color... maybe with one or more green hues. Idk.. just a thought.

You could not scrape it back after freezing the first time, but you'd have to add a lot more white buttercream and do a lot more scraping back in one go that way. The scraping takes some effort so breaking the task into two makes it easier on yourself. And any additional white buttercream you're adding and taking off is likely to be mixed with some coloured buttercream, so you may end up wasting more that way. (Yes, you can always save it to use for dark buttercream like black or navy, but probably better not to make more multi-coloured buttercream than you have to.) PS I like your Russian piping tip idea!

Love your idea with the Russian tips! And yes, you could add white straight out of the freezer but you would have very very thick frosting on the cake

I think the texture is prettier too, but the flat design is more unusual because buttercream designs are almost always textured and you typically have to use fondant or icing sheets to make a flat pattern
