I really love this because it's obvious that it's not a vow of romantic love, but a vow of commitment and loyalty. It's really interesting because it's a perfect visualization of the relationship of a master and their 'servant' or companion. I don't think I've seen something like this anywhere else but in this anime. Really really interesting and the music is phenomenal too

This series may not have the best fight scenes or intense mind games like other series may, but damn if it doesn't hit you in the feels with the character's stories and the musical score that accentuates the moments just right. I still get goosebumps seeing this, especially after the spell is complete and "Ruth" is born anew.

It'd make sense as a Norse reference to Jörmungandr the world-snake. Ragnarök/the end of the world starts when Jörmungandr finally lets go of its tail. So basically, they've pledged their bond on a clause that will never void.

@@bicarbonat1 Jormungandr is just an example of an Ouroboros, an Ouroboros is an ancient symbol or motif you see in many different cultures that involves a snake eating its own tail, and it's often meant to express eternity. It's a popular symbol in the alchemical tradition, Hermeticism, and in Gnosticism so it makes perfect sense that this is what Chise and Ruth are referring to rather than specifically Jormungandr, basically they won't break their bond for all of eternity.

I have had that thought, and I also have the scene where Ruth is holding Chise to him while blocking the giant masked blob that chased her right by him as my background on my phone, and 2 random people have asked, when I hit the home button to go to my main screen on my phone, which artist did that fanart of Aizawa and is the red hair girl a OC or someone else in BNHA/MHA. The shock when I tell them that, while I love Aizawa, this is not him but Ruth and Chise from The Ancient Magus Bride and show them the quick scene from the anime that the screenshot was taken from.

Ulysse and Isabelle lived over 100 years before Chise, were in love, but Isabelle died tragically. Ulysse became a Grim in the churchyard where Isabelle is buried. Cartaphillis/Joseph was using Isabelle to attempt to bind Ulysse to him. Ulysse begged Chise to make him her familiar to safe him from Joseph. Ruth is still deeply in love with Isabelle, and tells her he will one day be with her again.

It's kinda relief, because Joseph really didn't know that the head of the girl was someone related to the Black Dog. It really was a coincidence. Had he known, he would have used her corpse far more effectively to mess with the Black Dog.

I’m watching this in 2019! Somehow I ship Chise and Ruth. For me, this part is the most emotional scene in the whole anime series!
