bleach the black shirt and then add pink and purple dye to the lighter parts. It wont look perfect but thats the only way.

I tried to dye a collard shirt for my brother but literally none of the dye stayed. The fabric kinda feels a little bit firmer than cotton like polyester or something. I waited 12 hours but it still looks like a very faint, messy/dirty shirt or something. Does this only work on cotton? Also, I kinda wasted all of my dye so there’s only a tiny bit left, if I just add water to the remaining dye will that work for regular cotton?
