I know you're not the developer, but don't you think it would be better if the dirt colors were more discernable. Tier 1 Light brown( loose dirt), Tier 2 Dark Brown(compacted dirt), Tier 3 Grey (stone)

IRL darker dirt is on top, deeper you go, lighter it gets (till you hit the bedrock)... so, what you said, but reversed (look up "soil horizons") ^^

So the thing i struggled with the other day which you kindly responded to, is that i dug down with my tier 2 pickaxe as far as i could. i placed my tier two miner and it wouldn't work. What the fix was is to raise the miner one whole block. So it clips in to the bed rock, it wont work but it "tings" like hitting bedrock, raise it one more block and it does nothing just refuses to mine, raise it yet another block and off it goes. (of course at all points i had dirt under it to try and prime it, i even racked the dirt so it had full coverage, it just has to be that two blocks gap.) Just threw me that above the tier 3 dirt it wouldn't work!

Might also want to note that the depth affects the size of the lump you get. at my tier 2 lowest point i get blocks (regardless of gold, iron or gems) weighing around 4.2 - 4.4. At the bottom of my tier 1 they are about 2.2 weight. This would make a decent experiment video. Water pressure changes the speed but not the weight of the lumps.

It's always been the lower one digs the better quality (weight) of ore. This is why most experienced player dig down as low as they can from the very start.

just curious if I'm missing something obvious, I've been working in Snowrune Falls a few days now. full surface setup just to get things moving. all working well. My next phase was to work on Deep mining....after all the digging and setup of pipes and machines I am yielding 1(kg?) dirt chunks at surface, AND at Bottom T1 level. I've tested Various depths and always seems the same. Am i not supposed to be Gaining heavier dirt the deep i go with a T1 Drill?

@@Griit282 intersting that's kind of what i suggested the video needed to look at. I believed the deeper you get the bigger. Its the way it always was. Might well be that tier 1 is all the same and tier 2 is different. If i get logged on later i can certainly go check on my starter rig, its still setup with one on the surface and 10 at the lowest. I could test the same on my tier two setup and move one rig to the top of the tier 2 range

the icehelm forge mine is the same, except turned 90° (so it's horizontal, instead of vertical)... and not only you can't dig a higher tier dirt with a lower tier pickaxe, the lower tier grinder won't, well, grind the higher tier dirt clumps, either (they'll just bounce)

You may want to make an addendum that the depth of T1 may vary depending on the topography of the mine you are digging into. Using the T1 pick Axe is the fool proof way I have used to know when you are at the bottom of t1

Hey, so Im a little bit confused. Does the dirt tier depend on where it was taken from or where it is now? For example, if I take some tier 3 dirt, but put it on the surface will it still be the tier 3 dirt or will it magically transform into tier 1 dirt?

hydroneer myth basically. if you take t1 dirt and set ity on t1 it becomes tier 1 dirt... if you take t1 dirt to t3 it becomes t3 dirt.

I watched some of your other start videos. Is there a benefit to having your first machines on "Level 0" instead of putting it at the bottom of Tier 1 hole you initially dug with the pixaxe and shove? Or, do you do that to save from buying vertical conveyor belts?

right at the start u can do it either the main reason iv done a demo on top level was to mainly show people how to do things.. but id prefer the way i did it in the live streams where the drill is underground.

Is the deeper dirt within each tier better? Or does it only matter if you change tier layers? For example do you get better loot from level 8 vs level 1? Or should you just stay on the surface till tier 2?

changing layers from tier 1 through blocks 1 to 8 u will notice a small change the whole way down.. this can be proven by digging at ember

How does a drill calculate the soil? Is it from where the soil is taken from or is it where the drill is located? For example; Can you take a Tier 2 dirt and place it under a Tier 2 drill and get Tier 2 results, if the drill itself is located at level 1? Or do you have to place the drill itself as low as possible?

Great vid and information as always. I did have a question and if it's something you think has merit to it could maybe make a video of. Since the mechanics of the game aren't just about making money anymore, but now includes crafting with your materials... would you be able to experiment with ore mixing? By that I mean is it possible to supplement the weight of an iron bar (or even cloutium) by throwing mostly iron in a cauldron with some gold/power ore/etc to increase the weight of it while still having the outcome be an iron bar or whatever bar you are wanting to make? If it's possible, what then would be the mix ratio to keep the outcome as the intended bar?

u cant ore mix when u put 2 sets of ore into a smelter the ore with the greatest value cancels out the other ore and becomes the smelted ore.. so if you put 1 iron and 2 gold the one with the heightest value becomes the main ore in the smelter

I'll try to figure out if each tier going to have different resources or not. Probably gonna take some time to move the mine though. All mining soil has tiers on every mine that existed on the map except the first mining spot.

nope all ores are rng only difference is the deeper u go the larger the ore so if you get a nugget of gold from top its between 0.3 oz and 0.9 oz and if you get the gold from lowest u cang o right now its between 4 and 5 lbs.. so the best way to get ores is deep as u get more per ore.. depth and pressure have no factor when it comes to which ore you get as the rare elements are rare doesnt matter on depth

Is there actually a difference between a Tier1 Harvester that is on level 1 and a Harvester that is on level 8 in the yield? Because the game just tells you the deeper you go the more resources you find, but it can just mean the tiers by that. I love the way you analytically go through the game to explain it to peaople, good job! :D

Yeah, hi, 2 questions. Question 1: do profits increase every level deeper? I did a build on the surface and a build 4 floors down and the chunks looked bigger. I assume they're more profitable. Does that apply to tier 2 and 3 as well? what is the gradient of profits? Question 2: Am I supposed to have near infinite gold by the time I get cloutium drills set up? I can't find a better way to target cloutium specifically and I don't really know what to do with all my millions of coins. Thanks bro. Great video!

as u go deeper the ores u get from the drills or even hand digging are bigger. also gems are different vales and you can only mine cloutium from 2 blocks down with a drill and below no surfance cloutium with drills.

Thanks for explaining the only thing that I’m having an issue with is the dirt glitch after nuking my way in, spent a bit a time fighting the game trying to place down pipes drills etc. I’m not sure if this is just in the area I’m in or all areas have this issue with using nukes. (Icehelm)

Does the quality of the ore depend on the depth of the drill or the type of dirt placed around it? Like, could you place a tier 2 drill on the surface but cover the bottom with dirt from floor 12 and get floor 12 quality ore?

@@Hybridsteel so it's purely based on location not on dirt. As soon as you move dirt from tier 2 up to tier 1 it becomes tier 1 dirt. Makes sense. I just thought that it might save quite a lot of complexity if you could simply pull a bit of good dirt up to the surface.

u cant move dirt from one place to another "floor" and get more out of it that has never worked. the deeper you go the better ur yields

Hi - thanks for your videos! They are my "tutorials" right now ;) But I have a question left: before 2.0 it was, that the deeper you dig, the more resources you gain. Is that obsolete? Or do you get more, when you dig in the same tier a bit deeper? Is Tier 1 floor 1 as rewarding as Tier 1 floor 5?

so the way it works is as u go deeper the reource is worth more between floor 1 and floor 5 the size will go from 0.2 to around 1lb then after that weight goes up.. u have to go down a few floors with mahcines so u get cloutium and gems now have different values depending on which gem stone u get. iv covered that as well.

if u move dirt from 1 level to another the dirt takes the properties of where it is placed so if you take dirt fro msay floor 9 and put it at floor 1 it turns into floor 1 dirt

Yes, ore size scales up the lower you go, so always better to put T1 miners on the lowest level they can work

this is going to sound like a dumb question but on each level of each tier what goes first the drill or harvester so can i have 22 drills 1 on each level do i start at ground level or just above it

i always have a harvester up top and sorting area in the same area, change harvester per level u hit so when ur mining t2 change the harvester to t2 as t1 dirt will go through that as well. long conveyors though do cause a little lag at high volume.

What about the mine at icehelm? It seems quite weird, because if you follow the "dig deeper for better resources" saying, the most valuables should be underneath icehelm, since it is so deep underground, and it does count it as underground as cloutium can be extracted from there, but it seems to be only tier one. Also I think at a certain point dirt is gonna have to be switched to stone, and I think having a visual difference between the tiers of dirt as clumps would be good as well.

The "tier-reset-shoveful" mechanic is still working? i mean, when u shovel a deep dirt and dump in a diferent place.. in previus version of the game, that dirt will turn to surface-tier soil. Regards

yeah if you put a shovel full of soil anywhere it sets to where u put it so u can put soil on tier 2 from tier 1 and it becomes tier 2

AS OF TODAY (April 10th 2024) I was able to put a tier 1 harvester in a tier 2 area. It works. It harvests. It just doesn't harvest the full size nuggets that a tier 2 can get, AND you don't get as much Cloutium. Unless for some reason the underground dwarven mountain mining spot isn't tier 2. But I am pretty sure that inside is tier 2 as its already underground.

so cloutium comes from 2 blocks below surface dirt i have a video on this. also u can put a t1 harvester in t2 dirt but it wont harvest t2 dirt as its only a t1 harvester. the plot of land in icehelm is not vertical its horizontal so the further back into the plot you go the higher tiers of dirt there is.

ahh so u can put a t1 harvester there... but it wont process t2 or t3 soil thats what im saying and icehelm is just a normal digsite.. the front 9 blocks are tier 1, the10 to16 is tier 2 and the rest is tier 3.... and like i said the tier 1 harvester will only process t1 soil.

I really like where they are going with this idea of tiered dirt, however I would LOVE if they made a few changes. I have been thinking about how to implement these ideas and even came up wit ha a chart for the different a values for everything, hell i might even try to make a mod for it. Here's my idea so far - i think the dirt should be consumable by the drills, the bedrock layers should not be consumable by the drills, rather breakable via tnt. The layers in between should be consumed below the drill by an area specified by a bounding box. Dirt would still be calculated at the level of which its being mined. So T1 bedrock, T2 bedrock, and T3 bedrock would have layers of dirt in-between that was able to be consumed by the drills. Bedrock layers would have a lower value of return since its not being eaten by the drills, lets say 30% less than the previous layer, but its not being eaten so, its a trade off. Each tier would have deeper and deeper sections of "mineable dirt" lets say 12 layers for tier 1, 15 layers for tier 2 and 20 layers for tier 3. This way as you go deeper you get better rewards, have to spend those better rewards on better gear to drill and process the deeper goods at better rates and so on. Bedrock drills would be a little different and would need to be repaired a little more often than standard, as well as the deeper you go the more of then the drills would need to ne maintained Just an idea I've been working on, I would LOVE to hear your feedback on it!!!

honestly theres been a few of of us who have spoken about the dirt and how it should be done. but its up to max and the team its how they want to do things. the next updaqte hasnt got anything to do with mining so we shall see where it goes in the future acording to max 2.2 or 2.3 which should be the next mining updates will be big but we can only guess

The terrain in icehelm is horizontal not vertical it's really messed up and confusing. (yes you can buy a dig site inside Icehelm) I have a question, what happens if I place a drill on bedrock?

im aware of icehelm iv nuked it and made a video about it. same principals apply but if you put a drill on bedrock due to depth its t3 and as we have no t3 equipment u wont be able to dig there even if you place dirt

t2 gets you bigger materials so bigger reward and when ur looking at making more t2 equipment then bigger bundles of cloutium is worth it

2 relcis in ember, 1 in mildew 1 in dreck and 2 in south hope.. in my community feed there is a guide. Also tier 3 the game has been updated in the last 2 weeks t3 is gonna be a while yet.

nope none at all, but the t2 harvester actually works where as the t1 harvester has a clogging issue that is being worked on so hopfully it will get fixed soon. but honestly t2 harvester for the win. if your building t2 has to go deep

go big or go deep the more drills u got the more cloutium u will get the deeper u go the bigger cloutium so the more u will get...... the main thing to take from this then is go big and go deep

Have you noticed the bug with the tier 2 drills? When you place them in tier 2 dirt, the spit out large chunks of dirt at first, but if you save and reload they start spitting out smaller chunks, you have to pick them up and place them again for them to spit out large chunks.

its a chunk of scrap basically u can smelt it into a bar and sell it to the jewlers its a way of making some money back from nothing really.

so yes u can dig t3 soil with a t3 shovel...... No u cant move dirt from t3 and make it work on t1. it basically becomes t1 soil if its place's in t1 zone.... this myth has been debunked so many times.

You don't lose the first piece, the new piece sometimes clips into the same place, when you collect the machine , you'll find the other one in the same place, however sometimes the new machine will fall on the floor behind the forge. I tried it with 2 tier 1 drills.

not really.. this video was made before max made some alterations to the dirt. so its light brown. then dark brown then like a really rocky substance.

So basically, each tier is 8 blocks deep from the top edge of the unminable flat areas around each plot. I was able to stack 16 blocks from the top of tier 3 to the surface.

Actually, based on my most recent try, Logic TNT will also break Tier 3 dirt, as well as the Rake. And throwable TNT doesn't even dent tier 2. So currently, I have no way to make a clean tier 2 floor with anything other than the common pickaxe. Really disappointed. This is going to take forever to clear.

currently everyone has the same issue. so best way to make a flat area is put down the concrete blocks or floors to flatten off area's to build on thats how i do it

You can use the mod for mining, it's not a cheat as the actual tnt cost 15k ish, and does the work done, otherwise i'd suggest using rake and barrels of tnt

multiplayer is done through steam if you got an issue take it up with steam as its the only one that works with hydroneer.. max spoke about it in a dev vlog about why it was the only option

not really the game ha shad less bug in this version than when hydroneer first started.. a lot of the issues that are being reported are around a few things which will be fixed its not as bad as it was even at 1.7.4 the game was more broken then than now
