Judging a hook on its looks rather than how well it works seems kinda silly ;). Having said that, I agree with your assessment of the Clover Amour EXCEPT I'd put them in the top category along with the Tulip hooks. Furls I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. Overpriced, over-hyped and the tapered shaft can make a mess of stitches with a less experienced crocheter. I will agree they are pretty, but if I don't like how they work, they go ;) I feel that those that choose a Clover over a Tulip and vice versa depends on whether you're a knife gripper (Clover works better, generally) or a pencil gripper (Tulip is probably better for you).
ok first off... GIRL regular aluminum hooks and clover amour in the same tier?? HOW?? Also, I agree about the plastic hooks. Not a fan. But I also like different kinds of hooks for different projects and different kinds of yarns. Like recently I discovered that resin hooks for chanile yarn slides like BUTTER and it's so nice to work with. Otherwise, totally agree with your rankings.
I have a set of Prym Ergonomics and I’m so relieved to find someone else who doesn’t get on with them. I was so confused when I saw so many good reviews for them. Than you so much for the honesty in this review. I will be gifting the Prym hooks and watching a lot more of your videos!
I just bought 3 in my most commonly used sizes. I wish I’d only bought one to start with as I don’t like them at all. I really like the size and shape but they really squeak and they are not smooth
They are great when i am teaching. The drag helps newbs with their tension. I love these hooks shape so much but the drag kills me! Every so often they'll work with a super smooth yarn.
I've only used boye and susan bates. I'm just now thinking of trying something new. Not a plastic fan. Really thinking new fruls streamline metal and or clover aurmor
I'd put clover armour in I'm hooked regardless of price. I've never used plastic & definitely don't intend to lol. I may have to pick up a set of tulip hooks now though.😂
I love my Pryms. I do hear them squeak especially with cotton yarn but that doesn't bother me. I like that the shaft is long, the hook is not too sharp, hook is light and well balanced for my knife hold, texture works well with the yarn I generally use and my stitching. I noticed that your faves in general have a bit shorter shaft and heavier. I also like that your picks are consistent. Except maybe I wouldn't have rated the 'unicorn' hook Furls Odyssey unless I tried it. But eh, what ifs are fun. Plastic hooks aren't for everybody.
Susan Bates and Prym are my top two. I actually love the length on the Pryms. Maybe it's because I also knit and the length allows them to sit in my hand like a knitting needle.
I have bigger man hands & the smaller Clover handles poke the inside of my palms. PRYM hooks R a gift with a knife hold. I can relate 2 how good the Clovers R & every1 loves them. It's like The having a used Toyota car. Yeah it squeaks, makes some weird noises, doesn't drive as smooth as a Mercedes, but it takes me 2 work daily & is super reliable & comfortable enough 2 drive. Sometimes good is good enough.
I just recently started crocheting and have bought several types and brands of hooks. I had a lot of problems with each of them for different reasons and almost stopped several times as a result. I ordered the Pryms due to a few reviews I saw on YT and Im glad I did. Totally different world of experience. It was like the clouds parted and the angels sang Hallelujah! LOL. They glide like butter. I now have the complete set of them. My next purchase will be a set of the Clover Amours.
I love my black gold Tulip Etimo… the quality of the entire hook, smoothness of the metal and comfort of the handle is amazing! For reference, I have fairly small hands and learned on old, aluminum Bates hooks.
I love Prym but I think maybe it depends on what you make. I make a lot of amigurumi. I do love Clover Amour, Odyssey is phenomenal and so are the furls streamlines. I haven’t tried the tulip etimo but I do have that red in my wishlist because it’s beautiful! ❤
Growing up in the 70s, when I learned to crochet I was definitely in the Boye camp and NOT Susan Bates. As I’ve gotten older I’ve tried to move to a lighter weight hook to help with my hand and wrist issues. I am a plus size woman with larger hands. My current fave are the Clover Amour hooks. I bought the whole set at JoAnn using coupons. Actually I bought 2 sets that way. Yesterday I received a Tulip Etimo Red hook, K/6.5mm, from Amazon. I like it but I’m not sure I like it better than the Clover Amour. I have to use it for a while to decide. I have some Furls hooks, 3 kinds. I need to use them some more to know how I really feel about them. Since I’m headed to Michaels this afternoon, I’m going to pick up a Prym hook and a Loops & Threads ergonomic aluminum hook to try out.
I think the thing with the soft touch isn't that there's anything wrong with it.....I find the name is misleading. When it says soft that's my expectation. It is hard and doesn't have any cush to it.
🧶Agree with a lot of this ! I haven’t used all these hooks (all the I’m hooked category 😂 ). I love the clover amour hooks, especially the aluminum smaller ones, but I don’t get why the larger hooks are plastic? Like give me big metallic clover amour hooks 😅 The clover amour and prym ergonomics are the best plastic hooks I’ve used, but I would avoid plastic hooks all together if I could. I also picked up the crochet lite hook before, thinking it was such a cool concept and it just didn’t work. The hook is too blunt and the light just doesn’t help. But I would go for a light up hook that works.
Hello fellow crocheter . My personal opinion Summary For crochet plastic is weak, wood is slow, metal is god For knitting at least for me metal is worst, plastic is ok, wood is best . on most hooks metal flies easy Great for crocheting bad for knitting. easy to control Hooks are strong so you don't feel like you're going to snap it Needless not so much. plastic hooks feels flimsy, cheap, and sticky, Knitting needels t least the ones I've used which where where acrylic felt nice. the only thing is that it warms up quicker imo but now being warm just feels better with more regulated not hot as metal thing . And wooden crochet hooks sound kind of like a night mare I can see them being very good for strength and just wait but I feel like it would hold the stitches too much i like to glide But actually the same reason why I like wood for knitting it makes me a lot less likely to drop stitches especially if I'm working with 4 needles or more I know there's cats but also if I'm working on something very small like socks the feel sturdy.
Agreed. Inline hooks are the way to go and it’s so hard to find ones that aren’t Susan Bates. I do love the Susan Bates! I just wish there were more options for us.
The furls streamline is inline. The odyssey appears more hybrid in hand. Clover amour are hybrids. Clover larger plastic hooks are inline. Ommi hooks are inline, and excellent. Inline lover here too ❤ Can use hybrids but can't use tapered. Hope this helps. I always wonder why creators doing reviews leave out if hooks are inline or tapered...or hybrid 🤔
I've always used the six inch long steel/aluminium hooks, because of the way I hold my hook ( more like a pen) I can't use the silicon handle / furls type hooks , and I've tried)
I was surprised I really loved inline hooks because in the beginning, I hated them...lol. But as I got used to them, I loved the uniformity they gave my stitches. I have many sizes of the Susan Bates Silvalume ergo hooks and use them A LOT! I do love tapered hooks too though, namely Clover Amour, which I like just as much. ;)
I actually can’t stand the Clover Amour hooks. Those are the ones I use the least overall. I never reach for them if I don’t have to! I’m also an inline fan, so I’m actually on the verge of purging all my Boye and Clover and other tapered hooks because I just don’t use them. I also hate the light up one! For the same reason I also hate the plastic hooks because there is so much friction and drag on them. It’s a bummer because I’m struggling to find some of the jumbo hooks that are metal. Jumbo, metal AND inline? I might as well give up. 😭
🧶 Love this video! I feel like I am the only person on Earth that doesn't like Furls 🤷🏼♀️ but I am a pencil holder and I think that is a big reason. My favorite hooks are the Clover Amour.
Susan Bates was my first crochet hook because my grandma always used them. They are a great beginner set for sure- but once you decide you are hooked in crochet and will always crochet- you will find yourself trying other hooks and seeing the difference I upgraded to clover amour and tulip- I’ve knocked minutes off my time per row. I fly through rows now. They are sooooooo smooth! There is much more drag with the Susan Bates- So you will definitely want to upgrade to a better crochet 🧶 and it’s worth it if you are crocheting a lot
16:47 this is my favourite hooks. I have a genetic condition thet makes crafts difficult . It is very light and long and thet makes more of a difference for me with my condition then the small amount of friction . Tldr: i have crappy monkey fingers so " normal" hooks just don't work so well
🧶I enjoyed your review and I must say I agree with you on most of them. I’m not much of a Furls fan though and I only have 2 I think. The Odyssey is beautiful however I found it to be much too heavy to use so it just sits here looking pretty. I do love the Tulip hooks though. My first set was the pink ones and they😅 my go-to hooks along with the Clover Amour. I would love to see you do a review on the counting hook sets if you haven’t already done so. I just came across your channel and haven’t seen all your videos yet. Keep up the great reviews!
I have three Prym hooks that I have used occasionally and I don't love them either. I do like the handles, but not the head. It does drag some to me, and depending upon the yarn, it bothers my hand (I have arthritis). I always end up using Clover Amour hooks because they're easier on me. I would love to try the Tulip red hooks some day, I don't have any of those.
I find my Furls resin hooks drag a little when using a yarn that has any acrylic or other manmade fiber in it. I also think the head is a little too rounded and the throat is not deep enough. I have ordered their new metal hooks and have high hopes for them, tho! I do like the Clover Amour because I prefer metal hooks, but again, the throat is a little too shallow so I have some trouble working stitches. I do like the feel of the handle. As for Prym, I love the shape of the hook head. Just pointy enough and the throat is deeper. I generally prefer more of an in-line shape, as I learned to crochet using Susan Bates hooks. The Prym head is like a combination of inline and tapered. I find that the Pryms slide pretty easily and don’t squeak if I’m using a natural fiber and I like the feel of the hook in my hand. My more than two cents worth!
Crochet Lite might be decent for working in low-light conditions with thicker yarn but they're not fit for purpose for amigurumi (mine snapped). It's a real shame because having a hook that highlights small, dark stitches sounds fantastic in theory - they're just too fragile.
I love the Clover Amour hooks. I have yet to try the Tulip Etimo, but I've been curious to try them. I only have one Prym Ergonomic hook (size 6) and I HATE it so much. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I also have a Clover Soft Touch and I'm not a big fan of that one either. I think the actual hook head is too small for my liking.
The Clover soft touch seems great but, MAN, they’re ugly! It’s like a 1970s puke matte gold. Yarn artists (and normal people) like pretty things, and these hooks are absolutely NOT attractive, despite being solid hooks with great handles for an affordable price. Maybe it’s how they sell the more desirable Amors. (I LOVE my A,our hooks though I wish they’d make the metals in larger sizes.) They really should use a more pleasing color handle at very least, preferably the whole hook from top to bottom should be the same shape but more visually appealing, and they’d be *substantially* more popular! I just don’t understand. Just one gal’s opinion.
Loved this video. I learned to crochet about 17 years ago, but I'm just picking it up again. So much has changed! Well except for the Susan Bates Aluminum hooks lol. I think your ranking was pretty spot on... Except for the Loops and Threads Ergonomic Aluminum Hook. I will say that I really liked this hook when I bought it, but after using it about 5 times, the hook started to twist in the handle (if that makes sense) since I hold my hook like a knife I like to put my thumb on the indented spot on the handle. So when the hook started twisting it was making it difficult to crochet with it. I would have put this in the Cro-Shame category. I replaced it with a Yarnology Aluminum hook, not the one you reviewed in the video. It's the Ergonomic Crochet Hook. Some things I liked about it are: Price! It' was only $1.99 I also like that the size of the hook was embossed into the hook and wont rub off like my Loops & Threads hood did. So annoying, when that happened I couldn't remember what size the dang hook was. It also just feels nice in my hand. I know how you feel about Yarnology, but I encourage you give this one a try. :) I have purchased a Clover Amour hook that everyone loves, but haven't taken it out of the package yet. lol
I dont like Prym. The texture of the shaft feels like a magic eraser to me. I recently sold my Tulip Etimo reds and Clover Amour because i thought i prefered a longer hook like the Susan Bates Sivalume Soft Ergonomic, but after getting more into plush yarn, I have decided to re-buy the Clover Amour. I decided against rebuying the Tulip Etimo red as i found i always put my thumb on the hump on the handle instead of down from it.
I dont like Prym either. Far to squeaky and grippy. I used to like Clover Amour and Tulip Etimo but they are too short for me and used to irritate the palm of my hand. I then found Susan Bates Soft Touch, but I've found them hit and miss with quality. So i decided to sell my Clover and Tulip and decided to explore the many crochet hooks out there. That's when i found out i dont like Pryms.mits a shame because the handle and shape are perfect. I am currently slowly adding to my Furls sreamline collection as i really love those, especially with chenille/blanket yarn. But right now as we soeak im awaiting delivery of some WeCrochet Dots hooks as i hear they are similar to Clover Amour but longer. I'm keeping everything crossed that they're my 'Goldilocks' hooks 🤞
I bought the Prym ergonomic hook (4mm) because it was plastic, I was going on a multi-leg international trip, and I didn’t want to risk my hook getting confiscated by overzealous airport security. I didn’t mind it until the freaking hook tip broke within weeks of use 🤦🏻♀️. Metal for me!
I watched a review about Prym Ergonomics hooks and they said that the sets had a gloss finish but the individual hooks had a matt finish. Could this be why some people love them and others don't? I'm a Clover Soft Touch fan, and always use them for my projects.❤ Great video and so helpful!
Love your Tier Ranking videos and the tier names. Please do more!!!! Also, do you know use wooden hooks. I am a fan of them, really light weight. I have furls and some that I bought off of Amazon.
Clover soft touch would be great if ONLY THEY WERE LONGER! They are way too short and after a while I have to massage my hand because of how the handle digs in. Prym is the only plastic hook I will use. It’s so funny because you hate the drag, which I get I hate drag too. But you are okay with holding rubber??? You even call it eraser texture! I can’t. It’s like touching microfiber. Overall I love the furls wooden hooks for the way they feel in my palm, but I wish the tips weren’t as sharp. I have yet to find my holy grail hook.
Furls Streamline Metal is superb (minus price) - infinitely superior to the Odyssey. Also, I love Tulip Etimo hooks. I taught myself using Boye hooks. They are a good standard and get the job done.
I used to use just Susan Bates until I tried the Clover Amour Hooks, and then realized just how terrible Susan Bates Hooks are. I got rid of all my hooks and bought all Clover Amour. Love them so much. They glide so smoothly.
I’m kinda disappointed in my Furls metal hooks. I waited over 2 years for those things and they definitely not my first choice. I found myself buying 3 clover amour hooks because, they fit my hand, they twirl good, they are not heavy and i like colors. I have 6 furls I’d trade for Clover amour. Prym, was ok but something just didn’t fell right. The wooden furls, defiantly not a good choice, has grippy issues. I like metal because it has just enough slide and long handles that don’t cut off at the palm. I’ll never buy those light up plastic hooks because, they are just toys.
I have the entire sets of Prym and love love them, I don’t use them with cotton bcuz not all hooks are for every fiber. I have absolutely zero drag and maybe that’s due to the fact that I clean all my hooks b4 using them. Yes, maybe clean the hook w/alcohol, an old tshirt, warm soapy water or even wax paper, all these things remove excess residue. 🧶🧶🧶🧶
Good morning! As I watch this video, I am crocheting with a Hobby Lobby “luxury” hook. It is a favorite if your yarn is splitting on u. I dislike totally Clover Soft touch. As a pencil holder, it is way too short. Have a good day
I have watched your video twice, as I find this topic very interesting. I think the preference in hook also depends on your crochet style, maybe. I am still a novice in this game, though, so I am not experienced enough to have an opinion. I use a pencil hold when I crochet, and from what I understand it is not the most common one? Most videos I see are with knife hold 🧶🧶 I am tempted by Clover soft touch and Clover amour to see the difference between them. They are easily available where I live. Tulip Etimo not so much. I have used a cheaper brand so far that works just fine, but my curiosity is alive and well 😊 Thanks again 😊
‘Nails on a chalkboard’ - exactly. Wasted money on buying three Pryms recently. I can’t stand that squeak and it’s not smooth to use. I do really like the shape though so I’m really disappointed that it didn’t work. My clover amour is the smoothest to work with but as you kind of hint at, there’s nothing exciting about it. My husband is a wood turner so we’re experimenting putting a good hook in a wooden handle so I’m going to get him to do that with the clover
My absolute favorite crochet hooks are the Tulip etimo (thinking of finally buying myself a full set for this mothers day haha) and my least favorite that I have ever tried was the Prym as well 😂 I wanted so badly to like it but It is exactly how you said “nails on a chalk board”. Can’t stand plastic crochet hooks, they bend easily too haha. Metal all the way for me
Give me Prym crochet hooks every time. Hooks with shorter handles dig into the side of my palm. I can hold a Prym with a very loose grip which keeps my hand nicely relaxed. I couldnt get on with the Tulip, Clover not too bad.
🧶As a new crocheter, you've given me some thought on where to go with my next hook purchase. Thank you! I absolutely MUST have one of the Furls hooks, they are so pretty!! I get what you're saying about the Prymm hooks. The "squeak" (not really a squeak, but the best way I can describe what it feels like) of the drag doesn't bother me as much as I would expect it to, and I like everything else about it so I'm overlooking the downsides for the good, but I can definitely see how a lot of people might not be able to use it for that reason. I have found that I don't like the thin aluminum hooks, because I tend to grip them too tightly and it hurts my hands when I'm crocheting but have definitely added a few more to try out.
Clover soft touch are my absolute favorite the flatness of the handle really helps my hands I found that the thicker hooks actually hurt my wrists and hands more coupled with the smoothness I haven't found with very many others except maybe a few of the old susan bates i inherited
Does anyone know of anything like the Tulip but longer? I've got big hands and I love the way the Tulip feels and moves but I wrecked my hand the other night with how short it is
The biggest waste of money in hooks ive ever spent is furls. They are to long and clank on the table. My hand slides down the neck until Im holding the head. They are so round they roll in my hand like a pencil. The Ommi hooks are exactly the same as the furls in all aspects. The Ophire is a shorter hook so fits my hand better but it also rolls. The old Susan Bates and Boye hooks are good in all aspects but aren't ergonomic in size. The new Susan Bates and yarnology hooks are okay. Prym are good. It's just they are European and not well known inthe states. I bought the KXK lighted hooks. I find them the most comfortable to use and they light up the work well. I find myself going to them more and more. So far any hook I've uesd causes hand pain after a couple of hous stictching.
I love the soft touch hooks. I have a small hand and use the pencil grip and these fit 😊perfect. I totally don’t understand the Furls craze. Yeah when they were being handmade in his garage for his wife. That was awesome. But now I suspect most of the hooks are made in China. Just goes to prove money is more important than pride in what you do. But that is cool. I am not here to knock the fact people love Furls I just think it’s sad what they have become.
I bought 3 Furls resin hooks and I really love the feel of them, too. However, I have a bad tendence to drop my hooks and when this happened with one of these hooks, the head broke off. I was really disappointed in that and now I am scared to use the last 2, so they just stay in their holder.
I know im late here, lol. I bought some tlyarn on eBay and found a Prym hook tucked inside the ball. I do not like that hook. I absolutely understand, and i also agree with you on it. It drags something horrible. Im just glad I didn't have to pay for the hook. I do really love the Furls streamline metal hooks.
I agree with you on the Prymcrochet hooks- not fun to work with. My favorites are the Susan Bates aluminum! I have tried the clover soft touch and amour and simply did not like the hook style or the slight drag.
🧶 my fav hooks are the clover amour, and after previously trying store brands like yarnology the difference was like night and day and made the experience much more fun. I def wanna try the tulip etimo hooks though they just look so pretty!
Clover Amour is amazing! I totally agree, the right crochet hook makes crocheting much more fun (: The look of the tulip etimo is one of my favorites for sure! Thanks for watching!
I have some sensory processing issues and as soon as you mentioned the prym, I cringed.when I first bought two of them to try out, I really liked them then the next time I came back to them a while later I couldn’t do it. There’s a sound and a texture vibration I feel when I use them and I don’t like it at all. I’m making my neurodivergent about to have a melt down face just thinking about it, that’s how bad they are for me.
about the prym ergonomics, i bought it so long ago and i've only used it a couple times and i hate it, and idk if it was the type of yarn i was using but it kept squeaking and it irritated me so much, and the dragggg i hated it, i only use it when i cant find any other hook that's the same size
May I ask, since you said you like the clover soft touch, which is suppose to be similar, what didn’t you like about tulip? I was thinking of getting them since I like clover soft touch but they are too short for my palm.
@@PunkHime89 the Etimo is slightly stockier and about 3-4 mm shorter the soft grip is not soft and more of a dense rubber. The hook itself (although beautiful) is not the quality I expected. The hook tip where the beak of the hook meets the stem (lol I’m calling it a stem 🤷🏼♀️) it is as if it was bent and then finished in the deep red tone because it’s under the beak itself shorting the grip of the hook considerably. And it is consistent throughout the set. I REALLY wish I could show you pictures so you can see the shotty craftsmanship . I don’t understand why they are so expensive or popular. Although I must confess they are beautiful, they are not the quality hooks they are advertised in my own opinion. I hope this helped you to decide. But please don’t take my word perhaps buy a single hook, I wish I had done that.
@@TheChroniclesOfYarnia if it’s shorter than clover soft touch, I’ll take your word for it. I really can’t stand how short that one is, so even if the craftsmanship was amazing, it would be too painful on my palms to use. Maybe I’ll try one hook like you said just to get it out of my system. Thank you!
I must respectfully disagree with you on aluminum hooks… the brands head shapes differ drastically and depending on your hold that can make a huge difference
I don't agree with your opinion on the Furls streamline, I was so disappointed in this crochet hook, it is sooooo heavy. And I did want to love this crochet hook.
Good video! Part of the reason why I love the Clover Amour hooks is because of the hook part itself. I love the tapered hook and have a very difficult time with the inline hooks like the Susan Bates ones. That really informs which hooks I love. I have a hard time with any bamboo hooks as well as the wood for the same reason -- especially bad if it's humid. Haven't tried many hook brands because I love the Clover Amour but on my Christmas wishlist is always one of the Furls hooks. :)
I was able to get 1 furls odyssey hook it is my absolute favorite. If you get one you will see how the yarn glides off the hook. I swear my crochet time is faster when I use it
I'm fairly new to crocheting and started with Woobles hooks, which was my baseline for hooks. I bought a different size clover amour simply because the store had it and was floored at the difference! Then I thought maybe I should try something else and picked up a PRYM and it was awful. I can not even hold that thing. Definitely nails on a chalkboard feeling when I use it. I would love to find more other than clover to use, but am nervous to spend money and end up with something like PRYM again. 🧶
I'm a clover and tulip girl so easy to use but I have tried the pretty hooks like ommi and like those but in Australia postage to get them here is insaine
QUESTION: Does anyone else notice a difference in glide between the Tulip in PINK vs the tulip in RED? I find that the pink glides so much smoother than the tulip RED, which I feel glides like the clover soft touch and drags a little… WHEREAS the tulip pink feels like the clover amour and has a much smoother glide… You can’t tell me the only difference is the color?! They feel so different! ALSO- Knife gripper here- does anyone else find that the handle on the tulips irritate their thumbs????
I've only got the Etimo Red and I love the smoothness of then working with cotton - for me they feel much smoother than my Clover Amours - though I prefer the Amour grips. Another reviewer of the pink Etimo set put them in a par with Clover Amour, so I've always assumed the reds were smoother. If the pinks are even smoother, I want to try! I'm currently working with a mohair and silk mix for a shawl and am still finding the Tulips smoother than Clover, though with more drag than cotton. However, I've swopped to my Clover Amours for this project because the protruding hook on the Tulips is really catching on certain stitches. Never noticed it before doing Amigurumi, but now I recognise that the hook on the Tulip protrudes beyond the width of the shaft in a way that the Amours don't, and that is making them awkward on this project. Horses for courses, I guess.
I currently have clover armour hate the fact that they turn into plastic after a size 6 😢 think I'll order 1 tulip etimo with my next yarn order to try it out. Loved this video 🫶
For my taste, the Furls are completely overrated. It's crazy to spend $80 (USD) or more on a crochet hook that also contains nickel. The criteria for this evaluation are not clear to me either. At Clover Amour, - nickel-free and from the high-tech, high-price country of Japan - where you can get a set of 8 needles for $60, you say they are overpriced for beginners. But not Furls? Especially when it comes to the Streamline, I don't understand why they are ranked at the top, but the Prym comes in last, even though both are made of plastic. Yes, polyresin is also plastic, it's even cheaper then the Prym plastic. The Prym is of higher quality, also has a rubber coating and costs a fifth. In short: your table is nice, but your evaluation criteria are anything but objective.
Hi! I filmed this video a few months ago and I would agree furls streamline have moved down my ranking. This video was just for fun and based on my personal preference. I can definitely make a more concise video on hooks in the future ❤️
My favorite hooks are the Clover Amour. I love how they just slide through the yarn. The only downside is that I wish that they were a little bit longer. Sometimes, if I've been crocheting a lot, it feels like the end is rubbing on my hand & it's irritating. My second favorite are the Prym hooks and I love the length and the way that they fit in my hand. The Prym do drag a little on some yarns, but glide fairly well through others. I believe that it is a personal choice. We are all different people and have different outlooks on things.
I can not agree more! I have the tulip set and I LOVE it. And yes , the Prym is the worst hook on earth! I tried them and I had exactly that nails on a chalkboard feeling, I couldn’t even finish a swatch, it was that bad 🫣
The crochet lite is like trying to crochet with a glow stick. It illuminates too much of it It needs to just be the tip I bought it cause black yarn is so hard to see!!
I use Prym hooks. I love the aesthetic of it and it's light weight feel on hand, which is great cuz i like switching between pencil-hold and knife-hold. Only cons would be the long hook-shafts for smaller sizes as others in the comments mentioned. Other youtubers mentioned the drag and yarns being caught on shafts cuz their hook had a rough finish. But i have 2 whole sets of Prym Hooks, and all of mine are smooth and doesn't drag. (I do want to try the Clover Soft and Etimo for it's smaller sizes one day to compare).
I first got my Crochet Lite from HL. I LOVED THEM so much! The light is awesome and helps you with dark yarns. I doubled down and bought an interchangeable lighted set from Amazon..which are made out of resin and the handle has 2 settings. I really love them, but when I bought a Furls Resin Streamline? Yeah, the lighted set is packed away. I am a Susan Bates girl, I still have my original set, but I can’t use them anymore because they are too thin in my hand. Tulips are pretty and people love them, but they hold the same problem for me as the Clover knock offs: too small of a handle and just expensive for no darned reason in my book. I have 2 Yarnology hooks and they are the huge sizes and I only use them with certain blanket yarns, other than that they are okay. I don’t own Pryms, or Clover traditional hooks. And L&T is Michael’s attempt to get in on the hook game to compete with Susan Bates and Boye, so I wouldn’t touch them, but do recommend them for beginners. I now own a set of Clover Takumi Interchangeable Tunisian hooks and I love them for Tunisian. I just found you today. I am happy I did 🧶🧶🧶🧶
