Exactly! I suffered through 11 years of metronome exercises, boring arpeggios, and not playing with my friends to play this in 9th grade. Yes, it takes talent, but nobody just sits down and plays this piece.

I find it extremely snobbish that some of you disrespect those who are here because of Tom & Jerry or Bugs Bunny. The creators of those shows knew exactly what they were doing. Exposing children to great classical music. The fact that they come here today as adults to listen again is a testament of their appreciation of the classics and hopefully will be exposed to more.
@serban031
@serban031 2 года назад
Some people just need to find a way to feel better somehow, forgetting that for most people, popular media of some kind is how they get into classical music of any kind. I think Benjamin Zander made the point that a lot of the musicians themselves always perform with the idea that just 1% of all music listeners will listen to classical, and they have this sort of snobbish antipathy and resignation instead of trying to be cheerful that a, they have an audience, and b, that they have the opportunity to grow it. My words, not his. He's a lot nicer and funnier about it.

@randykern1842
@randykern1842 5 лет назад
As a pianist I can tell you she’s not feeling a “high” while she plays. Playing music takes a toll emotionally and it is extremely difficult. Nothing about it is fun for the musician, we do not space out during performances. It’s extremely focused work that is about as tedious and nerve wracking as performing surgery. If your just playing the same 4 chords over and over again in isorhythmic fashion (pop, rock, blues, jazz) it’s a different story. Then you can space out and get “high”. Not when you play Liszt or anything complex
@raulperez2308

@@randykern1842 as a piano student i can tell you i do get a huge adrenaline rush whenever i play live, and that might well be the high OP is referring to. admittedly i can't play pieces like this yet, but the stuff i do play is pretty complex to me, therefore i get all the boiling blood and stuff because of nerves. and i'm pretty sure most people goe through similar experiences whenever performing. also, did you really say jazz is the same 4 chords played with the same rhythm and no complexity to it? you clearly don't play it lmao

She plays it very cleanly. Not too fast nor too slow. Best version I've heard so far. Horowitz is playing a different version of this, so I'm not judging that. I much prefer Poon's interpretation to Lisitsa's version, which somehow sounds like full of errors. Lang Lang is too eccentric and his interpretation is a bit too 'crazy'.

So I cannot say which one is the best, and I don't want to, because I think it is a silly thing to do. There are so many different ways to play a piece. I didn't realize I made the comments below four years ago, but I just watched this performance again and enjoyed it even more than last time. Well done, Tiffany! Keep up the good work!
