Hi Jessica, nice to see you back again. Too bad for the long wait. The weather there looks much better than what we had in Muskoka today, started out at 5°C in the morning then tanked to 1°C with snow flurries and ice pellets. Yucky. I'l take Van weather any day.
I don't know if you got any of my comments, but I will send you another. I like your attitude on when you get the surgery with doctor Bashard, one year is nothing. He is the best, he did mine 9 years ago. I know they have a different recovery place then when I was there, but I'm sure your experience will be as nice as mine. One word: Bureaucracy! It's actually about a year's wait here in the US. Many insurance plans are starting to cover it but no SRS doctor takes the insurance payments. It's out of pocket and then pray for reimbursement which is typically rather poultry and the reason why surgeons in general don't like the insurance, medicare, or Medicaid.
I have the same anxiety about what's between my legs. It often stops me from meeting people before I even try. Which is a shame, I know. Its one thing for other trans people to be cool about that, but I would really like to meet more cis girls and guys who are just a cool with it ya know? For some reason that has a much more profound effect on me when I am accepted by my cis peers. I'm still in a very awkward phase now anyway. My body fat is just starting to redistribute a little and my boobs are getting sore. The softer skin, smaller pores, less oil, less acne, less body odour, improved mood and psychology in general... these things are all contributing to a better attitude for me. At one time, I thought it was hopeless. Continuing to watch your progress kinda eases the dissonance for me. Just knowing that its possible is enough to keep pushing forward. I don't think most of us want to be Trans. I never did. I just want my body to reflect my heart and mind.

Dear Tiffany...to clarify, Dr. Brassard was not my surgeon in 1993...it was Dr. Menard, who botched my lower eyelids, and almost caused my bladder to burst, in the orchiectomy, with engorged urine caused by a blocked neo-urethra, which upon my return to Syracuse NY, thankfully, a crack-team of specialists corrected a near-tragic situation. Woo! Yay Jessica Tiffany! I am toying with the idea of saving extra for my srs (long way off) and coming to Canada or US for it- so I can also visit some online trans friends before hand. I was thinking it would be cool to perhaps even film the road trip as a doco and try maybe interviewing vloggers who inspired and helped me transition. Could be an adventure! I would love to meet you one day babes!
Hi Jessica, Thank you for the update. There's a rumour going around the trans community in BC that the reason the waiting list is so long is that transhealth is stalling on approvals to see Brassard for GRS. Like you say in your vlog, either there are more applicant than approved applicants or somebody is stalling. I wonder if that is the case... When you finally get your SRS assessment at coastal health, do you think you could let us know? I am working with Trans Alliance of BC to get some metrics, and you are a perfect person to use to trace progress :-) By the way, have you heard that gender markers on drivers license and MSP (health insurance) data stops being limited to post-SRS people as of 15 November in BC? I have a copy of the forms if you or anyone needs it... Your vlogs are truly fantastic and inspirational, you rock star. Thank you for going through this huge effort to put them out there. Morgane
A friend of mine who as affected by this ( I live in BC also ) mentioned that the only people who are allowed to do the assessments had been pushing them through for a long time even while the government had not been allocating the promised money to Transhealth. In other words, they were working for free as long as possible while being patient for funding. They have had enough. I would too. It seems to have brought attention to the issue though... finally!
I'll let you guys know when I have my appointment with the psychologist and find out what's going on! I called the Ministry of Health about the psychologist's office not calling me back or picking up their phones but they didn't give me any answers at all. They just told me to keep calling them. I just wish someone could give us some info. I was almost thinking that making me call back over and over was part of a test to see how much I wanted the surgery lol...
Sounds about like the run-around ive been getting trying to start hormones! the doctor nearest to me said he wanted to check to see if any other doctors were nearer to me before he'd schedule an appointment. Over a month and i havent heard back yet.
Well yay, Tiffany! Glad you're going thought with surgery! Lots of hoops which sort of sucks, but you're on your way with the final step. Although I know what you mean about how you feel now as a woman to yourself and others. To your circle of people, it doesn't really matter, it's just down to what you'd like to do. Im taking a 1½ years of thinking about this. I think that thinking too much, you will most likely end up with a wrong decision or at least the wrong reason to the right decision, wiich is almost just as bad as i see it.. hence 1½ years..
“Everyone sees you as a girl” . . . some of my biker buddies come over every week to my house to watch SOA. Oddly enough after watching the episode where Tiggs gets a hard on for Venus I played your vlog #30 (no sound, full screen) and asked them to try and figure what you were saying. After a couple of attempts to figure what the heck you were talking about they started to ask who is SHE, what’s HER name, where is SHE from . . . once the cat was out the bag they threaten me with a brotherly can of whop ass, but in the end we all got drunk and had good laugh over the whole thing. Cheers!!!
8 months to see the shrink and 4 months for the surgery seems like the shrink says no to many people. That or they don't care, and make people wait for the hell of it. I mean not telling you, you were already on the list is rude as hell. It's a shrink, and their office they deal with people in mental pain and not telling someone they even made it on a list can cause anxiety.
Jessica, I'm so glad you've reached your decision. I know in a video a while back, you were talking about a SRS video you'd seen and were disturbed about the procedure. I think I saw the same one, but had a much different reaction. I saw a great advance in technique from the older ways, one that provides for a much greater chance of enjoying sex. The older techniques often led to T-girls not having much sensation. I'd bet the video was of one of the T-women surgeons. They have a better idea of what's needed. Best of luck. And I don't think you need to do anything to your face. It's really changed with your hormone treatments and you're beautiful!
Thanks, I appreciate your input but Dr. Brassard is one of the best in the world. I know you said in a previous comment that there were complications with your surgery, but I've also heard about complications from the surgeons in Thailand. Most people who go to Brassard seem to be happy with their results, and for me it will be paid for by our medical system, so I'm going to him.
girl SRS is great. well not the first week or two but afterwards it really is. i know after i had it my life got so chill. plus if your with a guy then well um.. the sex is awesome. haha
