TIG Welding Rod Rack, Pulse Settings, Speed Tacking and more

I made a tig welding rod rack and needed some simple brackets to mount it on the wall. see the full article goo.gl/P3IX21 or visit the store here goo.gl/mJkDww So in this video I made some brackets out of 14 ga cold rolled steel. I used a technique I call "speed tacking" along with aluminum chill blocks, pulse settings, and a Furick 12 pyrex cup.
Lots of tips in this video so lets get to it.

I spend of lot of time on this channel as a self taught tig welder. So I make sure to spend a little time and money at the weldmonger store. I really appreciate all of the free knowledge and experience that you share on here.

Hey Jody, I build custom furniture, and much of my welding education has been from you and Chucke2009. What I can't seem to find on youtube, strangely, is much of anything about the fabrication part of welding. Tons about the beads, and almost nothing about best practices for fabrication. What welds to hit first, how best to clamp complicated frames, how to combat warping, etc. My beads are plenty good enough for what I do, but what kicks my ass is getting things clamped up and tacked and welded clean without shit getting all the hell out of square. So I, for one, am asking for more content like that. As far as I'm concerned you're the best source for it.

Your pyrex cup revealed a unique gas lens configuration. My early experience with these were similar to an aerator used on a water faucet. Since it was in the mid 60's my memory is vague, but I remember only 1 very fine screen as a diffuser, that was incorporated in a module that threaded into the collet adapter threads of the torch. What I think I see on yours is more like a very coarse steel wool. Do they work better than the old ones? I quit using mine because of added cost and limited performance improvement.

Very good videos :-) But a few questions regarding the chill blocks. I want to produce stainless steel containers for galvanic purposes of 300x200x250mm size build of 1mm 1.4301 sheets. So I will have to use some sort of cooling to get perfect boxes. 1. Don't the aluminium chill blocks weld with the stainless steel? Aluminium has a melting point much below steel so I wonder if there is no sticking. Or is the conductivity so high that there is no problem? 2. Copper has a higher conductivity - but it is also much more expensive. Can I get my wished boxes by staying with aluminium? 3. What's about an active cooled "chill block frame" for my boxes? I think of some bores through the block and then pumping water through them. Is this effort worth it? Thank you guys :-)

@weldingtipsandtricks
@weldingtipsandtricks 9 лет назад
+Carlos Rodriguez settings for 11 ga would depend on the end goal in my opinion. but for similar joints as shown in this video, same settings with more amperage would work...20% on both pulse time and background, 1-2 pps, I used about 105-110 amps for the welding on carbon steel on 14 ga. That might work ok, but I would think amperage would be more like 125 for 11 ga stainless using pulse. with a foot pedal, I would set amperage up around 150 and just read the puddle and press pedal until I got the size puddle I wanted
