I didn't like ADV motorcycles...until I rode one. They truly are the Swiss army knife of the motorcycle world. I test rode the 1200 and ended up with the 900 GT Pro. I saved 50 lbs. in weight over the 1200, and about $4000 US. For solo riding, the 900 is the perfect size for me. If I were to ride two up, I would definitely buy the 1200. The quick shifter takes a bit of getting used to. I've owned a lot of motorcycles, but never one with a quick shifter. I was hesitant to even use it at first--it didn't seem natural shifting gears without using the clutch. I do find that my Tiger shifts perfectly as long as I keep the rpm above 4000. No ADV bike will ever win a beauty contest, but for comfort and all around riding nothing else compares. Ride safe.
I'm considering getting an Adv..as a second bike... can't let go of the R18 Transcontinental for standard riding..but off-road...the Triumph is brilliant 😊
I can remember one of your vlogs you saying that bikes are like tools which i found excellent adv bikes are excellent tools the looks are of course another matter of opinion ,
Hi, I traded in my Sport Glide for the GT Pro last year. It's not so nice as the FLSB, but the brakes, suspension and lights are much better. The Motor is faster, but makes trouble at low rpms. Re the Quickshifter, you are right, it depends on the rpms e.g. if you increase the rpms, the upshifting is smooth. A lot of Greetings from Germany
Thats not quite how the preload adjustment feature works. It does not lower automatically. You have to press and hold the Home button for two seconds. It raises automatically after 80 km/h and stays there until you manually lower it again with the Home button. And I dont think you can do that unless you're going below 20 km/h (?)
I must admit that if it had not been for the Pan America Special (2023), I would have settled in nicely with the Tiger 1200 GT. True Story. Both of the instructors for my Intermediate MSF course rode the Tiger 1200; fabulous motorcycle, and as you say ticks all the boxes... but, the Pan America Special (2023) edges the Tiger out in terms of torque|reves, tech, ARH, comfort (riding position). I purchased the Pan America Special, and as they say, the rest is history (never looking back). marcus The Brits know how to make motorcycles, but they're no Harley-Davidson !
Funny. I had the opposite impression of the PA and opted for a Rally Explorer. Seating position wasn't for me at all. And all the electronics issues (no starts, especially), faulty fuel pumps scared me off of buying one. Lack of shaft drive didn't help either.
Hi Alf, this is the bike i have now. it is brilliant. The most comfortable bike i have owned. i bought the low seat and it comes heated. happy days. the lights are brilliant and you get backlit switches too.
Nice review, love these Triumph Tigers. Seriously considering the 1200 GT Pro after having ridden the 1200 Rally Pro a couple of times. I like a bit of 'soft roading' too, so still torn between the GT and Rally. Heavy bikes compared to my Tiger 800 which to be fair is great, and I can at least flat foot both the GT and Rally with the seat in the highest setting. Decisions decisions! PS ADV is (kind of) short for adventure, not sure why it gets written as an initialism (yeah, I had to look that up!). Writing or saying ADV makes no sense ;-)
I think if I was that gushing about a bike I'd ridden, I'd be paying the deposit when I got back to the dealer, but I get what you're saying about not really wanting an adventure bike. I can't get on with the looks of them, and all large capacity ADV's are too tall for me anyway. It's going to be an intriguing reveal video when you buy your next bike.
