I think the camo is so sharp…love how geometrical/tight it appears….then with the chipping and blending, it appears so realistic. Great addition with the barbed wire, too. Would love to see a real Tiger in person (well, maybe not facing one in battle :))

Nice work, looks great. I really like that you didn’t over do it with rust and weathering . Other guys over do it, their models look great. Don’t get me wrong , but the war was 1939-1945 . The war was over in six years . Some models look like they’ve been lost in the woods for thirty. My Grandfather was a tank driver in the Canadian Army, he lost five tanks from 43-45 . Most of those vehicles never lasted long enough to look that old
@ModelNerd

Thanks, I completely agree. The lifespan on many of these vehicles was very short.

The fraying of the tubing can be easily corrected by moving a flame across it quickly. If you look at the ends as it comes from Tamiya it is exactly what they did. Instructions also point out to paint before cutting. Flame worked great for me as it shrunk it a bit to fit tighter onto the plastic "piping" from the air boxes.

User this "Dazzle" camouflage on a Toyota Corolla years ago. Got so many compliments and was incredibly easy to find in a packed parking lot. Forgot all about it until I saw your video. Used this same technique to camouflage my Heng Long Tiger 1. Now it looks totally badass and lethal. Much more so than the straight grey. Thanks for the video!!

I use boiling water on sections only that need to sag.....drop the area in cup then pour still boiling water over...take out soon as steam goes and drape over tracks with some weight on,leave to cool and hey presto did it on my last tamiya panther...worked a treat and they still sag...or if you have access someone who has 3d printer and scanner,scan the links supplied in styrene then print them out and make plastic tracks. Im currently making\made 3d scale model of Jagdpanther...nearly done breaking to parts to 3d print...to make my own scale kit...good thing is you can make any scale you want...depending on how much material for printing you can afford...scale of panther will be hopefully 1 /12th

@@russouk I use a small candle to create dents and soften parts. I hold the piece close to the flame and when softened I push and manipulate the plastic. This has produced some realistic dents and bends in tanks and vehicles; especially on fenders and sponsons. I urge you to try this. I really like the effects. Thanks for sharing guys.

Great work love camouflage scem, and as goes removing outer road wheels this was done on all tiger's early and light models and thay put on transport tracks which weren't as wide so they could fit on flatbed railway Cars without hitting tunnels and anything else on the Lines and the same goes for King tigers as well.👍👍👍
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd 3 года назад
Thanks Neville. I knew about the thinner transport tracks. I feel like later Tigers and variants had generally fewer wheels too though - I seem to remember it being something to do with steel rimmed wheels which could support more weight than the rubber rimmed wheels.
@nevillecussell5513
@nevillecussell5513 3 года назад
@@ModelNerd Hi yes later tiger's had Steel rimmed road wheels and still had the same amount of road wheels as the early tigers, and because later in the war rubber was becoming rather scarce, also it's quicker and easier to build tanks with steel road wheels take a look at other tanks later in the war as thay started having steel wheels fitted.👍

Excellent results with the painting and weathering! 👏 FWIW, I like the look of the black & white splinter camo. It reinforces the idea of the Tiger I being a 'battleship on land'. 😎👍👍 FYI, I recall seeing a photo of a Panther with the 9th SS Panzer Division ("Hohenstaufen") that had a black & white winter camo that consisted of zig-zagging hard-edged lines, so the camo you chose for the Tiger I is completely out of the realm of possibility. ☺

Tiger 131 had a full set of spare tracks mounted on the front hull, the immediate post-capture photos show them clearly.
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd 3 года назад
Yep, you're right. I'm guessing one of two things: firstly, maybe the Tamiya instructions are just wrong (they are quite old). Secondly, it occurs to me that I may have read the table in reverse: I assumed a 'X' meant 'no' and a 'O' meant yes. But perhaps it could be the opposite?
@chrisjordan4210
@chrisjordan4210 3 года назад
Suspect the Tamiya instructions are misleading, they would have been better with ticks and crosses. The tank museum replaced the original spare tracks with fibreglass copies some years ago, I'm not sure if this is still the case but if there are any spares they probably want them to keep the vehicle running. I believe one possible unique feature of Tiger 131 is the step iron beneath the spare track retainer - apparently, it was a crew modification. Great model by the way, I remember building the original Tamiya version many years ago which at the time seemed fantastic compared to anything else available.

You ended up with a really fine looking Tiger, although I would like to pick a few nits. AFAIK, only one unit, S. Pz. Abt. 505 added barbed wire to their (early) Tigers during operation citadel. Also the colour scheme of Tiger 332 was never gray, according to most Tiger experts I've heard. I still enjoyed the video though.

Thanks Nordus. Fair points. It's interesting how the Tamiya instructions mention the grey but were written a long time ago (90s) and as you say, have subsequently turned out to be wrong. Incredible that we're still learning new things about these events and vehicles even today.

Ha, that's odd. I never noticed that was missing, perhaps because of the stub on the hull. Thanks, good spot.

What a useful video! I have in my collection full interior Tiger I with winter camo as well. Definetaly gonna go for similar effect when i deal with interior... i used AK paint and it cracked all the way inside the hull walls. Btw can ya tell me what could be the source of that problem?
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd 3 года назад
Thanks Michal. I'm not sure about the cracking paint. At a guess I'd say maybe the base coat or the primer wasn't fully cured?

Thought about picking this up yesterday or the day before can't remember, or was it this past weekend? but I think I'm just going to get a ryefield interior kit cuz if I'm going to build a tiger and or Panther I'm going to build one with an interior
@ModelNerd

I have the Academy Tiger with interior, which doesn't have great reviews but which I'm going to build in a damaged / destroyed state. I have the RFM Panther which looks very nice too. Although their Sturmtiger (video coming soon) fought me a bit.

Yes, you'd apply the grey, then the hairspray, then the white - and only the white would be affected by the hairspray.
