Dual clamping arm cylinders is a poor design. It allows the jaws to drift. Even a little company like Ryan's figured that out. Other than that I like tigercat stuff so far.

A little drift is a small price to pay for twice the power.

@@oldtimerf7602 You need to study up on your leverage and mechanical advantage. My Ryan's head is squeezing pressure in the neighborhood of 95,000 psi running at 58 gpm and 4400 hydraulic psi on my link belt..... no offense sir intended but there is more lever mechanical advantage with a z bar than with 2 cylinders, actually you loose with a twin cylinder set up. I have a 5 inch barrel with a 2.5 inch cylinder. On any simple hydraulic calculator at 4400 psi that figures to about 86,400 psi of push force and that is amplified with the z bar where a conventional set of dual cylinder jaws actually robs you of force because the cylinder side of the lever is about 4 times shorter than the tree side. No doubt a 95,000 pound tigercat machine made just for cutting is better than my 62,000 pound excavator based machine... BUT... the cost of mine brand new came in under 300k where the tcat is probably over twice that much. I'm in east coast planted white pine right now on a 4 million board feet job and my machine will cut over 100,000 feet per day and that doesn't account for the pulpwood. Far more than our skidders can pull. I can cut for two days then the third I can park the cutter while they catch up so I think the ol' Link Belt will suffice for now. Also my closest tcat service is 150 miles away. I like tigercat stuff, it's just not sensible for me. I was just pointing out that I can't believe everyone hasn't adopted the z bar design which Bell actually pioneered.
