They never said they were breaking up. If you read what they said, they did lose 3 members. And they said that their most recent tour was going to be the last for a while. The beginning guitar strumming on this cover specifically originally made me think of Leonard Cohen ("Goodbye Marianne" was the song i had im mind i think), it's been a decade since I listened to Cohen... I just discovered this song maybe a couple weeks ago, even though I've been aware of the band Brand New for about 10 years (an old coworker a d friend of mine used to talk about them a lot, plus his other favorite bands like Glass Jaw, Title Fight, Dozer, Tiger's Jaw?), He showed me a song by one of his favorite bands and I didn't like it. That genre/sound of post hardcore, or the new wave of pop punk, emo, sad boi Tumblr core, metal core type stuff with the "good cop/bad cop" vocals, I just don't like that stuff, and he loved it (he was also like 7 years younger than me), so there was the age gap... But man... I really love this song. It's catchy, it's heartfelt, it's just good songwriting and composition all around (and these three do a great job covering it and harmonizing in general). I need to get ahold of him and tell him I found a Brand New song that I like 😂 he'd probably say it's a poser song or something (gate keeping hipster lol).
That was awesome! I strongly dislike most RU-vid covers I come across - especially from this genre/era cuz it's usually dudes with jeans so tight their vocal pitch jumps 2 octaves, but this was spot on. Props for keeping it insanely close to the original with harmonies and all while still sounding awesome. Loved those harmonies. I've been covering this song myself on & off for years.
