Wow... when I saw the camera shot on your first load.. and the camera p.o.v. made it seem like you were descending beside the tower, I had a pucker factor moment off the scale. Very happy when the camera pointed you above the tower top. I've had to descend between trees on a mountain side to deliver logging tools... my proctologist had to remove the seat cushion. Went to a 200 ft line on next trip. Nice work and videos.. thanx.
This was by far your very best video. You were calm and collective, very professional in explanation, well-spoken and made your point across with pin point accuracy. Well done.
For other folks learning the ropes here: If you come in too low, and you are a bit slow, you will end up raising the collective to save/steepen the approach. This will make you stop. If you and the load stop, then go again, the helicopter will move forward 1st, then the load. If you are not practiced, this will lead to swinging. You are more or less forced to swing it out in front of you and follow it down into the hole. Ideally you will come in with some altitude, as you transition out of ETL you will lose that altitude, all is well though as you came in compensating for that. Unfortunately it is difficult for new guys/gals to judge altitude. The shortest line i ever fly is a 200 foot. Normally there is at least 60 feet hanging below that. It is difficult to judge altitude when you are learning initially. Some folks will tell you that you have the skills or you don't right out of the gate. And that can be somewhat true for some folks who have no business doing this type if work, but.... Depth perception and visual altitude awareness is most definitely, extremely enhanced with experience.
thanks for this! I know its not super realistic or anything but I'm a low time pilot and sometimes I fire up the sim and try and do sling loading and it all goes right to hell lol, especially so in the stopping of the load, I always try to slow down and always end up in a pendulum more or less.
Small chance that I can't get it back up, but might pull out a wire or something on the hook which has happened before. Also the guys on ground will see it if it's stuck and help out.
Great SlingTalk. Brilliant footage from Helicopter and Drone. You said it was the southern coast of Norway, can you pinpoint it any more? Maybe a place name or something please 🙏
