Practice makes perfect (usually). When I first started driving in 85 over the road, my hands would always get sweaty and my anxiety would be high when I got off the interstate and had to drive through a city. Fast forward 4 years and I drove for a small grocery chain with all of the stores in the worst areas of the inner cities between Norfolk and NY where all of the deliveries required parallel parking in loading zones on busy streets--this was all with Kenworth T-600s with single sleepers and a trailer that I forgot the length (a strange size that I believe was a little shorter than a 45 footer if I remember). Point is: after driving with them for a few months--city driving in a semi no longer concerned me.

What a clusterfu**. Standing around for 30 minutes before you are acknowledged is a waste of time. That customer needs a greeter or someone to manage all the inbound trucks. Cant be the one guy on the forklift in the green hat that already has a job to do. Good job keeping your patience and your demeanor professional- not easy in a situation like that. Also, very cool of you to take the garbage with you and not on the customers lot. 'Ol Dave The Professional Truck Driver. That's truckin' Dave!

That was pretty good. There's a place up in Rochester NY. Some beverage DC where you don't talk to anyone. You call a number, they send a text telling you where to go, and you have to go inside a building to dock, and for whatever reason, they have concrete blocks sitting against the outer wall for you to hit. Then you drop it, go park, they text you when it's done and the paperwork is in the trailer. It really wasn't that bad, but I watched a lot of people struggle with it. Some of these places we go are just insane

Unbelievable. Delivered there 20 years ago back when I worked for Fastway and I remember it because it was the biggest clusterf#@* I’ve ever seen on the inside. Every door had freight piled up to the doors. That lot you parked in at the beginning was jammed with trucks that couldnt get unloaded cause they had no room to unload them. Since it was so long ago I had trouble remembering what town it was in (knew it was Winn Dixie dc in south LA), decided to watch one last video before I hit the sack and instantly recognize the place. Though where I went were the doors to the left after your initial right past the guard shack. Thanks for the jog down memory lane!

@stevenredman1582
@stevenredman1582 3 года назад
Here's a couple hints for you and your backing process. First: Get a good look at the space you are going to back into. Are the trucks in the neighboring doors in straight? If not, that could mess you up if you are using them as a guide. Is there enough room to align yourself for a more "straight-in" attempt? Backing straight in, even if it's a longer distance, will result in fewer pull-ups to reposition. Second: If you still need to jack it in, slide your tandems all the way BACK. It's much easier to steer your trailer when the wheels are all the way back as opposed to it pivoting somewhere in the middle. Obviously, that isn't the case when driving and maneuvering around corners, so remember to put them back up at the 41' mark after you load/unload and are getting ready to leave. Third: Use the painted lines on the pavement as your guide. You already checked out the space, that should have included noting where the line goes...right to the edge of the door or a few inches (or more) to the side of the door, to the edge of the rubber bumper, for instance. Fourth: Night time backing into tight spots. Get some sort of battery powered LED light strip and clamp it onto the back of your trailer so you have enough light to see. Stop and remove it before bumping the dock, but after you are in the right line to hit the door squarely. Stay calm and laugh often.

Hi Dave, I am new to the channel within the last week or so. I am enjoying it so far. A tip on strapping the pallets is to make an X with the two straps. That way it gets the stacks more top to bottom instead of two single planes like you did.

Win Dixie saved a couple hundred thousand by not buying that extra little piece of land needed to give the trucks room to maneuver, but single handedly cost millions of dollars to trucking companies that operate for multiple companies and multiple agencies. Good to see they care that the price of your milk is now tripled in price because of their own penny pinching and that it takes them 9 hours to back a truck in and cost millions a year just because they saved 300k that one time when they built the yard

With items like a stack of pallets, I'd just find a board that are as tall as the stack and brace that against the pallets with the strap; or take down a pallet or two if no board are to be found.

Put your straps on in an X pattern and it will cover more skids. If they are short enough for ya to get across the top that is the best way. Theres no real good way to strap them like you had on that load. Just do what you can driver and it will have to work.

You can tell a new driver from an old one that’s been on for years. If he just parks it by himself and he doesn’t fix it that’s when you know he’s been on the road rules for more than a few years. But #RidingWithDave because he’s new he wants his parking to be perfect and in between the lines when there is nobody there. And if you ever go to a different company or any job interview you can tell him your strongest quality about you is that you don’t put half of an effort into your job and if they don’t believe you just show them these videos especially this one and they wash know what they’re signing with
