I'm going to admit, when I saw the video title, I was like "there's no way you've found the worst trend on TikTok". But you have. I was not counting on it to be this bad.
Oh my God thank you that someone is finally talking about this stupid trend. I keep seeing it pop up on my fyp and my ears start bleeding with the dull voices these people count in and their desperate squeals for roses or jet planes or some other shit.
When he mentioned tiktok live, I thought he was going to talk about the horrible trend of people pretending to eat maggots on stream for views that I kept seeing recently...
You can tell how fuming Ludwig is at this, I respect how irritated he gets with such an outrageous scam that no one is doing anything about. And he’s absolutely right to be. This is an insanely absurd rip off, it’s lies and theft.
Also, the amount of different currencies makes it much easier to use that money - I think Atrioc covered this pretty well in his Genshin vid, but the amount of hoops to jump to send the ‘rocket’ causes the actual monetary value of whatever it is to lose meaning. You arent losing 300$, you are just losing a ‘rocket emoji’.
There is a pretty big difference between giving people what they paid for and taking their money and not doing it. The subathon delivered what you said it would in the end. The TikToks have a very non-realistically possible goal, even if they wanted to complete it. Its a dishonest scheme from the start and they are aware of it. During the subathon when you realized there needed to be a change with time, you gave viewers the choice to vote between halfing the time each sub added, or removing gifted subs. Thats a far more honest approach to this in the first place, because it involved viewers in the decision.
I managed to have one of these pop up on my fyp right as he hit the number before whatever he was counting to, and he literally stopped, turned the camera around, and just said “put the sunglasses on me guys” (some kind of tiktok donation) until someone did and then he restarted 😭
Finally someone is talking about this. This trend is so manipulative and causes kids to give away so much money for no effort. It’s horrible and it’s been happening for months

One of the biggest differences between tiktok and other streaming platforms as well is the fact that RU-vid and twitch are very upfront on the money your spending. Yotube shows the money you spend in the chat- subscriptions on twitch are *advertized* to be only 5$. Tiktok not only doesn't show how much money is spent, but also takes it through another unessicary conversation that isn't even always accurate. Ludwig stated earlier- a dollar only gives *roughly* 66 coins. While hiding the money users spend is bad enough, not having it be a true amount and downaying their contribution is also involved. And to top the cake, you don't even spend coins. Coins are a form of currency, but useing the coins to spend on roses or planets is yet another step of almost disassociation to take people away from the real value thst they are spending.

The people who do it anonymously are the true big brain scammers. No dignity lost at least publicly, yet all the money. I mean, they probably are pathetic inside but unfortunately getting paid with no repercussions
@@puckles7585 its literally a scumbag marketing tactic to use "shiny tiktok coins" instead of real life valuta's cause it makes the barrier to spending way smaller, especially for young kids who are just dumb with money. Which doesnt have a lot to do with school systems more like life experience

ludwig's more recent video essay(?) esque content has been super interesting to me and it's been cool to feel the shift in the stuff he's putting out. like lud's analysis of internet trends and how shit works is well thought out
It's not surprising that they'd be unable to bring themself to tap that one last time. After all, they've just spent the last 5000 years on a single task. Finishing the count will leave a massive hole in their life.
I remember seeing the jet dude on live and I saw the counter and immediately thought "That's impossible". I've seen so many that are worse than this that literally guilt trip the people in chat to donate by going "If you do a jet I'll be able to pay for my late bills" or some other reason. It's honestly disgusting.

Second he’s saying that even though it’s not going to affect chompy, but it makes you more inclined to subscribe, it’s not like subscribing is actually going to give him money to buy more food. He gets most of his money through sponsors and Twitch anyways.
Ok im not even kidding, Lud switching to RU-vid may have been the best decision for him. I realize how much more I tune into his streams when it's on my RU-vid front page, instead of Twitch. Ive been binging his videos so RU-vid knows that when he streams, I might want to watch it.

Thank you for calling this out Ludwig, a lot of people have been really upset about this but haven’t had a large enough platform to make a difference. Hopefully now that this will hopefully be more commonly known as a scam now and people won’t waste they’re money on these scams

I remember a while ago there was a similar TikTok Live "trend" where some guy would play snake and pretend to get mad when people sent him gifts because it "distracted" him. Sad to say he was getting a constant stream of roses from gullible kids
The stupidest thing on those lives is that they do they 5 second countdown, and if they don’t get sent negatives, they will just go “ok we are gonna do a countdown” and then do it until they get negatives

It’s sad because Tik tok does have potential to be a decent platform, at least on par with RU-vid. I have a friend in high school who has a Tik tok account with over 150k followers, and he makes videos fixing engines and farm parts and stuff (probably some of the manliest stuff on Tik tok lol). It’s just repairing Timelapses and jump cuts. He doesn’t show is face or anything. But most of it is shit like this. I hope that eventually Tik tok shifts to be better content, but I kinda doubt that’ll happen.
Thing is, there is a ton of great content on TikTok, it just never gets pushed to the front so you have to go out of your way to shovel through the shit so you can get to the good creators

Technically you could turn this into a good thing where for example you do: Count to 100,000 jets (lil more reasonable) and you can donate to increase it only (and have some kind of way to automatically increase it when the dono goes through) then make the deal of "if I get to 0, I take half the donations for me and donate the rest to charity and then if chat wins and the streamer gives up, then you donate everything to charity. Not that bad id say. (As long as there's not just crying the whole time). Oh yeah and like... actually say it that many times and not just fudge the numbers.
Because of this trend, my favorite thing to do on tik tok was look at the accounts of people that pay money for something this stupid. Always cracked me up lol
