@@exoskeletorus yeah that can sometimes happen. But you need to remember that you don't know all the incidents where the dog has been speaking in it's language just to be ignored by humans. One time it's gonna lash out - even unprovoked. A simple "wrong" movement can set them up. Some dogs have social behaviour issues professional dog trainers need to work on. If you have a dog who is acting like that go get you some help.

And sometimes people punish their dogs for growling and teach them that growling is wrong because they think the dog is being bad, meaning they know they're not allowed to growl to tell you what they want and have to go for biting instead. For real! I've always had the most affectionate cats my whole life because I treat them with RESPECT! The comments on those videos are always sickening too like "I'd stomp that cat out if it did that to me". If you ever try and defend the cat you just get called sensitive or a Karen. It's so frustrating.

I completely agree, my house has several cats, because we just kept ending up with strays, and they are all super sweet. Some of them started out pretty wild, but we gave them their space, provided for them, and just let them come to us when they were ready, and they all ended up being friendly sweethearts. None have ever been aggressive. I rarely get scratched by my cats, and when it does happen it was either an accident or my fault. Some are more sensitive than others, but you've just got to spend time with them and learn their individual boundaries. It's really not hard, but so often people don't do any research to actually figure out cat behavior, (which again, isn't difficult, none of this is a secret), and just assume they're bad because they don't act like dogs, (or because they don't understand any animal behavior at all.)

They assume and call all cats selfish, evil, mean, like every single word that demonizes them. It’s funny when I find videos and hear that people who’ve hated cats, finally own one by chance, and begin to actually love them. It’s all just stereotypical “cat bad” and “dog good”. It’s usually the owner who is responsible for how they handle their pets.

Bro I have to stay in a place where cats aren't allowed and I went back to see my cat Charlie today (he is being cared for by my Grandma) and he was literally the most affectionate cat today. I picked him up and sat him next to me on the couch and he immediately got comfy and laid down on my leg. If I was typing with two hands and not petting him he'd rub against my hand and demand my attention. He missed me so much. Cats have boundaries and their boundaries can be different varying person to person. Charlie's bio mother, Luna, is shy. Strangers can't pet her at all. I can only pet her if she's sitting or lying down somewhere. My Mom though, is her human. She follows her everywhere and lets her pet her almost anytime. Luna was feralborn and Charlie was born under my bed, so he is a bit friendlier than her. But he is still shy around strangers. I formed my bond with him by sitting next to him on the couch every now and then and watching youtube with him, petting him. Cats aren't assholes, they just take time to get to know. Dogs are all over you from the moment they see you, but just because cats aren't doesn't make them jerks.

And chihuahuas are made to be watch dogs, they are super loyal and have great facial recognition and memory. Being a vocal breed at that it's natural for them to bark at strangers. Ofc it can be trained away to some extent and maybe in some cases it should be so they don't scare people on the street for example.

My chihuahua barely barks at anyone, and loves people. He only barks at us to bring him toys or because he wants to play. He's spoiled, but a sweetie :P I think people often mistaken their dog's fear for aggression, and chi's tend to be on the nervous side because they're so small.

Same! I have a very tiny dog called coco * who is next to me right now* She has never once been aggressive to people. I used to think they were just like this but when getting one it changed my views on them they are an amazing breed of dog.

My grandma had a Chihuahua named Sweetpea for I think twelve/thirteen years. She also had Sundowner's Syndrome, but my grandma knew to leave her be. When Sweetpea started to get aggressive, she'd go off to her little nook of solitude and be left alone until she was back to her happy self.

This! My 17y/o chihuahua that I just had put down due to kidney failure had sundowners. He'd get so scared and confused at night. He clearly didn't know who I was, so my trying to comfort him wasn't always what he needed or wanted. Sometimes he'd want to be held, sometimes he'd just want to be wrapped in a blanket at the foot of the bed. You go with what the animal asks for, not force them to do things or harrass them. I don't get what's hard to understand about this. Let the animal define what they want, they can do it just fine.

They need to think about how people who have experienced s*xual abuse ALSO can only learn to trust again when their boundaries are respected, because the whole core of abuse is that their boundaries were NOT respected. THAT's what made them (justifiably!) fearful. Forcing them through something as if that's going to help is just disrespecting their boundaries all over again and just makes it worse. It's exactly the same for animals.

Yup, that's how I got my cat more comfortable around me, and now he loves me, always rubbing against me, talking to me, cuddling with me at night, showing his buttt to me (sign of trust in cats). If you respect a domestic animal's boundaries, you'll gain their trust, then gain their love.

oh absolutely! i harp on people all the time because of how they think cats and dogs should be treated the same(think they behave the same have the same love language etc) as someone who works at a cat shelter, i can guarantee that a lot of so called aggressive and psychotic animals will socialize with you if you respect them and give them space. people are surprised when i’ve managed to calm down cats are aggressive and anxious when all i did was respect their boundaries and gave them space to warm up to me and make sure that i was safe. i believe that disney contributed to the unfortunate stereotypes cats receive :(

The teeth thing though, could be the only excusable one. I had an elderly dog with bad teeth too, we wanted to get them cleaned by the vet like we always did of course, but when his health started to decline the vet said it would be too dangerous to sedate him for the procedure. So we had to leave it like that, sadly his teeth were very prone to tartar buildup and even if he didn't lose them, they went pretty bad.

I sort of disagree. Love in fact DOES fix all. But if your only definition of love is hugs and kisses, head pats, over abundant treats, and little outfits, then no, "love" isn't going to fix anything! Love isn't forcing your will on others. It's selflessly fostering THEIR actual health and happiness, even if it sometimes comes at the small cost of some of your own desires and comforts. The way to show this little one real love is to respect his request for space for a start!

I don't think she's trying to actually help her dog. I think she's making a show of it, knowing how her dog will react, and using that reaction for views. She's totally not helping her dog at all, at the same time, her dog is severely under trained. Even if I did annoy my dogs like that( which I would never do), none of them would come at me like that. @@gamewarden2813 I agree about the training, but the whole "alpha of the pack" crap has been debunked literally so many times it's not true. Dogs don't think you're an alpha for being bigger or stronger or in charge you're not a dog. Also wolf packs don't even follow alpha Omega stuff either. It goes in order of oldest to youngest, with mom/dad of the pack being leader as a simple family relationship. Its all crap. Your dog respects you because you trained them that's about it, they're domestic. But they don't think you're "Alpha" you're just the human who feeds them and praises them when they do the thing you wanted, and behave right.

@@AnneDalton82 if you are in a dogs life since they are young (younger then it’s recommended to rehome them don’t try) and have a pack like setting you can become one of the “tops” tops of the pack. That takes a lot of work and a lot of play though. I have that bond with one of my dogs. I am not even for sure yet if she realized I was the one with food till she was about 6 months old because my other dog would come out with me and distract her. Then when she finally payed enough attention to me after that she stared at me like her entire world flipped. But I do know I am not that far up in the pack because I’ve watched her multiple times straight up ignore me to instead investigate what her mom is doing or run around with my a lot better behaved dog who isn’t pack raised. As far as I can tell it’s a lot harder to train a pack puppy past basic manners then it is one not raised in that setting. She might just be sassy though because if she doesn’t see treats she don’t care what commands I give her. Her mother also is completely untrained because of her past.

Youre not a top of any pack! If you sprouted ears and a tail maybe, but that's the whole point-- dogs distinctly distinguish you differently than other dogs because you're not their species bruh. Training is best if positive reinforcement, aka, do trick get a treat/praise, same with praising good behavior, not rewarding bad behavior. That's the essence of easy starting dog training. Pavlovian responses. Nothing that much deeper about it, except dogs have a hard time differentiating scolding and agreeing (if they're barking and you yell at them you're only teaching something they have a reason to be barking at something because you got upset as an excellent example). But it has nothing to do with any social standing with your animal. Dogs have some very human characteristics, but we need to stop humanizing them to this excess degree. It's just weird.

A RU-vidr (I’m pretty sure she’s called Emzotic) bought a dog and she said the breeder was the best so far because they actually care about the dogs (you put down what kind of dog you want and after a few months or longer the person will match you with a dog depending on your living environment and personality, and they won’t give you a dog if they think it doesn’t suit you to ensure that the dogs you buy don’t end up in shelters, paperwork is also needed im pretty sure, and they also check up on the dog once in a while to see if it’s doing alright) I think all breeders should do this to ensure the dogs are going into good hands

I remember that our cat was really loud at night until she heard that we where still there. She definitely had dementia in the end and it got bad. I still miss her so much. She was abused by her previous owners but when she was with us she changed completely. She kinda was like a flower that was starting to blossom when she knew she was save with us and we aren't harming her. She startet playing with us and at some point even slept on us

Owner of small dogs here! You're on the right track, but the issue is bigger than just the owner. I don't violate my dogs' boundaries and definitely don't think aggression is cute. But the rest of the world does! I do my best to keep them feeling safe, but strangers have literally picked them up against their will without asking (someone even tried prying one of them out of my arms as I told them to stop, that was traumatic for both of us!), or if my dogs bark or growl, people will laugh and stomp or bark back at them. Little kids are allowed to run squealing after my dogs without the parents trying to stop them. The world treats small dogs very differently than big dogs (I've had both), and lots of small dogs develop fear issues from that. It really only takes one or two incidents for a dog become apprehensive, and then those signs of fear (growling, barking, snapping) can provoke more disrespectful responses from people that just add fuel to the fire. Society in general treats small dogs like toys, so please don't always assume it's only about the owner. That said, if you see the owner mistreating their own dog like in these tikoks, then that poor dog never stood a chance! 😥

People need to understand that chihuahuas and such, aren't choosing to be born as the tiny creatures they are. They don't know how incapable of self-defense they are to humans, and it's sad and gross how humans will disrespect and make fun of their way of using their language to say "Hey, back off!" 😦 I'm glad I treat my chihuahua with all the love and respect in the world, and she doesn't have to endure what other dogs like her have to; I wish I could save them all, though. It's horrible that for some dogs just like her, the best day of their lives might just be the day they drop dead so they don't have to endure the bullying anymore

Not everyone treats their dogs like accessories, I had a small dog (bichon) and his bites were NO JOKE, I would run for my life if he was gonna bite me, but I can’t because ik he’ll chase me and bite me harder if I do that :’’)

It's like there be people that have small dogs that go to bite somebody, anybody, barking at anybody that walks by, and everything else in between, they sit up there and spoil them but don't train them, it's like they buy them just to use them for accessories or they look cute yet forget that this is an animal, this is a pet that you have to TAKE CARE OF PROPERLY. When you get any pet you have to be mindful, be loving, and acknowledge that your pet has their own personality.

It's actually almost an exact parallel, those type of parents treat autistic people like we're babies even when we're grown ass adults, just like those pet owners baby their dogs. Even like the way Maddie's owner is actively trying to get Maddie to love her, parents of non-speaking autistic kids do that also, they'll try force a non-speaking kid to speak. They'll often cry in interviews saying their child doesn't love them because the kid doesn't explicitly say "I love you" despite the fact the non-speaking autistic people often express that love through body language and other forms of non-speaking communication

I'm not a huge fan of chihuahuas but I get that the demon stigma is messed up cause it reminds me of the violent/aggressive stigma surrounding pitbulls. Dogs pick up what you do to them, simple as that. They don't deserve to be generalized the way they are (and plus side, it'd encourage crossbreeding or at least make mutts look better because you can't generalize mutts if you can't pinpoint what they are :D)

@@47ratsinahoodie only problem I find with mutts is you can’t really tell what your gonna get needs wise, the dog we have now is a mutt and she looks like she’s a lapdog hybrid but no, she needs at least two long walks a day and never sits still. Don’t get me wrong, we love her and wouldn’t trade her for the world but we did not know what we where getting into. Has the tail, black features and stubbornness of a pug, has the skin of a Shar pei, the snout of a King Charles, acts and sounds like a Beagle and has the energy of a sheepdog. I don’t know what she is but she ain’t no lapdog. Next time I think I’d get a cross tbh

I was the same. Grew up having big dogs from puppies, then 2 roughly 2 year old chihuahuas needed a home that we were able to provide. 7 years on they are lovable goofs, the improvement in their behaviour and mood just from having a happy, secure home has shown to everyone in our family that small dogs aren’t a problem, it’s down to the owners. Our lives are enriched by having them in it, and I hope they feel the same in their own doggie way 💕

Most owners of small dogs don't treat them like real dogs because of their "harmless size", which is super bad for everyone and especially the poor dog.

just to be precise - alzheimer is NOT cognitive, it's neurological! it's a neurological deterioration, meaning that you can actually see it in the brain tissue, while cognitive disorders aren't visible in the tissue (you can maybe see the sign of the disorder with a brain scan if it's part neurological like autism or adhd but 100% neurological you see them in the tissues)

And that means it also contributes to her cognitive decline. Essentially making her dementia worse.

The portions of axolotls in captivity is very large, they’re referring to the number in the wild. When you kill one in captivity, it is terrible and horrible, but it does not effect axolotls extinction threat. Much like how tigers remain a threatened species in the wild regardless of the number of breeding facilities.

People tend to over-assume dog's understanding of language.. dogs can learn though time certain sounds have associations but will never know the "meaning" of the word like that. Its another case of people over-humanizing. You're absolutely correct, the dog probably hears "it's ok Maddi" and is about to freak out cause they assume they're going to be messed with! Also tone, that baby voice tone she uses probably also triggers the dog. "I love you" only works if you show love, while shes just blatantly stressing them.. like an abuser hitting you, then saying "I love you" to make it all right.. really messed up. "I love you" but let me mess and do whatever I want with you because you cannot have boundaries, even if you're growling and biting and clearly saying "No" and "Stop" 😩😩 really gut wrenching. They shouldn't bother owning another dog really that dog needs a *new owner* like, last week ugh

Exactly, i one time explained that to a child who run after a dog to pet it exactly, and couldnt understand how running after the dog screaming is not positive for it, even if the screaming contains a "u are so cute i wanna pet u". So to explain it better i told the dog friendly and positive how i will take it to the butcher and make it my lunch, and will make gloves out of its fur for christmas, and the dog actually came to me wanting to be petted. XD And yeah dogs can understand a few words, so they understand if u say sit/come/stay etc, but they cant understand our full languange and sentences etc.

@@arzuriakuroi5323 I'd say that cats are closer to understanding human language on a fundamental level than dogs. Not to say dogs are not smart, just that they communicate differently to like say, cats. Cats meow explicitly to talk with humans and I have found that this makes them more prone to understanding what is asked of them.

Past generations grew up in an area where awful things were normalized and seen as ok, but this generation is seeing what's wrong and sees that it's not normal or ok. Depends, Especially with the snowflake example, there are definetly people who are "snowflakes" as in being entitled and thinking the whole world should go according to how they like it, and everyone who doesnt step down to their wishes is an a**hole etc. I think snowflakes is pretty similar to a sjw. And while i always try to explain how their behavior is wrong even if they only have good intention, i sometimed loose my patience and call them a snowflake and stuff. Speaking as someone in the pet industry, we’re taught to always* have clients ask for a full check-up from the vet, before recommending a behaviorist/trainer. A lot of behavioral issues can be traced back to pain in the body, surprisingly. 🤷‍♀️

yeah some animals don't know how to express pain and discomfort, so they show it with stress and mild anger, it's their only response to constant pain, it's always good to go to a vet if an animal is showing signals of anger and stress 24/7

I used to pick my cat up all the time, she's very old and has bad hips. I wasn't holding her properly and one day she decided to let me know. Luckily it was just my hand that got bit and scratched, I had an allergic reaction though it wasn't that bad just some swelling and the area turning red. After I stopped picking her up, she would come to me for attention which she never used to do. She's a super friendly cat and affectionate, I do feel bad that I was accidentally putting her in pain but I'm happy that she doesn't hate me for it and still loves me

The cat of my bf's mother(she is very good with dogs though, but i think the difference is a dog wants to devote themself as a part of the pack, while cats dont) is pretty similar to that. My bf and i live so close to them that the cat visits us often, and sometimes stays whole days at our place. He was very aggressive in the beginning to, didnt wanted to be touched, and didnt really comunicate at all. He would just attack without warning, or seemed to enjoy getting touched and than attacks and stuff like that. After a few months being more at our place, he learned to better comunicate when he want what, and when he dont. He still does some weird stuff. For example if u pet him and he really enjoys it he will make a very short high scream noice. Or when u pet him, he rolls around xD but that got so much better already, in the beginning he rolled all the time, so u had to constantly follow him to pet him, now he rolls around u :) and when u accudantly touched his belly and stuff because he just rolled over he would instantly attack, and now he understands that it isnt on purpose, and as long as u dont move your hand to fast in that moment, he wont attack (most of the times). And he got so affectionate over time, sometimes at night he comes and licks my nose because he want to cuddle, if u had told me that 2 years ago i would told u to see a therapist xD

Also I have a small dog too (cockapoo not chihuahua) who has the cutest and biggest personality we dress her up for holidays relatively but we don’t go overboard won’t leave anything on her for an large period of time like bunny ears for a Easter photo we take our picture and if she pulls the ears off then she pulls them off, hahaha she usually ends up being spoiled by everyone in the house afterwards being treated like a princess

Smaller dogs get scared/nervous easier than big dogs, which is also why they have less patience and causes them to react faster and more often. But they're not assholes, it's wrong to stereotype them like that.

My bf's cat is the sweetest, most chill animal in the world. But if you touch him with your feet? He hates it, and even gives you a little bite to warn you. He never hisses or gets aggressive but I believe that's because he feels safe and respected. If we didn't respect his boundaries and continuously made fun of him for tiktok views, he would be a lot more stressed and a lot more aggressive :/

I think with small dogs it's all about the training. I feel like they get a bad reputation because some owners don't think they need to train them since they're small. Which isn't the case. I've got a 3 lb yorkie. She's not nippy, yappy or anything. She knows a handful of tricks and she knows how to sit, stay, heel, drop it. She patiently waits for her food. The only time she struggles is when we are going for a walk and she wiggles while we but the lead on her.

I’ve got a small puppy (5 lbs) who we socialized and trained carefully and with lots of love. He’s a very happy boy!

I just want to throw in that while the cat/dog what ever wasnt neglected/abused purposfully/from our view, it could be that way for the animal. My cat was from the shelter too, and the owners before said that he was really affectionate and stuff (the couple divorced and didnt had the time anymore to care for him, so i wouldnt call that abuse or something in that way) But the cat was so hurt by being given away, and loosing their home and family, that he really took a lot of time until he trusted us to not leave him also. Nowadays when my parents were on vacation, and i stayed home together with the cat, he would lay in the bags? U know the big bag like things u take for holidays, i dont know the word for it. When my parents came back. As he is saying "dont leave again" :) I think u get my point. All pets in shelters, either lost their home/family or never had (a good) one to begin with. Wich is why all my pets until know were from shelters :)

Yes, people always assume adopted dogs are gonna be "difficult" but most of them are just normal. My first dog ever is from a shelter and honestly he's a blessing. Already potty trained, patient, well behaved, doesn't mind car rides, learns quick... I think it's much easier to take care of an adult dog who already has a life of its own rather than buying a puppy and educating them starting from zero. Even shelter dogs who were neglected aren't necessarily hard to handle: you can always teach them the things they were not used to like brushing and cleaning ears.

Definitely, just because she's a rescue doesn't mean she's automatically "worse" or "more aggressive" than other dogs. Plus she could easily get her dog ACTUALLY GOOD doggy therapy. Your grandparent's dog sounds cute :)

Exactly. My rescue boy was pretty severely neglected for the first few years of his life. His previous owner had dementia and forgot about him most of the time, it wasn’t her fault but it definitely affected him. He’s a bit protective over his food but he’ll roll over for belly rubs for just about anyone. He’s such a good boy

Unfortunately people do this to large breeds too... I have a 75lb German Shepherd/Chow rescue and my brothers girlfriend purposely scares and annoys him. He's afraid of watermelons so she would scare him on purpose with them. She will rapidly swing her hands in front of his face to make him distressed. I've had to ask her to not acknowledge him at all anymore. Some people are just too stupid to be around animals at all.

This is something pet owners need to learn, that their animals need to be treated differently as they age. My dog is getting older so her skin is less strong, can easily cut or tear. This means picking her up, when she wants to be in my arms, I have to be careful with how I grab her. I wouldn’t wanna put someone I love through pain by ignoring signs of their issues

People just dont treat small dogs like dogs. They rarely get the most basic of training, are treated more like toys, and as youve said, their boundaries are constantly ignored.

And the lack of training can make them really insecure and very uncontrolled. :/

Yeah, that’s true. I adopted a ten year old (now 11) chihuahua, and she’s sweet and patient. She just wants gentle attention and some respect. Sometimes I pet her to the point of annoying her, and she sneers at me, but that’s not her being bad. She’s just asking me to leave her alone, so I do. She’s not done toy to be poked and squished until she makes a funny noise.

My dog has severe anxiety and licks a lot, even people and objects just because she's anxious, it's so sad to watch this. When my dog is really anxious she comes to me for comfort but it's obvious this dog does not trust the owner to help it...

I think the reason why lots of people think the breed is just “demonic” is because of the idea that Chihuahuas were only bred for appearance, and so their behaviour was ignored, thus making the chance of having more aggressive dogs more likely. This was just what I used to think(still kind of think it might be true to some degree.) please disprove my thinking or add to it because I can tell it it’s lacking knowledge.

Ngl, I always called chihuahuas "feisty" as a joke. They are really sweet, adorable, lovable dogs (the one I use to have definitely was).

Most of the Chihuahuas I've met are pretty bitchy and annoying, but they aren't born like that. People treat them like accessories more than living animals, causing them to have no security in their environment and leading to fear and anxiety based aggression.

The only 'demon' like Chihuahua I've ever met turned out to be acting out because he had a tumor inside him that was causing him pain. It's never the dog, it's either the owner or a medical issue. No creature is evil by default.

Tbh best way to actually punish a biting animal is to not even punish them in the traditional sense it seems, but rather like this person said, give them space and actually don’t interact with them. That’s sort of correcting their behaviour. Usually giving a visual and audio cue that they hurt you helps too, even if it’s not that sore they need to be able to tell you got hurt by them usually. Shouting or letting out a REASONABLE yell can get the job done but you need to be careful not to scare them or like emotionally abuse them by being too loud lmao. “Oh you hurt me? Okay, I won’t pet you, or give you a treat now.” They’ll tend to catch on and be like “If I do that, then I won’t get this.” Condition them to understand the consequences of their actions. Ofc all animals are different but nobody should be abusing or neglecting their animals as corrective behaviour.. it doesn’t correct anything they just get more aggressive and unstable.
