Lawmakers appeared unconvinced by TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew’s arguments before Congress, where he laid out the company’s plans to protect U.S. user data. Multiple lawmakers also flagged concerns about the app’s effects on mental health.

But TikTok does what the US government asked it to do: separate the US user data from the Chinese's reach and store them within the US soil. So, who is playing unfairly here?

I think your totally missing the point. China is a US adversary. China owns Tik Tok. China law dictates that there intelligence department can request private user data from ANY company be handed over to them and there is nothing the company can do even if they are privately owned. Chinese communist party members sit on the board of Byte Dance Tik Tok's parent company so they can pretty much do what ever the want. Ask your self this if Tik Tok is so harmless why is it banned in China?

@@PhilipADitko Those apps are not banned, they just do not have business in China, If they agree to store data in China and follow the Chinese law then they can operate in China, it's a documented fact the Google search withdrew from China voluntarily, Google still has R&D office in BeiJing, Amazon, Microsoft Bing, Link-in, CNN, even Foxnews are available in China.

The requirement of China's gov't for it's approval for the sale of any Chinese company which is mischaracterised as "against forced sale" is the legitimate right of any country to protect it's national interests. In TikTok's case, it is the success of it's business model, technology & IP of the algorithm powering the platform that is of immeasurable value that's preventing the sale. If another new app were to emerge in the future that could give TikTok a run for it's money, I doubt China's govt will stop it's sale. US too has banned the sales of many US companies to foreign interests in the name of national interests.

Frankly banning Tik Tok shows US in desperation. But China has been copying US companies and doing nasty trade with US. China need to understand they can’t win if everyone has to lose, (China want to win all the time) there should be some win and some lose, you can’t expect the world want to trade with someone copying their company and selling to us what they copied produce at cheaper prices , and winning through unfair trade policies. China need to limit himself, choose a few strategic industries they want to excel and let US and others have room to survive. Don’t just copied and sell at 50% below our price on everything. America just need to come up with better app. I don't trust technology own companies and any technology company that gather information. If chinese government prohibits the sale of Tik Tok it is own by the co-own with China Communist party government. Any app that collect data need to be banned. Businesses can establish without Tik Tok. Tik Tok banned in India because it caused dispute between Himalayan borders caused 20 Indian soldiers killed and several others injured. America need to come up with better competitive app.
