4:50 just don't, roving is not yarn, it will just turn into a mess as the roving pulls apart, because the fibres are shorter than those stitches and it attracts all the dirt, and it can't really be washed, because it can turn stiff and become felted if you're lucky, if not you just have chunks of felted unusable roving.

as a 14 y/o girl with adhd and autism, learning to crochet about a month ago was the best decision i’ve ever made. it’s the only thing i think about and it makes me so happy to finally feel like i have a personality but most of all to learn a skill that makes me feel good and keeps my brain entertained. i swear i’m addicted!! so far within less than a month i’ve made a cardigan, a sweater, a tank top, wrapped my charger (vine charger trend), and made two pairs of fingerless gloves (one for my sister that was all black, and a colorful one for me based off of the kit gloves from coraline). i thought it would just be another hyperfixation, but i can genuinely see myself sticking to this, as it also doubles as a pretty good coping mechanism!!
@morg678

As a 22 year old with adhd and autism, I feel the same way!! The low risk/high reward process (it's easy to start over from mistakes w/o needing to buy more materials), the endless possibilities of stuff to make, and the repetitive nature of it relaxes me so much. I love being able to pick up a project and feel accomplished. Solidarity with you friend!! Sending lots of love!

The chunky yarn is awesome to do it with, but people using wool roving to make hand-knit blankets hurts my soul (not to mention this is a crochet compilation but THAT ISNT CROCHET)...y'all do realise that it felts in a lumpy and uneven mess within weeks right? Make awesome big blankets BUT MAKE THEM WITH BIG YARN, not something that will ruin your hard work
@shelbyw430
@shelbyw430 3 года назад
@@marnoon wool roving is yarn that hasn't been spun. It is very fragile if you crochet it. If you crochet or knit something with it, it will literally fall apart. Plus, it's so expensive that you'd be a lot better off using thick yarn. I would hate to see someone spend all of that time and money on making a blanket that won't survive longer than a month. Loved the video though!
@meamomo5389
@meamomo5389 3 года назад
i agree, that will literally fall apart in a few weeks. yarn like that has very little fiber memory and especially hand knit blankets leaves a loose tension that will eventually felt the blanket and make it fall apart into just a bundle of sad yarn lol. better much invest in big, jumbo yarn!
@jupitersnoot4915
@jupitersnoot4915 3 года назад
@@marnoon that's not the problem, the problem is people thinking they can use roving like they use yarn. You can't. It's going to disintegrate, get dirty as hell, and look horrible very quickly. It's like cotton candy.

I have never used more than one yarn in a project but I haven't done much crotchet. People finger knitting with roving hurts my soul. Even chunky roving yarns, I spent $300+ on a bunch of chunky hand dyed roving yarn and make a sweater with it and it fucking sucked. It just pilled and matted and felted and got dirty, and it's not even warm to wear outside like people think, because the stitches are so big that the air just passes through the spaces in between the stitches. So please for the love of god use a felted roving, get a thick PLYED or even chenille (however you spell that) yarn, or hold yarn together if you want to make a chunky project. I took mine apart to hopefully make something else with the yarn, but I feel like there's no hope LOL

I love making blankets the most with crochet because, depending on the pattern, it can be an enjoyable challenge. Right now, for the holiday season, I'm working on recreating the magic carpet from Aladdin (cartoon, not live-action) for my dad because that's his favorite movie. Using the corner to corner method works best for that kind of thing.

just curious, would all of these blankets be quite heavy? i feel like the weight of all those squares/shapes sewed together would make the blanket pretty heavy

thats what i’m wondering, especially the blankets made up of thin squares do they actually keep u warm?
@gabriellesimone2546
@gabriellesimone2546 3 года назад
@@tsuyuasui7297 yes they do, they more squares you do the heavier it gets; which makes it warmer.

What's the super chunky yarn called? Does it have a specific name? It looks so sort and chunky. I really wanna knit a blanket with it. 😍

Quick question, how long does it take people to hand knit those blankets with chunky yarn?? Like my crochet blanket has taken me months and if you can hand knit those chunky blankets in a couple of hours I am going to cry 😭

It looks fun. I wish I can afford to buy that much yarn that I'm not going to use. I live in Sumatra Island here in Indonesia and the weather is HOTTT. Even in the coldest days, I only need to wear a thin blanket and slippers, so thick blankets would be useless anyways.

oh my god now i want to make a chunky blanket so bad!! But one thing- aren't these chunky blankets finger knitted?
@olgahein4384
@olgahein4384 3 года назад
They are crocheted, and yes, if the wool is thick enough you can easily use your fingers/hands instead of a crocheting hook. Some are arm knitted, without having the loops on the arms, which is far more figgety.
@pavlinakalivodova5542
@pavlinakalivodova5542 3 года назад
@@olgahein4384 well some of them had 'knitted' written in the captions so it's a little confusing and in a few videos people used knitting needles so yeah, but thanks for taking the time out of your day and replying

If you're talking about the on at 4:50, that's a waste of perfectly fine roving for a blanket that attracts dirt and that pulls apart, because it's made out of unspun fibre and you can't wash it, because it will turn into a felted mess that's stiff as a board Source: I spin my own yarn and that's how I get my wool, if you want a chunky blanket use several strands of chunky yarn instead, you can hand crochet or finger knit, both methods work.
