Hi @paulmarangoni. Everyone's entitled to their opinion :) But out of curiosity, what is it that you don't like about Sam First? And what do you consider to be a "proper venue?" Looking forward to hearing back from you.

@@SamFirstJazz Don't let this bother you, this type of venue is where all of the best jazz has been made for almost 100 years. Playing a bar was good enough for Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, too.

'Improvising, means mostly - if not entirely - spontaneously putting together, assembling on the spot , instantly making music on the fly, w/o any pre planned musical road map, but w/ the usage of and based on materials dealt w/ before to greater or smaller degree. Also the fact that they are listing to one another and responding on the fly, also reinforces that. As is the fact that there are no musical forms or pre planned chord changes, they are going by ear. This is what 'just improvising means' Anyone who says otherwise is a fool. Do you think Keith Jarrett was pulling 'The Köln Concert' out of thin air, as if by automatic writing? Hardly.
