Do not feed doughnuts to your obese children
You will regret it when they're in their teens
Macca's might shut them up now that they're seven
But they wont forgive you
When they're getting picked last for PE
Dont you see?
Boombalada motherfucker
Have you noticed that your kids are fat?
What you gonna do about that?
What you gonna do?
So you're telling me that your family
Has a history of obesity
You got a polycystic ovary
You say "its just the way God made me"
Its unlikely, statistically
To be a physical thing
But either way it dont explain why you
Are in the queue at Burger King
You can blame it on biology
You can blame your physiology
You can point to genealogy
And your social anthropology
You can say you are an ectomorph
That you just cant get the kilos off
Well you can be what you wanna be
But stop feeding your boy KFC
He weighs 40 kilos and hes only three
He looks like a clean-shaven Pavarotti
Ordering Diet Coke is not the way back
Boombalada kiddie-stuffer
Your kids are fat, have you noticed that?
And you oughta be ashamed
For you only have yourself to blame.
Your 5 year old princess in her size 14 tutu
Only eats pizza like that because you do
She'll be dead of a heart attack
Before your grandchildren are ten
Perhaps you'll consider
A cut-back on extra fries then
Boombalada kiddie-stuffer
Your kids are fat, have you noticed that?
What are you gonna do about that?
What are you gonna do?
So youre telling me that your family
Has a history of obesity
You got a polycystic ovary
Your mum had childhood diabetes
But, and in your case
Theres a reasonably big butt
Do you think its an appropriate treat
The all-you-can-eat at Pizza Hut?
Theres no excuse you silly goose
For a child with a caboose
Like a moose whos eaten too much mousse
Its tantamount to child abuse
Kick them off the fucking couch
Unplug the Playstation
Send them down to the park
If they dont wanna go, make em
Tell them they have to jog
Until their jogging shorts fit em
If they hesitate, ask firmly
If they still resist, hit em
Is this what you want for your little girl and guy?
These chips off the pork chop, for the toffee apples of your eye?
Six Packs of Kit Kats are not the way back
Boombalada Kiddie Stuffer
Your kids are fat, have you noticed that?
And you, oughta be ashamed
For you only have yourself to blame
Your 6 year old miniature Jabba the Hut
Eating half melted Mars Bars from the folds of his gut
He'll be dead of an aneurysm
Before his own children ism ten
Perhaps you'll consider
A cut-back on Taco Bell then
Perhaps you'll consider
A cut-back on Krispy Kreme doughnuts
And Popcorn in bucket-sized boxes
And microwave pizzas or drive through McDonalds
For weeknightly dinners in front of the TV
And notes to the phys-ed instructor saying
Timmy has asthma but he really just gets short of breath
Cos hes 35 kilos above the ideal weight
Of 35 kilos for a nine year old boy
THIS SONG IS NO LONGER PERFORMED
" “Do Not Feed Donuts” is a funny song about not overfeeding your children. It’s not a song about fat people. It’s a song about people who are abusing their kids by forcing a choice on them and not helping their kids make the right choices. But, fuck, I just didn’t feel comfortable doing it. I just didn’t care enough about the issue to sit in a room knowing I was making the overweight people feel sad."

He's not insulting the fat kids, he's ridiculing the parents who allow it. He makes that exceptionally clear throughout the entire song. And he is entirely right.

@@jbrisby Unfortunately, core muscles really don't have the capacity to get big enough to fill the most troublesome fat-storing area of our bodies, our tum tums. You might be able to add an inch or two of muscle in that region, but it's not a muscle group that bulks out like your arms, legs, or chest.

I think people are kinda missing the point. Our good friend Tim isn't fat shaming. He's not saying fat people are ugly and gross and need to die and stop taking up airplane seats. What he IS saying is that you as a grown up are responsible for your weight. You can make excuses (valid or not) for the state of your health. But when you have a child, and you are responsible for their future and well being, there is NO excuse for teaching them a lifestyle where they come home to pizza and video games. You know better, and you need to be a parent -- meaning bring them up in a way that encourages exercise and healthy eating, vs grabbing 'dinner' at the nearest McDonalds. Even if you think it's too late for you, it's not too late for your kid. It has nothing to do with fat-shaming. He's a comedian, known for being irreverent, but if you actually get past the initial 'HOW DARE HE,' what he's singing actually makes sense.
@kaptainstandley9417

fat people just get offended because they know its too late for them to do anything about it, oh wait??? whats that, my 45 year old mate went from fat to body builder fit in under a year because he decided to look after himself>? who would have thought you can do anything if you just get off your lazy arse to do it? If you are offended by fat references, you are likely fat. therefore unhealthy, and likely need to start an exercise and new diet immediately. am i fat? no i always decide to exercise when i get just a little bit bigger than im comfortable. so get over your insecurities and get to the gym.

Those people don't miss the point, they just decided to take it on the messenger because they don't like the message. I'm a father myself, having some kilogramms to much, but a do sport especially with my daughters. They should learn to enjoy sports, even the suffering and the exaustion but also the good feeling afterwards. Now they motivate me to go out and play and we all are better of now. Simple said: Tim is f**** right about the whole topic and if someone feels offended: Yes he means you ...

He isn’t fat shaming. He just knows to tackle obesity you need to start young.

By the time I've fully undone the damage from being raised the way I was, I'll likely be suffering from all kind of consequences from being overweight for a major part of my life. I've had major setbacks (heavily damaged hip from an inheritable disease and the inability to do sports or walk coming along with it) but it isn't easy to shred pounds for anyone. I'm sure this gets shit for "fat shaming." Fat adults are a vastly different situation than fat children. If you're an adult your life choices are yours only. If fatness is one of them, it's really nobody's business. That's your body, your choice. Kids really don't have too much choice and it impacts their health for the rest of their lives.
@peteymandem
@peteymandem 9 лет назад
Not when those life choices affect others. When a man with a broken spine has to wait 20 minutes to use the disabled toilets because someone else likes donuts I have a problem, when public health costs massively inflate, I have a problem and when the state has to pay to house, cloth and feed orphans I have a problem.

It's a shame he stopped performing this song. I think it has some good points in it. Although I don't think people should diet just to be smaller size etc, also fat shaming is really bad. But I think parents have a huge responsibility on how kids grow up and how they see food as teens and adults. You also shouldn't restrict too much though, because when your kids go to college they might go completely crazy and just eat the so called "forbidden" foods. Moderation and portion control is the key.

I know some people suffer from thyroid diseases, and yes: genetics play a role. I have a medical condition that makes weight loss harder. Not impossible. I used to be a chunky monkey, but I managed to loose the extra weight. The vast majority of obese people only have themselves to blame, including me. Judging by the reactions to this song, I get the feeling this simple fact is rapidly becoming the new first-world taboo. And yes, children are likely to pay the price. If you don't like this song because it's "targetting obese people", then look in a mirror: you're exactly the kind of person this song is about. This song is NOT about obesity, it's about an attitude. People playing the victim, serving up excuses for their weight as fast as they're golfing down burgers. You can't honestly defend those people, especially if they have children.
@Selrisitai
@Selrisitai 9 лет назад
lose* Also, the most a thyroid problem can do is lower your daily intake needs by about an hundred calories. The thing about human beings and physics is that for YOU to run a mile require the same amount of energy as for anyone else. Eat two or three fewer bites of whatever you eat and you should be golden.
@echomjp
@echomjp 9 лет назад
+AtariMaxiToriyama Actually (few months late but whatever), the amount of energy it takes for a person to move is not the same for one person as for anyone else. Overweight people firstly have more weight to move, and therefore it takes more energy to do so. Coupled with the fact they tend to have weaker muscles and joints and such from a lack of activity, the risk of injury becomes much larger, and the heart itself has to push itself a lot further just to keep the body moving properly. Also, as an obese man, losing weight is not easy. I've only made significant progress in the last 2-3 years (lost about 60 pounds so far with perhaps 40 left to go, plus need to gain muscle on the way), but that's by combining consistent daily exercise with significant dietary changes, cooking my own meals, eating fast food at most once a week rather than almost every day, etc. Lifestyle changes are hard to make and require mental discipline, and discipline is not something a person can just suddenly acquire. If you have the will to make change however, you can cultivate good habits given enough time. Too many people seem to give up before even trying to be healthy or to do anything positive for themselves.
@Selrisitai
@Selrisitai 9 лет назад
echomjp Yeah, but generally speaking, the difference in energy requirement for two 220lb, out-of-shape persons is negligible.
@echomjp
@echomjp 9 лет назад
The main issue isn't how many calories you might burn, but the actual mental and physical effort that are required. The two are not the same. An olympic athlete can burn many thousands of calories in a few hours through exercise, but that doesn't mean that it would be equally possible for an obese person of similar weight to do the same. How strong your muscles are, how strong your heart is, how good your joints are, and how good your mental fortitude is all factor in to the ability of a person to effectively lose weight. For me, losing weight mainly started by simply walking and checking my diet. I can't run for long - I simply don't have the stamina for it being a 270 pound 6'4" guy, but I should by the time I get down to my goal after having lost 60 pounds so far. If I do certain exercises I risk injury, though now that I've built up some muscle groups and gotten more active the list has shrunk. In short: willpower can get practically anybody to exercise and lose weight, but when you are extremely out of shape dieting is an easier way to lose weight than exercise. The difference in capability for an athlete to lose weight with exercise and a typical joe, let alone a highly obese or out of shape individual, are all significant. A person who is in good shape can easily get enough exercise in a day to burn off any amount of calories - making it a serious problem that they actually eat enough to stay healthy. An out of shape person on the other hand can only exercise so much without it basically being a death camp. Exercise has to be ramped up over time.

You can not get fat, or obese, without eating too much. Even of you have a medical condition. Even if you are bed bound. You are capable of losing weight. You do not have am excuse to be over weight. You eat too much. That is the only way you can become overweight. If you eat 0 calories per day you can not possibly within the boundaries of physics and biology continue to be overweight. Take it from me. I used to be overweight for a long time, through childhood and into my late teens. Now I have abs, I got there through diet and exercise. You have no excuse. Anyone who uses the “Obesity just runs in my family!” excuse needs their children taken away or serious mental help. NO child is fat by default. If your kid is fat, it is 100% unarguably your own fault, because you control what goes in their body and they pick up eating habits from you. Your kid is fat because you either have no spine and cave every time they cry for fast food or you’re lazy yourself and want to make excuses so you can keep indulging in endless fast foods and massive portions. I’m saying this as a fat person who, technically, has a predisposition to have more weight issues because my birthmom ate like shit when she was pregnant with me. I still fight with binge eating disorder that manifested after a traumatic experience I went through. I deal with depression and it makes me want to have something fattening, sweet, or salty in my mouth just to feel more alive, and I’m too down to cook healthy meals a lot of the time. But I’ve lost 50lbs because I don’t use it as an excuse to give up (anymore- I definitely used to) and keep piling on weight and blaming everything but myself. No matter WHAT condition or issue you have, you are still biologically capable of losing weight. Stop using the “fat shaming” and “I have a family history of-“ card to justify hurting your children and yourself.

I really don't understand why parents feed their children until they are obese. Odds are they are fat themselves so why put your child into a situation where they face all the extremely difficult challenges you face. He'll use your kid to get you in shape... The bastards are full of energy.

Until they're teens and get pocket money there's little excuse. If your teen gets big through the food they chose it's a hard conversation to have with a sensitive teen but a few tears are worth their health. My son can demolish junk food and loves video games but is skinny, I'm begging him to eat more, my poor daughter only looks at chocolate and puts on the pounds so luck does come into it but only to a point.

I feel ya, spent a long time in the same boat, depression and all. Is it possible for you to get counselling or therapy to address the root issues behind your stress eating? It's absolutely not too late to make changes.

MrMinusguy you can't realistically remove stress from your life, but you can develop new strategies for dealing with it and soothing yourself. You seem pretty self-aware- If you can recognize when your thoughts are leading you to bad feelings which lead to self-destructive behaviours, you can interrupt the cycle. A big part is being able to recognize and call yourself on your own bullshit, haha. Best of luck! :)

I'm about 20 pounds overweight, but my parents had nothing to do with it. I always ate healthy and still do. I just really like beer haha. I love the message of this song, though. It's very blunt and honest. I now have a son who is a year and a half old, and I'm making sure he knows that sweets and unhealthy things are treats and not everyday things. Luckily, he LOVES fruits and veggies. People are so sensitive about this topic but it needs to be addressed more frequently.
@chriswhitaker4226
@chriswhitaker4226 6 лет назад
Just hearing the "sweets and unhealthy things are treats" sounds kind of funny to take something you know is unhealthy and hold it up a special, a treat, perhaps a reward. It is also possible to make fresh strawberries in season, dried mango, and really good cheese a treat. The best chocolate in place of candy bars and lots of real food can leave kids with a disinterest in the chemical/artificial flavours in mass produced food. They will feel the stale oily taste in their mouth when offered a cheesee and may reject it. Just a thought. My kids did not even know what a donut was until we learned about Sweden when they were 7-12, that was who was credited with the invention of the donut so we went to a local bakery and got one each. Happy so say they might have had 3-5 more so far in the past 7 years, just not that interested. Becoming a great cook can help, especially if you let your son cook with you.

Eating ready made meals and fast food is actually more expensive than making balanced meals at home. Yes, if you decide to go all organic or gluten free or whatever the latest, and completely irrelevant to weight, diet trend is currently making the rounds it's expensive. However, since even the most hippie new age dietitian will tell you that ultimately the biggest factor is calories, and making a salad for lunch costs a LOT less than the Large Big Mac combo at McDonald's, it's pretty clear that a lot of people invent cost as an excuse. Also, having a genetic predisposition or medical condition makes it MORE imperative to actively seek to eat healthy, not less. I'm really tired of the weird way PC has decided to take a legitimate health issue and turn it into some social cause. Being obese kills people and is almost always preventable or fixable. For some it is definitely harder, but it's doable, and necessary. And tiptoeing around the issue doesn't actually help anyone. Particularly if they're feeding their kids like this. I can't think of anything else you can legally do to your children that will potentially disable and/or kill them. Seems rather odd that everyone is fine with killing kids as long as it's with McDonald's and frozen dinners. . .

Michelangelo Markus I do think that it should be legal for Social Services to take children away from their parents if they're being over fed to the point of being obese. A good friend of mine was taken into care when she was in her early teens. She (to use her own words) "had food shoved down her throat to shut her up" since the age of 3. She has dealt/is dealing with bullying, depression, anxiety and self loathing because she got teased because of her weight. She ate because she was upset and she was upset all the time because she got bullied. Never ending circle. Although as of the last year or so she's lost loads of weight. I think she's halved her body weight from what she was. Very proud of her.

I was just watching a video about obese children at a health summer camp and most of the things they say come back to the things in this song. Their eating and exercise habits and how their parents are too lax in many ways. 'Adam chose not to return to the camp' like what?? He shouldn't have a say in that. MAKE him go! you are the parent. As someone that was until recently spent his entire life either obese/morbidly obese, i do find this song to be partially offensive. Don't get me wrong, it's message is suitable. However, it's not always the parents fault. No parents can be perfect. Instead of being at home making sure i ate right, they worked their arses off to provide me with a greater level of education that the vast majority would not be able to afford. So blaming the parents for their ways of guiding their kids isn't necessarily the best option... with everything there are consequences and i'm sorry, but at any age you know what food is good and bad for you, as well as what would be a suitable amount of it.
@marjonaylor374
@marjonaylor374 10 лет назад
Perhaps you should stop blaming yourself so much and acknowledge the fact that your folks aren't perfect. Yeah sure, they got you to a uni, or wherever, which is admirable. But they shouldn't of neglected the other aspects of bringing up a kid. If there is a pile of salad or a pile of chips, OF COURSE the kid will go for the chips. Because to most kids they taste nicer. That's what adults are for - to make sure the kid picks the better choice. That's called parenting. I was a fat kid. I'm still fat. And I love this song!
@beardedartisan
@beardedartisan 10 лет назад
Tim Minchin has a personal axe to grind with this song, as apparently he was an overweight child and a huge part of that was down to his diet (he is the 'Timmy' mentioned at the very end of the lyric). So no, the song isn't entirely fair, and its sentiment should be taken with a pinch of salt. I disagree, though, with your assertion that "at any age you know what food is good and bad for you". That's not true. While our bodies may instinctively crave certain foods, no one is born with a conscious knowledge of what foods are good and bad; we have to be taught, and as the song points out, many children eat poorly because they copy adults, because copying adults is how we learn to do most things. It's completely possible to overwrite instinct with habit, and of course there are many other reasons why we might develop poor eating habits, such as depression. Not to mention that junk food contains caffeine and processed sugars, which are addictive. Your statement suggests that, EVERY single time ANY person sits down to eat junk food, they are making a conscious, fully-informed decision to sabotage their own health. I would say the truth is much more complicated than that.
@nickwinsalot
@nickwinsalot 10 лет назад
They did a study on young toddlers, and gave them a tray full of food so they could select their own meal. Obviously to begin with, the unhealthy food, the sugary stuff would be eaten first and the healthier options would be left on the tray. But after a few days of this, the babies themselves chose to eat the healthier food over the tastier alternative. I would therefore agree with you that most humans naturally know what is good for them, but whether they have the will power to do it is trickier. It is always going to be much easier for a child if they have the healthier food provided as opposed to the unhealthier food being their only alternative. So I think that it is a parents responsibility for the diet of their children as if they can at least provide the good stuff then the child will work out for themselves how to eat properly.

I think it's that the crowd laughed a few too many times. like at the parts where Tim warns that these children are going to die young.
