As a former (recovering) theist (Evangelical) 😲- one who taught apologetics (OMG!! WTF!!), I believe that faith teaches you to accept bad epistemology as a method for determining what is real or true. That, along with a persecution complex - something you are also trained to believe, allows them to view Trump as a flawed but divinely appointed representative. Add to that the Fox News effect of, "they are coming for your way of life" and you can convince middle-America that oligarchy is not the issue hurting your town. It is, instead, a lack of prayer. Terrifying because then you can accept that science and information is the enemy and the cure is more magical thinking. What I'm saying is, can I move to Australia?
Glad I did not listen to the whole podcast to hear this absurd reduction of faith into "irrational magic" that leads to following Trump. What bloody nonsense.
Josh, love ya mate but please stop interrupting Tim with distracting comments or "look at me" one-liners. Tim, really appreciate your views and would've loved to hear more of them uninterrupted.
I'm amazed anyone uses the term "critical thinking" unironically in 2024. "I am a critical thinker, I am impartial and rational. If everyone thought like me all our political problems would be solved" This guy is stuck in 2016, still confused why Hilary lost.
Yep... Critical thinking is difficult, especially the part where one has to find reliable information and reliable interpreters of said information. In the current era, we swim in a sea of BS and absurdities, many of which sound like rationality. Perhaps it's always been this way to some extent but internet has complicated things a thousand-fold.
