I really love how every time he hits a joke that he knows is killer he turns the music up and keeps going without missing a beat. It makes me feel smart for getting the joke because he acts like he’s being sly and slipping it in when he’s really not

I don't really believe he had depression in mind while writing this one. He simply is mocking people's complacent satisfaction which is engendered by comparing the circumstances of their life with other more unfortunate and deplorable ones other people endure , life only became a living hell for us when it gets personal , so long as it affects only those whom we do hear about from the news , it's something to be grateful for. It's a song about our self centered nature, at least that's how I perceived it.

everybody focuses on the relatable lyrics but not on the timeline in which he starts his day. if you can sleep in til after 11:00 you definitely have a more blessed life than most 9 to 5ers. the song is brilliant though and thought inspiring, i had to look up thalidomide kids now i'm heading to ipswitch for a shandy and a meal (line from what was '06 for)

He’s not bad, but it feels like it’s missing something. Maybe it’s not simple enough or maybe the piano is just background beat instead of adding to the feeling of the song. Idk, I’m not a doctor.
