Between June and August 1986, Tim Richmond won four Winston Cup races. He sat down for this interview with ESPN's Jack Arute on August 16th at Michigan International Speedway. He talks about his style, remembers his famous time in the Indy 500, and discusses his recent success.
This interview has been posted before by other people but this was taken from a first generation VHS tape, hopefully this is the highest quality possible.

Super talented, humble, but flamboyant. He was one of a kind. Gone way too soon...

Davey Allison and Tim Richmond were robbed of amazing careers.

Both would have won a championship if not multiple championships

He had the charisma of Earnhardt and I wonder, if he had a long career, where he would have landed in the halls of nascar.

Tim was my favorite driver back then. A few years later it became Earnhardt. A lot of great drivers since but no one has replaced them for me.

Loved Tim Richmond. He was so handsome and charismatic, and he was also a great driver.

Absolutely, and what a driver he had car control better than anyone in nascar history! And was the coolest dude I have ever seen!

When we were pregnant with our second child, we picked Timothy for a boy. We named her Rebecca.

Gone way too soon. MHis illness was misunderstood.

What misunderstood, he died of AIDS

I don't know if it was misunderstood so much as he refused to allow NASCAR see his medical records which created suspicion. If Richmond had gotten injured in a crash and bled, I think the NASCAR rescue crews had a right to know if he had AIDS.

Would have been more compelling if he talked about how he contracted AIDS

The stigma at the time he was afraid to talk about it publicly. That is why only a few people like Earnhardt knew the truth before he died

@@shaunstrasser1 You're correct. I remember Big E saying he had AIDS and took a beating over saying it.

@@shaunstrasser1 Yep. Back then, it was assumed to be a "gay" disease when he could have gotten it by playing with too many ladies and occasionally experimenting with drugs.
