Just for future reference the steel square you have lying there on the ground is 1.5 by 2 and makes a MOST EXCELLENT gauge to check for straight.

You have a good start of antique tools that are very useable. Clean those tools up, good old tools are never rusty old tools.use the tongue and blade of your square to check your mortises, the 1.5 inch chisel matches the tongue and the 2 inch chisel matches the blade.practice, practice, practice.

hi, you better cut with a saw the diagonal then get off the materiel with a 1"1/2 sharpen cisel, it's much more faster imo is your cisel have a round edge?

You need to keep that chisel sharpened

Good observation. I just got a bigger chisel. So it will make the work a little easier.
