Hey Dave, I just looked to see if you had a playlist of knots. I didn't see one, that would be a good one. Thanks for all you do.
@FishTheJim
@FishTheJim 3 года назад
Knots and cordage are all through his playlists but if you look where they are most likely to be found you can build your own playlist and combine it with other youtuber Pathfinder school instuctors or other videos that you like. I have been putting things like this together for awhile as videos come out and they are very helpful as I can add descriptions of what is covered and even put in playback spots so I can get right to the relevant info that I need. I hope this helps.

Thanks, Dave! Simple variants of a well known knot make it usable in multiple ways. 👍

Awesome knots! While camping, I usually fall back on knots I learned on my uncle's fruit farm. The bowline and the way he tied down apple boxes and cherry tanks to a flatbed, he called it the fruitfarmer's knot. I don't know a more common name for the latter, but you fasten one end with a bowline, throw the other end over the load, make a loop, give it a couple twists, pull a loop through the loop from the twists, run the free end around what you're tying onto, put the free end through the second loop, pull down with all your might and tie an overhand knot with a loop to keep the whole thing tight so you can give the end a tug and free it all up when you get to where you're going. Now they use ratchet straps. But I still use the fruitgrower's knot when I cinch down on tent stakes.

ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cXdGdJ9Cm9w.html Like this. But a bowline on the tie down side instead of a bull hitch.

Thanks for this video Dave. Knowing how to make these different type of knots are one of the most important things to know and learn. It is great to have someone like you taking the time to show all of us how to make and use them.

Interesting. The second turn through the loop on the timber hitch can also be used on the truckers hitch to hold the pull so you don't lose what you gained in the pull. I'm guessing one can slip the half hitch in the Crowley knot for ease of release.

I've found the round turn only becomes self locking with paracord. I've tried it with various sizes and types of bankline as well as other cordage and I can only ever get it to work reliably with paracord.

I use the timber hitch twist to help like my shoe/bootlaces before the bow. That way they're locked tight before knotting.

I have used the Crowley Hitch many times, and never knew it was an official, named thing. I've also used the the second hitch a lot, but I've always called it a "Rolling Timber Hitch." Maybe I'm wrong on that name though.
