This is not a "How too" video, but more on a Timberwolf log splitter I had purchased 7-8 years ago and the modifications I have done since since owning it. The product was made in Rutland, VT. The brand is still around but I do not think it's made in VT but may have moved to NY. The web site does not look updated but I may be wrong. I have been very happy with the product and I would buy it again. I am burning 6-8 cords of wood per winter. So I am splitting a lot of wood to have roughly 1-2 seasons of wood on hand. The axe I am showing is on another video where I showed how to make the cover. That WAS a new handle that day and managed to break it. Soooo, I bought a Stihl axe with a neck double the width.

Nice set up. I’ve had my twp-1 since 2006 . Still going strong. I never got the grate so I’ve been using rounds on each side like tables to hold up the halves as they’re split.

I just picked up a TW-2 with the table grate. As I split by myself, I noodle those big rounds to get them in the splitter a little easier. My dealer told me that Timberwolf no longer uses dealers. Everything now will be factory direct. I say good luck with that. The wrong work table was shipped to me when I bought the splitter. It took over three months to get the correct one shipped to me and get a return label to send the first one back. However, I still like the splitter and it's hard to find a comparable one on the market.

Agree, it is hard to find one that is as heavy duty but not a commercial grade in the current price range. No dealers? That's a stupid move but,... my guess is to keep cost down for the consumer. My enclosed snowmobile trailer is made this way, but the manufacture is a few hours away drive so if I have a issue, they know I can be at their door step pretty quick. You will find you'll need to modify the table over the usage. If so, find a good welder near you to do the work. Stay on top of the mainteance and this splitter will last for decades.

@@bigguydiy2184 That's for the tips. I'm blessed that I have a great welder near me after my former go-to welder just retired.

I have the same splitter. Has never let me down. Also instead of trying to pull the log apart, I just run the next one through. I know it’s not as easy with those big logs. That for showing yours. Now I will have to extend the table like you did.

I've had the same splitter 5 years too.im going to lengthen my table too,I also raised my support leg 6 inches, what a difference on my back.i use my tractor bucket and/or log tongs to load the splitter, this frees up room for a 2nd person, which the lift blocks that area..great vid

@@bigguydiy2184 well Big guy, they must have watched your video! I received this last month and have gone through two cords of white and red oak - all green. They extended the log tray back and made hardened log cradles to which the log lift is affixed. The log tray is not slide on but is affixed via bolts to the I-beam and it is HEAVY duty - doesn't budge even with wet red oak rounds half split. A good problem is that is extremely heavy to maneuver - need some wheels. Well done. GOD Bless

Is the log lifter a diy add-on or does it come from the manufacturer?

Comes from the manufacture. Still offered today.

Thinking about buying one with the manual log lift. Is the lift helpful or do you break your back on rounds. Most of what I split is 20 inches or less. Thanks.

I find it super helpful on the back. If I am not using it to lift logs, I keep it half way up and stack it with additional logs to split.

Have the same setup minus log lift....its from 2013. It splits basically anything I have thrown at it using the single wedge. The issues I have are the working height and large diameter logs get stuck at the end of the ram stroke and you have to have a maul (like you) or flip it backwards. I was going to get that log lift but thought the price as steep for it. Also, that table grate comes with bolts, at least the one I bought from 2019 brand new comes with it. You have to drill through the H-ram where it slides in.

The addition of bolts is later in the model year. Mine just used it's trailer chains originally. I now use a ratchet strap to hold it in tight. I agree on the height. It is a tad low and I am 6'3". As for stuck logs, I keep a 6lbs axe with a 3 foot handle. This is usually enough to give it a good whack to brake it loose off the wedge. I have had numerous BIG logs get stuck. Usually white oak. I have placed logs over 40"s across on here and have to flip them to get the log to split thru. Cost of my unit back in 2009-2010(?) was $3500 as is. I never let anyone borrow it, to costly LOL.

@@bigguydiy2184 when you think about it $3500 over 10+ years is a giant bargain!

I always have a torch handy when I encounter ant and other insect infestations when splitting wood lol

The ants actually leave after splitting the wood if you let it sit. If you get the white grub worm out, the ants have no queen to tend too.

Fortunately I ran a stainless steel liner thru my chimney to avoid any fires. I also clean my chimney every year to know down the creosol that build up from low burns.
