I cried in the arms of Smokey Robinson last Saturday night after his show in Vancouver. He is an amazingly sweet, humble , WONDERFUL man. I am the 3rd generation of Mowton fans . My mom, my daughter and I all attended the show....it was a very emotional night because my aunt wasnt there to share it with us, she passed away not long ago, she loved Smokey, and when he sang "My Girl".....the tears just came for all of us. We love you Smokey, and I will never forget how sweet you were to me

I am so glad that you went back to listen to a man with all that history inside him...How beautiful for him to say that Marvin was his favorite... Mine too.. but the entire group of Motown people were magic. Please people if you want to know good music, visit these incredible singer song-writers...They wrote the soundtrack of my life, and I am forever grateful to them all. One thing for sure ...I know good music when I hear it because I come from the Motown era. It was Jazz wrapped in soul...
Smokey is the pioneer of Motown. He was there from the very beginning before all of the other now famous artists were, which many of them are now deceased. Not only did he sing sweet melodies, but he wrote and produced hit songs for many of the artists, which helped them become stars. He played an integral part in developing the Motown machine that we know today. I salute William "Smokey" Robinson for all that he has given us through his many talents!
Smokey Robinson is a magnificent man. I have read memoirs and autobiographies on mostly all of the major Black artists of Motown and other labels. And believe me, those artists write many negative things about other artists in the business. But Smokey Robinson is one of the very few artists that everybody has nothing but good things to say about him. He is well liked and well respected by everyone in the business. And it is easy to see why. He is a beautiful man inside and out.
Smokey Robinson also wrote "A Quiet Storm" which is one of his greatest songs & one of my all-time Favs by any artist (& it should have been a massive hit but the song is over 7 mins long so it would not have been played on the radio in the 1970's.).

I just started listening to some of his work and I kind of knew who he was, but I really wasn't in tune with the work he's done. So I started listening carefully and I was amazed. It must have been a dark moment in history for him, but the music got through.

The impact that Motown has had in history is truly amazing and not just musically but for society, for people... It's beautiful, the arts. I'm fortunate to be born into a time where people are considered more equal, well not fully and definitely not everywhere, but where I live at least racist opinions get frowned upon (AT LEAST). It's difficult to imagine how things were even if it wasn't too long ago...
