@@thomaseliason8376 You are the MAN !! Always great seeing Steely Dan and the Danettes thru the years. It was a great ride Walter --- you will be missed.
Totally agree. Seen them twice, will again. This is one of their best tunes, right up there with Deacon Blues. Love Fagen solo too, and Nightfly had great tunes.
Saw Steely Dan one year before we lost Walter. They sounded exactly like their CDS. Unbelievable! Perfection and Grace….We were outdoors with speakers in trees all around us. It felt surreal. They did all their hits, this was one of them . Hard to sit still ,you have to sway to this and believe me there were smiles on every face… time out of mind. Steely Dan Soothes the soul… RIP Walter Becker. ❤🎸♥️
I was lucky to see Steely in 2007 at Towers PA. This song brings me back some good and crazy times !!!!!! The most sampled group for sure. Rip Mr W Becker 🙏.
Steely Dan defined my life beginning as a kid growing up to an adult. Finishing school having a family and now I just became a grandpa this year. Thanks Donald and rest peace Walter. From the Philippines 🇵🇭 Mabuhay to you Thomas 👍
This band is nothing short of perfection in pure genius millennials pay attention people used to write real music and play instruments and they can sing also wow what a concept
Hip hop without Steely Dan is like hockey games without fights !!!!!! One of the most sampled group for sure. This song brings me back to crazy past of my life ,party has to end sometimes. Rip Mr W Becker 🙏. De LA SOUL to ATcQ they took madddd samples.
There were times when there was music being made... I'am afraid those times of creativity are gone forever... Thanks Walter and Donald for your catalogue !
No, he wasn't and he clearly says here that 'Creativity [is] gone forever' implying that all modern musicians are useless even if this sweeping generalisation is completely ridiculous and subjective
this tune IS my pulse, timeless, unknown by far too many, but those of us that do, We are blessed...Carry on Walter Becker, You will live forever in Us, You made the world a better place
Alan Smith Pulse is the word. I went for a job interview a thousand years ago and the rather bored interviewer asked me who my idol was. Donald Fagen...I replied. He sings in Steely Dan. He's just always in my head. I said. The interviewer remained rather bored and I didn't get the job. But...pulse...you're right. This tune is my pulse.
Yeah maybe but then again maybe it was more the original studio recording wherein Mark Knopfler supposedly laid down the lead track, intro/outro, etc. Becker, when performing this live, always over-killed the lead guitar part by playing these meandering, noodling note patterns, just boring with no emotional uplift throughout the tune....thus serving as a buzzkill. Listen to the recording and enjoy....
This was awesome! Amazing. The days of a real live band with everyone’s instruments in harmony is rare. And the incomparable Donald Fagen…. This is one of my all time fav classics. ❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥
Two things come to mind. 1st, the genius of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen together. What a series of music they wrote together over the years. My heart was broken with the passing of Walter. RIP. 2nd, is it me, or does anyone else notice that Carolyn Leonhart just keeps looking better and better as she ages?
She sure looks like it. Steely Dan knew to include the girls singing in the background of almost every view. There`s nothing wrong with listening and watching the girls as they sing.
Thank god I found Steely Dan all those years ago. I crawled away from turgid British concept rock on my hands and knees and was able to stand on two feet and groove in a happier place.
I have been to countless concerts……I have been privileged to Enjoy Steely Dan 5 times in 3 decades. They sound exactly like their albums. Rip Walter Becker.
Bring back magical memories growing up and evolving into a adult days gone by things were much simpler in the D ( Detroit) late 70's 80's and early 90's miss you wjzz R.I.P Rosetta Hines
Nothing else compares to Steely Dan. I've listened to them since the 70's when I was in my teens and I'm listening to them now in my 60's. There music transcends time, it's always mellow and cool.... it enters my ears, sends me into a dream that lands in my soul.
Grew up on the Beatles......still love em. Now Im a man of a certain age and I split my listening between the fab 4 and steely dan. What a delight for the ears and mind!!!!!!!!!!
I just stop asking myself: How in the hell do they keep doing this? Such greatness??? Just when you think that the bar can go no higher, THEY TAKE IT HIGHER!!!!
I put their music down a long time ago. Just picked it back up and realized what I have been missing. A true band of artists who have created some of the best music. Thanks for for the further opening of my mind, sister Carla.
This particular track really does show the nuance and subtlety of Becker's guitar work. He was truly unique because his main role was kind of a hybrid rhythm but he never just played chords - he would always play around in the open spaces and add a *very* subtle syncopation. I can't think of any other guitarist who would relish in this support role and yet still find his own voice within. Walter defined SD every bit as much as Donald in my opinion.
Thomas Eliason I'd say you nailed it sir. As I got older and studied, I could finally understand the relationship between them. Both masters at the craft. It was hard to play Fagens albums, even though I enjoyed them, there was something missing. It was Walter. I was so lucky to have seen them before he'd gone. Dan fan forever.
This brings back memories my senior year in high school. This is the Steely Dan song that got me loving Steely Dan. Thanks for bringing back memories TE. RIP Walter.
