I've been a fan of the Dan since I was in my mid teens. I'm 61 now. Covers rarelly surpass the original. In this case I have to admit that this version is absolutely extraordinarilly superior. If that is at all possible. No slight whatsoever to Fagan and Becker, my heroes. Bravo all!
You know, the dan are so perfectionist,it´s so worth it to copy them note for note ......cause when you play it ( not that I ever played it in a cover version band, mind you,) it sounds like aural bliss when you get that close......congrats!!!!!!
There probably is. I saw mention of a group out of Temecula, CA calling themselves Illegal Fun. Talk about obscure references! They're only a 5 piece and mildly entertaining but I do dig the name.
@@DoctorWuBand Wow! "Illegal Fun" is about as obscure as Steely Dan references ever get. Interesting that the song "Glamour Profession" also inspired the name for the 1980s group of Steely Dan session musicians, The Hoops McCann Band. Seeing them perform at the very first Mt. Hood Jazz Festival in Gresham, Oregon on Aug. 7, 1982 was the closest my wife and I came (up to that time) to our 2nd Steely Dan concert (since our first on April 21, 1974).
@@andyinoregon Right, exactly on the Hoops McCann Band. That was Slyde Hyde and Chuck Findley - Chuck doing a few of the arrangements on that one. Our former trumpeter and mensch extraordinaire, Andy Winer, (former MD for Chaka Khan and keyboardist with Patti Austin, American Idol Live and more, did an arrangement of Glamour Profession from that album for us. Sometimes we use the arrangement to open up 2nd sets. We haven't played it in a while but it's heady as can be.
Fagen actually digs it. So does his assistant producer on Aja (Bill Schnee) his lead trumpeter on Aja, Gaucho and the Royal Scam (Chuck Findley) and their bone guru on the same records (Slyde Hyde). Jay Graydon’s even played with the band. Haters gotta hate, I guess.
That’s my new favorite idea for a Steely Dan song . John Boy Bliss . Inspiration comes in my ways thanks John. John Boy Bliss it’s brilliant. The lyrics are flowing fast and strong.
