Great presentation. I like that you talked thru the steps rather than executing each one tediuously. It was the right level to present, very understandable, and useful. A thoughtful approach to workflow.
Omg!!! I recently adopted the method of working through the selected images at the time. But then I realized my laptop couldn’t perform at it best😭😭.. the moment I have a new machine I’m gonna go back to that idea. Thank you Michael for the information. Happy new year !
Plenty of very useful tips that can help with any sort of photography. I even learnt two things I never knew… so thanks. 1. I never knew one could run Actions/Scripts in C1 (although the Scripts menu item does not appear in the latest version for Sony on Windows. So perhaps something specific for Macs) 2. Copy layers/adjustments into an other file using the Duplicate Layer command. That’s gonna help me.
Despite some twelve years' experience as an in-house retoucher (with my own Actions and versatile layer-stack), it apparently took me until this moment to discover that "Duplicate..." isn't simply an analogue of Cmd + J but actually useful in its own right. Much obliged.
I have your Dodge and Burn Course and, along with the Retouching Academy panels, have been working on learning retouching for the last two years. The frustrating thing is that my images get yawns where other images that photographers have used programs like Portrait Professional have people raving and drooling over them.
I edit my images knowing that the model who gets the full sized versions will be zooming in on her face. And that requires near perfection. It is not uncommon for me to be dodging and burning with a 2 or 3 pixel wide brush and removing tiny imperfections. The biggest issue i still have is skin color. Usually red and yellow patches and lines. Because with dodge and burn i am only fixing luminosity. (Unlike frequency seperation which fixes both luminosity and color). I been having some major issues fixing color if i only use dodging and burning
Do you apply color grading/styles on PSD file in Capture One after skin retouching on Photoshop or it’s better do it before jump to Photoshop? Thanks Michael!
Hey Michael, thanks alot for this. I wanted to ask you about your d&b layers, as I see that you have a clipped layer on top of each that says saturation or desaturation. Do you touch the ssaturation after d&b for that layer? Thanks a lot!
Also, (one more), I see that when you go back to C1 you have on screen .PSD files. Do you continue working on PSDs? and if so, are those PSD flattened or do they keep all your original layers? and if so(again) how does that save? I guess this is something I can test myself, but given I wrote, it's good to ask. Gracias again!
