Some of them ended up ashore in scotland too, on the mainland and in Shetland. A group of them even settled in westray in the orkney islands, building homes for themselves and marrying local women. They became known as the westray dons.

I do it because being able to look at the surrounding terrain on Google Earth adds a lot to the experience. Frequently crop marks show other features not covered by the dig. The information is posted on Time Team's website. No secrets there.

I am open to correction but doesn't the RAF do extensive training in open water rescue operations. I have seen footage where -particularly in Britain- they work with the land based rescue teams in everyday operations. are they not the most effective unit to do recovery and rescue in storms. I have heard the Navy find it extremely difficult to operate in storm conditions for search and rescue. But then again I couldn't imagine helicopters would be able to either.

In actual fact the wreck was discovered by an RAF diving club located at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland. Having discovered it I guess it was appropriate they would be given the chance to get involved in the Time Team project, especially as they knew exactly where to look!

Historical accounts are full of lies. None more likely than those of great victories, of great heroic deeds, and other such things that would be fodder for national pride, especially at the time. Especially in the past when all the public knew was through news pamphlets and broadsheets from official accounts. Do you really think that they wouldn't have proclaimed that they won, quite unexpectedly, over the Armada due to their own merit rather than an accident of weather? And that is the version that is remembered in the UK? All types of officialdom, in every period, in every culture, has done this sort "PR", put a bit of positive spin to look good to their own people, to make more of anything they could while minimizing damages.

The point of investigating something is to find an answer to a question either way. Finding no evidence still answers the question they had. Investigations don't always lead to yes, sometimes they lead to no and that also provides data. That's why we do investigations in the first place.
