8:56.. as if we needed more proof that Phil is absolutely AWESOME.. dogs love him so much they won’t go away 😂 One of the best secondary gifts of this show is experiencing Phil, knowing he exists as himself is a gift from the universe 😁 I saw him in a Wessex Archeology presentation from the last year and he’s a much older version of exactly himself ❤.. and if you don’t know, I saw that there’s a life size statue of him in the museum 😂 it’s priceless..

'A few random test pits' would be a great name for a band!!

It's nice to see the residents take so much pride in the history of their village. I'm sure it motivates the archaeologists in no small measure.

from the looks of it, how Phil is standing and holding his arms and hands, he must be really in pain. his back must have been -killing -him.but he does not let anyone see it. - chapeau -Phil.

I am writing from Texas and it amazes me how tight together everyone lived! I mean on top of each other. Lovely show I am binge watching because living with American tv is not an option for me. It tends to turn your brain into gruel.

How about people stop putting Phil down about his hat and respect him and the rest of the team for the excellent work they do protecting our heritage and bringing those to light that are lost. Good work Time team

I can't imagine how many back injuries must spring from these digs . Look at Phil Harding - 40 years or more digging away ! He must be relying on pub refreshments regularly for pain relief ! Oh the agony ! 'Hats off the the old hippie !

At about 21:00 - 'Until you'd got this magnificent find, we hadn't found any Saxon pottery in this entire village.' 'Well there is this piece as well.' 'Oh come on.' Tony proceeds to ROFL. I joined him in quarantine.

They really trolled Phil in this one...he can take it. And the guy with the stain glass was hilarious. Tony was speechless as the guy completely upstaged him....priceless. Thanks so much for uploading.

I'm constantly amazed at the manners and conduct of the characters in these programs . British manners are so impressive . Even when disagreeing they are civil and seldom talk over each other . I'm an Anglophile for sure !

Love looking up the sites on Google Earth. Some of the locations you can actually see crops marks from the trenches. Way cool! No sightings of Phil's Hat though.

I enjoy the comedic aspect of the interaction when acts and speculations are questioned. It is a simple way of getting through differences especially as the day seems to end with a pint of 2--an excellent leveling aspect to life.

It's quite wrong to assume Edward was born in a "palace" of Aethelred. Emma of Normandy, Aethelred's Queen and Edward's mother, was the wealthiest woman in England and owned many properties, including in Oxfordshire, though I'm not sure about Islip specifically. Edward himself writes that it was his _mother_ that gifted him the _little house_ in Islip rather than his father. This implies a relatively lowkey dwelling rather than a full-blown Saxon palace. It may have been a place of retreat for Emma when she went into seclusion during her pregnancy, as wealthy women often did until modern times. It could even have been a guest house near a monastery she patronized if one existed in the area.

A confessor is not a saintly priest, but rather a canonized saint who was not martyred.

I really like the show, but I have to chuckle a little about the title changes. In one episode, Paul Blinkhorn is a "pottery expert;" in another he is a "ceramicist." In one episode Guy is a "Roman History Expert;" in another he is a "Romanist."

Edward: "I must confess, the rumors of my chapel turned out to be a load of poop."

Great episode....Time Team needs to run things differently....they need to have the research done Before the three days of digging begins...as well as the geo-phis....needs to be done well ahead of the dig

A confessor is a saint who died of natural causes as opposed to a martyr . Often used to differentiate two persons of the same name .

I'd just like to point out that if they had found "13th Century Dinky toys" as Mick joked, a few people might have asked questions why someone born in the 11th century had toys made 200 years later. But I'm sure the church would have been able to explain away ANOTHER miracle of the relics (Like how Jesus managed to have up to 18 foreskins).

Finding Saxon dwellings is proving as illusive as finding a shirt to fit Brigid.

So what if Edward was born in Islip. His mother might have just been passing through from one royal estate to another. I've known kids born in one locale, when they were actually just born in a car on the side of the freeway and happend to be registered in that jurisdiction. their parents never actually resided there. seems that was probably edwards nativity, born in a small royal hunting lodge which was the nearest convenient place when his mother went into labor. All the later stories were applied later after he died.

Imagine you knew exactly where Jesus was born (or walked, ate, urinated or died, was buried,etc.) Any piece of soil that touched that place would become a holy relic. Every piece of gravel, stone, wood, etc. would be taken away and either displayed or sold to the faithful. And any pottery shard which could be Saxon would have been sold by conmen as the cup Edward drank from. I would be shocked if anything at all remained to be found. A saint isn’t a messiah, but the result would likely be the same.

Someone should compare results with #hydraulicpresschannel and #taofledermaus on this glass urinal at the discovery of it.

All these seasons, and they never do buy a power sod-cutter...
