Best tip is to really have units that have abilities that play off each other. For example, having units like a seal or worm with a rabbit. The rabbit gives extra health per food used, and a worm gets additional buffs with food, or a seal gives buffs to other units with food. Or if you have a buy/sell team, which is one of my favorites. If you do a buy/sell with a team with a buffalo and/or dog. Beavers and owls are good for the buy/sell, because they buff units when you sell them. A good strategy is to also have positions to have a "flex" unit, meaning that it can be sold at any time. So, you might have a squad with a buffalo, dog, and skunk, and then two spots for buy/sell or maybe a scorpion, deer, mammoth, turtle, etc. Scorpion, deer, mammoth, turtle, flamingo, and ant aren't really units used for battling, but typically they're either used for some odd meta builds or for a temporary buff during battle in order to get rid of an opponent's melon armor or something like that. I'm not good at summon builds, but if you plan a good sniper build, then you can counter those, and a lot of people use summon builds.

Chick -> Level a Rooster to level 2, pill it and combine Zombie Fly -> Get a Fly to level 3, pill another unit on your team. Zombie Fly was hard to get the ribbon for because it is a t6 so time is limited.

If you don't understand what's going on, that sounds way funnier than getting it

Every animal has an attack number and a health number. Attack does damage to health. When health drops to 0, the animal faints. You don't get to play during the fight; it happens automatically based on the stats the animals have. Every turn starts with the shop screen, where you buy and sell animals to make your team. If you have two animals of the same species, or if you buy an animal of a species that you already have, you an merge the two into one. This gives the one +1 health and +1 attack. Every animal starts off at level 1 with 0 XP, needs 2 XP to get to level 2, and another 3 XP to get to lever 3. When merging animals, the combined animal has the sum of the XP of the two original animals plus one. Each animal has one effect that has some condition and some result. Eg Turtle's effect is that when it faints it gives the animal behind it Melon Armor. If the condition is triggered in battle, the result is temporary and goes away when you enter the next turn's shop screen. If the condition is triggered in the shop screen, the result is permanent. Because many animals have effects that depend on their position, the complexity of the game comes from building a team where the effects and positions work with each other. Animals can also get an item. Eg Melon Armor protects the animal once from up to 20 damage.
