Reel 3.
Title reads: "TIME TO REMEMBER PART TWO - A TEENAGE FLAPPER".
01:14:04: High angle shot of a French seaside promenade - could be Deauville or Le Touquet. Two shots of holidaymakers sunbathing on the beach.
01:14:18: The Battle of the Flowers - revellers in boats decorated with flowers throw flowers at those standing on the river bank. Those on the bank throw them back.
01:14:30 Sequence showing glamorous women and cars - some powder their noses, another gets into her car with a large dog.
01:14:46 Two nice shots of women aboard a yacht. They untangle some ropes then hoist up a sail. A young girl tends the rudder.
01:15:01 A group of women dance together in the open air at a holiday camp.
01:15:07 Group of bright young things mess around together - horseplay including leapfrogs.
01:15:16 C/U of a woman brushing her long hair. C/U of dark haired girl brushing her teeth, she smiles at the camera.
01:15:23 Large group of young people sit together in a group having a picnic. C/U of girl being force-fed then C/U of a couple sitting together. The woman gives a man an egg to eat and he bites it - seems that it is a raw egg. (Original for this whole summer camp sequence is "Eve in Camp - In South Africa" EP 204.
01:15:41 A group of horsey girls sit in the open air with various animals around them. Joyce talks of her friend Daphne being a "crackerjack rider. They said she had the best seat in the country." Various shots of a woman riding a horse. She takes some jumps. C/U of two women standing behind a table laden with trophies.
01:16:10 L/S of three women walking towards the camera down a Cornish street. Joyce talks of Daphne going to stay with her Aunt Flora in Cornwall. Over shots of women standing in the open air painting at easels Joyce makes some jokes about how the aunt was Bohemian but Daphne was in no danger as she had "no artistic leanings whatsoever". Over a C/U of a mannish looking woman smoking a cigarette whilst she paints this seems to be hinting at lesbianism. M/S of a woman holding a baby and showing it a large painting - C/U of a painting (original of this sequence to be found in EP 010 The New Art).
01:16:36 Sequence showing women fishing from a pier. Good C/U of a rather large lady in a big hat taking a piece of seaweed off her hook.
01:16:50 Exterior of a very grand building. Interior - two women compare outfits. They are in a parlour room setting and wear day dresses and hats.
01:17:04 High angle shots of large crowds at the Eton vs Harrow cricket match. Various shots of guests at the match - all look very posh.
01:17:22 Wimbledon footage. Includes shot of the crowd looking left and right in unison as they watch the tennis.
01:17:34 Horse racing. Various shots of a race and of spectators including a young girl standing on a post looking through binoculars and a woman placing a bet with a bookie. M/S of woman petting the nose of a horse. Lord Lonsdale is seen, and Princess Mary. Prince of Wales is seen riding. A woman jockey walks towards the camera. Over a nice C/U of the jockey and her horse Joyce says: "Very courageous I suppose, but I don't quite like it do you?"
01:18:40 Unemployment march (?)
01:18:49 Joyce mentions the Bolsheviks. She says that they all wore Russian boots in those days. Various shots of glamorous women modelling coats and Russian boots, gaiters and woolly stockings. Good fashion sequence. Includes nice C/U of woman using a button hook to button up her gaiters. C/U of woman with an unusual fur trimmed parasol. M/S of two other ornate parasols.
Continued in Reel 4 - see separate records.

Her accent is terribly infectious. Now I know surely that we all spoke this way, and Americans in there own versions.

Those Brits weren't "flappers" in the US sense of the word. Iconoclasts yes, flappers no.

Flappers was originally coined by the aristocratic women of the 1910s to whom would wear dark maroon lip, vibrant eyeshadow, wealthy unique outfits, and jewelry. Arriving in their dark green sedan or something of the like.
