TIME TO SELL MY COMIC COLLECTION?? 

I lately see a lot of comics up for sale at swap meets for bargain prices. The people selling inherited them after their relative who owned the items passed away... and they have no interest in keeping the many boxes of books. Their goal is not to make a lot of money... but to get rid of "all of this stuff" they got stuck with because those boxes of books take up too much space. Then I see owners from the LCS come by and make an offer to buy the entire collection for (imo) "peanuts". I was told by the sellers they realize they could probably ask for more money on a number of those books... but they just want to sell everything asap and pack up, go home early. As long as they got rid of all the boxes... and get enough money to go out to dinner later on... they are happy. When I see that... I too think it is time to start thinking about "thinning out the herd" with my collection as well. That would be less of a burden on my family members later on after I'm gone.

I like videos such as this, which shows you the other side of being a comic book collector. Too many content creators are fixated on top 10 lists lol. Keep up the great work Matt! Can't wait to see this process unfold.

Beautiful 😍 collection. I have been buying / collecting since 1969. So i know the feeling.

That’s cool all the extra books you have. But if your trying to show off the box’s you wanna unload I’d recommend pulling what you want first so not to shrink the purge collection by 3 or 5 box’s. I’m a huge venom fan and carnage so I’d be interested for comics in that range and could possibly buy a bit too.

I sold 8 long boxes of mostly common stuff for 250 dollars to pay a DUI fine two years ago, I know I got ripped off, but I'm really glad about how much space I now have.

A few years ago I started to catalog my collection with the intent to downsize...then I started buying collections and going to shows and fleas....and here we are, well a project for retirement!

Time to start doing some local comic shows.....yup.....fleas, etc. Purging occasionally is always a good idea. Ultimately, It will make you a more discerning collector...

Love your video Matt. I’m dreading the day when I have to thin out my collection of comics. I’ve got close to 10,000 books after selling off my bronze and silver age collection in 1990 out of necessity and hated it to this very day.

I just sold off 80% of my books in the past year why? Because I had no attachment plus I can use those books that I let go in order to grab 1 big book that I would appreciate more. When you have so many boxes over 40 long boxes and don’t know what is in them it’s time to let it go.You seriously can’t enjoy the hobby when you have all that “stuff” it’s just clutter when I see boxes and boxes it creates stress also because they all have to have a place to store. That’s also another prob when I see other channels who hoard them like it’s there kidney.

You should probably have an inventory list or app.

I totally understand brother. I think I try to thin out the herd nearly every time I cherry pick collections. I’d definitely be interested to seeing what you decide to move.

That's a lot of books but I do understand you only have so much space it's a lot of work for sure keep up the amazing content bro

Great video! I did this a few years ago.. was a great feeling if you just don't have any attachment to some of them anymore. Let someone else enjoy them. I have really focused on quality over quantity. I just turned that sales money into funds for some keys I wanted. Good luck and I'll be watching for your online sales. I’m currently doing the same. I’m going to be a vendor for the first time at a local comic show next weekend. I’ve been pulling out stuff I am not attached to.

I had 5 short boxes and sold one and will sell all of them and just keep 2 short boxes of the books i care about. I am still trying to get a TMNT#1 and then I am done collecting cause a X-Men#1 and Batman#1 are way too expensive.

I always say if it’s in the box and u hav not touched it for a year sell it because your not using it 😮😮 sell it all 😮😮

Man I get it. I only have 9 short boxes and I got overwhelmed recently reorganizing them. Now I’m in the process of thinning them out.

I need to get rid of a buncha crap too. I was disciplined before but then started collecting all willy nilly back when I had space. Now I don't really have any room for floppies lol. Works out for me since I mainly collect omnibuses and such. My bookshelves are getting full but they're all stories I really like reading!

I totally agree these days you have to pick and choose on what to collect I was collecting statues and comics and toys and I made a choice to sell all of my toy collection and statues I kept some of my favorite statues but now I only collect comics and let me know on what you are selling I would be interested in buying some from you

Hmmm I know this is kinda random and out there, I saw your tattoo; were you in the NAVY back in the day? I was a quartermaster way back when on a ship (thats the quartermaster rating symbol) anyhoo, just thought i would ask. Also i collect guitars , no Gibson, but way into Gretsch and have a ESP Gibson Les Paul clone, (some say there better)debatable, but I digress, and few semi hollowbidies... ehhh and also i got that issue of sub mariner graded and yeh 7.5/ not on the wall but I always thought it was a pretty cool issue and unique book ,don't see it around too much. So em let me get to the point/ am I possibly your long lost evil twin brother? ha ha no i Kid, I kid, but we seem to have similar tastes, great vid -Cheers

Well... Yes and I'm trying to sell some stuff now but not great at it. Long story short I need to sell stuff do to I have too much and I sadly can't work anymore do to I'm on the Spectrum and when you get older things are easy and people get very nasty to you. So I need money

Sort of thinning out now, but keeping full runs of characters I love and getting rid of characters who don't really do anything for me. It's weird that you said you would grade keys to sell them even though you are not a graded book guy. You are cutting out a large potential buyer group by doing that. Yes, you can sell the graded book for more but even that depends on the book and the grade. Good luck, man!

For the slabs you wish you had raw, why not just crack them out and then have them raw? Probably easier than selling them just to turn around and buy raw copies. Just a thought. Good luck with minimizing your collection!
