I've been querying on and off for 10 years (lol 😅) and i have found that agents DEFINITELY have multiple versions of form rejections to indicate what they enjoyed/why they rejected/that your book stood out even if it wasn't for them. Congratulations!

Well that's good to know! Hopefully it means I'm on the right track 🤞

Ooo the querying journey!! It's funny, my first round was ALL by email because I didn't want to write a synopsis on query tracker 😂 Amazing you got great feedback in the writing contest and from the one agent!! Tbh I recently got a request from an agent I'd literally greyed out as closed/no reply because their website said more than two months was a rejection...evidently not 😂! the timelines on this seem to be so wild !!

haha the emails make me so nervous!! It feels like there's more chance of messing something up whereas on QT it's all organized in neat little boxes and you can't click Submit until everything is filled in. Congrats on the request!! Even if it's an old query, that's still gotta be a good confidence boost!

That’s so funny! Back when I was querying in the early 2010s that email method was pretty much the only one any agent requested. So many pages of material sent by email! 😂 The odd ones out were still requesting you send your query materials physically by mail. 😅 Good luck with this new batch! ❤️

Longest email I've ever sent 😂 Thank you! I'm excited to get replies and keep you all updated!

Yay for progress even if its just onto the next batch. Crossing fingers for you, Meredith! And I'd be the same at wanting to know what grammar caused the drop in points! 😅

I've read that some agents do have tiered rejections. Maybe if the comment with the same rejection you had was made recently it coooould be new, but it could be a tiered one! Legit with all those 'closed/no response' with that agent they may just be one of those 'no response means no' agents. I would def check their 'Query Reply Rate' percentage in the yellow box on their QueryTracker profile if they don't have mention response stuff on their website. I've heard a lot more agents are doing CNRs/'no response means no' now. Congrats, congrats on 78/80! That's absolutely brilliant! I'll be making my way into the trenches in July so I appreciate you sharing your journey with us. Can't wait for the next update!

That's so interesting! I guess it makes sense for the agents to have tiered replies--easy enough to have those ready to cut and paste. I'll definitely take it 😅 The CNRs are so annoying. I get agents are busy, but it can't take that much time to send a form rejection just so the writer knows you saw it and are not going to want anything further 😭 Good luck in July!!

@@MeredithPhillipsWrites Right?? Like I'd much, much rather the agents just tell me no straight up than silence (lmao the email could literally just say 'not for me' and nothing else lol. Just something lol). Thank you and I'm sending you all the well wishes in the world!

"I did not have a brownie in a mug for lunch." 😂 Thanks for another great video, Meredith! It is really neat that you received feedback from the judges of the writing contest. It would have hurt my heart to receive less than the best score in grammar, too. I'm not a professional editor but I do love grammar. If you ever want another set of eyes on that first page to review the grammar specifically, I would be happy to take a look at it. Absolutely no pressure whatsoever, but I am here to support you if ever you need it!

Those brownies in a mug are the perfect, well-balanced lunch food 😅 It was really a nice bonus to get that score sheet. And it was a great confidence booster for me before sending out this new batch of queries. And thank you so much for your offer! I had my first ten pages reviewed by an editor for a critique and fixed up some of the things she suggested, so I feel like it has to be pretty clean. At this point, unless there's some major issue I can't resist messing with, I'm trying to leave the manuscript alone. I think if I reread it or start poking at it again I won't be able to stop haha!

@@MeredithPhillipsWrites I think I may have to try that well-balanced lunch. 😄 That makes perfect sense that you want to leave your manuscript alone now, especially since you have begun querying!

I realize agents are busy but you can create a form rejection e-mail template that will autopopulate the rejectee's name.
@MeredithPhillipsWrites

Exactly! Replying to things you receive seems like the professional thing to do and it doesn't have to take all that long.
